Quote
He confirmed his departure from Villa was the result of a falling-out with owner Randy Lerner: “I think we decided we weren’t going in the same direction, I’m not sure what direction that was. Probably the less said, the better.

Most illuminating.

Re-hashing old conversations with Clough.

Terrific, just terrific.

Thing was Clough was an innovator, a pioneer who blazed his own trail.

He didn't need to constantly refer to an older manager to bask in some kind of reflected  glory.

We get one sentence. They do however manage to reveal that he used to be managed by Brian Clough. Really, never knew that! Thanks Mirror. What a worthwhile excercise that was.

Can't wait for this upcoming weeks' Mirror interviews, what new exclusives will they reveal?...

Monday: Alex Ferguson is actually Scottish!
Tuesday: Arsene Wenger quite likes Arsenal!!
Wednesday: Harry Redknapp is a complete and utter...

you get the idea.

I have said it before as have many others on this sight but he will never be forgiven for leaving our club 5 days before the start of the season and he and the bin dippers deserve each other

Why didn't they just go with "O'Neill begins the process of whoring himself to Liverpool (again)"

it's a space filler of an article. There's literally nothing there that hasn't been written about or discussed to death a thousand times over. He gets compared to Clough, asked about Clough, and answers questions about Clough. Something that will happen forever. Even his quote about us is meaningles because Randy said the same. We didn't learn anything new here.

There used to be an expression in popular use to describe journalism of this standard. It was called "Penny-a-line writing". In other words, pack out what little story you may or may not have with as much irrelevant garbage as you can think of until you've attained the requisite number of words that your editor wants. Tripe.

Well that was worth waiting for, only the Mirror could take a long waited for opportunity like this and turn it into, well, nothing.

Tripe.

"Probably the less said, the better." = "Of course I would like to tell you a version of events that paint me in the best possible light, but Mr Lerner has stitched me up with a water-tight gagging order."

Agreed topdeck, I think it's unlikely we will ever get the exact story as I'm sure o neill will have had to sign a confidentiality agreement on his departure- but whatever the reasons there is no excuse for leaving the club in the shit 5 days before the season started.

Replace spend with waste.
