Houllier must be doing something right, when the best anyone can do on here is pick a fight over whether Beye should play right back instead of Cuellar.
I'm more concerned as to who will fill the mid field places and whether we have an effective, read, any striker able to score goals.

The midfield and strikers pick themselves at the moment, due to the lack of depth in the squad, defence is the one area where we've got a far bit of cover.

I don't mind beye, he's decent enough on the whole. Although you do get the impression that at least once a game he's going to end up on his arse in the box with a winger bearing down on goal.

Id rather have salifou at right back than Beye.

Yes, I can believe that.

Do they?

We'll see.

There's not much between Beye and Lichaj in my opinion, other than Lichaj has a pretty long throw and he's young. I'd go with Lichaj - give him his chance in the league after his fairly encouraging performances in friendlies and cup games.

What did he do against Chelsea that offended you?  Or is it that you form an opinion of a player and don't give them any further chances?

did you think he played well? i didnt.

I'd use the opportunity to give Lichaj an extended run, see what he's made of. But I wouldn't be surprised to see GH go with Lichaj for the Burnley game, then Beye for the two in the league. I think Beye was fine against Chelsea.

At least we've got options to cover RB. It's a totally different story at LB. That still worries me.

I was surprised when Beye played against CHelsea as I thought Lichaj had done well and Habib hasn't featured under Gezza.  I think the kids got promise so would want him to get a game or two while Young is out, but then Beye's got the shirt right now and did nothing to warrant losing it against Chelsea.

Beye was a bit shaky for me against Chelsea but I've not really seen enough of Lichaj to judge, so maybe still Beye on Sat then Lichaj on Wednesday and see who is best for Blues.  Carlos is a centre half, may as well put Ash in goal as Carlos at right back.  This is the top of the professional game and full back, centre half etc are specialist positions these days.

if we need a left back we can use one of right back in left back or move Downing to left back I think he can play there. Providing it is not a tough and powerful winger he is facing.

I wouldn't want Downing anywhere near LB myself.  And the switching of a RB would only work if it was Young.

Yes and yes. If Young's out, our LB option if Warnock's unavailable would probably be to use Lowry there. Or Clark, who is at left footed, comfortable on the ball and mobile.
