Even when MON decided that playing NRC in any meaningful run of league games would mean that his CSI boxset collection would explode and take with it the Cloughy Quotes hardbacks volumes 1-8 he still sometimes played him in cup games as captain if I remember right. Even during that falling out a stubborn MON saw captain qualities in Nigel. I do too and hope he signs a new contract.

Aye.

He was still vice captain even when he was nowhere near the starting XI.

Dunne would have been the obvious choice this year if he wasn't so off the pace.

Actually what makes a player captain material? What specific tasks are involved in that (I have never played football organized, and some would say never played at all )

Preferably an Influence score of over 15.

Bravo sir.

Anyway, my guess is that Dunne didn't get it because he may be warming the bench for a little while.

You'd have needed your head examined to suggest that at the start of the campaign but I was actually a bit miffed that he got back in the side so easily after the Wolves game.

Certain players are so important to a side that the need to play even if only 70/80% fit such is their influence.

As we've seen with Dunne this year, if he isn't 100% with it he's really no good to anyone. He's had fitness issues with Citeh in the past. At the time they couldn't rotate. We can.

At his best, there's no one better, but if there's one postion where you can't afford to be inconsistent then it's centre-half.

Or maybe keeper. So two then. But you get the point.

Happy for him.  Let's see if he can further grow into the role.

Good decision by Mr Houllier and Nigel deserves his role as captain... he looks like a leader and I'm sure everyone's pleased he's been given a second chance by Houllier unlike O'Neill who never bothered to play him.

Great choice and good to see houllier saying nige has been offered a new deal and his agent is in talks with the club , as has brad friedal too!Doesn't look good for Carew though- no mention of him being offered a deal.

When he gets the players in a  team huddle before the Rags game, you'll be loving it and going mental, Chris. Come on, admit it.
