If he has any ambition he needs to play CL I'm afraid in which case we shouldn't blame him. He's probably waiting to see if he's wasting his time here.

They always seem to get tapped up when they have been away with England..

How utterly depressing .Although not entirely surprised, the contract negotiations has been dragging on and on I guessed that this would be the outcome especially having spent some time with those nob heads at the England camp

I think he want to see if Gerard will lead Villa to magic glorious era and see new players. Then sign a contract.

Yeah, you can imagine milner and Fat arse saying " Fook Villa Ash, you can double your money at City "     or Crouch saying " Harry wanted me to have a word "

The England thing isn't just about whispers from 'Crouchy' et al.  It also gives an agent more to work with when negotiating wages - a starter for England is worth more than a fringe player.  Strike while the iron is hot so to speak.  Maybe this is what has happened since Young was interviewed last month when he seemed to be talking about how he was ready to sign?

Well, I'm not all that gloomy about this, but that's as I do NOT see it as a sign of him leaving.

We have a new manager and nobody really knows how things will go under him.  It also remains to be seen what Randy's further spending plans are after last summer's issues.

So maybe all we're seeing is a player waiting to see exactly what he'd be signing up for were he to put pen to paper?  Sensible of him, IMO.

Although two weeks ago he was saying he wanted to stay for life.

Let him go. Ash of two years ago would be a big loss. Ash now is not.

I'm just not arsed either way anymore.

Maybe its the long drawn out Barry and Milner sagas that have worn us all down..

Maybe its my increasing apathy towards modern football and the modern footballer...

Maybe I've gone off AY lately anyway (good player that he is), with all his diving and arrogant posturing...

Whatever it is, I've surprised myself by how little I care about this.

I think he's secretly had his head turned by somebody at Spurs.

These meet ups with the England squad don't help, they'll have all been advising him to leave Villa.

Villa are bigger than him or any manager, we will endure.

No suprise really,he's seen our best two players depart in the last year or so.

You never know,he may suprise us and resign in the summer if we improve the squad,it just show's how big the gap is between us and the players on how we view the club we love, and the company who pay their wages.
