Who scored? Too tight-fisted to subscribe to highlights.

Match report: Villa Res 2-1 Blackburn Res
Collins Jr and Delfouneso on target in second string victory.
14th Oct 2010

By Dan Harrison

Strike duo James Collins Jr and Nathan Delfouneso fired Villa to an impressive comeback to see off Blackburn Rovers at Bodymoor Heath.

The second string trailed to a first-half Jason Roberts penalty as the Lancashire outfit took the lead against the run of play.

But Collins Jr found the net for the third time this season with a spot kick of his own while Delfouneso's neat finish ensured a deserved victory for Kevin MacDonald's men.

In fairness, the claret and blues could have won by a greater scoreline given the nature of their display.

With just two minutes on the clock, Delfouneso headed Daniel Johnson's free-kick against the bar.

This set the tone for an onslaught of Villa pressure, with Josh Barton and Collins Jr also going close.

Barton fired wide from an angle after receiving Jonathan Hogg's through ball and Collins Jr shot straight at Mark Bunn with a first time effort.

The Blackburn goalkeeper made a string of superb saves throughout the afternoon - the best of the bunch coming midway through the first period to deny Samir Carruthers.

The talented winger's 25-yard attempt swerved and dipped towards the far corner but Bunn kept his eye on it to make a fine one-handed stop.

And, despite being restricted by Villa's defence, Blackburn were able to take the lead when Collins Jr was adjudged to have handled in the box.

Roberts stepped up and powered his 28th minute penalty past Elliot Parish.

But MacDonald's team emerged from the break unfazed by the one goal deficit.

Academy skipper Daniel Johnson tested Bunn with a low drive but again the Blackburn keeper was equal to it.

The penalty count and the scoreline were levelled up on 54 minutes.

A fine move involving Hogg, Collins Jr and Johnson down the left resulted in Johnson's cross clipping the hand of Andy Parry.

The referee pointed to the spot and Collins despatched the penalty past Bunn.

Villa continued to pile the pressure on Rovers. Carruthers whipped in a teasing low free-kick to the near post and Delfouneso supplied the deftest of touches to steer it past Bunn to put the hosts ahead on 63 minutes.

The England under-21s striker was denied a second goal by Bunn, who parried away a powerful left-foot drive.

Blackburn had a chance to level the scores late on when Grant Hanley failed to convert a free header but Villa took a deserved three points from the clash.

I'm sure it's already been discussed and I've missed it, but why are the reserves playing at Bodymoor?

Blackburn must hate the sight of us. What should we play them at next?

Well done to the new generation. I have high hopes for Ellis Deeney (brother of Watford and former Walsall striker Troy). Both Chelmsley lads. Carruthers and Berry have impressed me when I've seen them.

I remember playing against Troy a few years ago on Bluebell park (I think that's what it's called, the one on the right if you come from the top of Coleshill). Good player, well a lot better than us! He moved to Watford in the summer didn't he?

Yes, just prior to the start of the season. He had a good game against us in our friendly v Walsall just before he moved. Had a chat with him afterwards, seems like a nice kid. He wanted to go out with my daughter years ago, but sadly she seems to prefer layabouts and criminals.

Fair write up of game by Dan Harrison.............

I believe the FA are responsible for matches being played at such
ridiculous times and at training grounds  -

The majority of people at BH yesterday were guys from other clubs,
I had decent chat to Karen (name removed) Brady's husband - by all
accounts he has taken James Collins(junior) on loan to Burton Albion

Several Academy lads in starting line up and all five subs -

Centre back Derrick Williams continues to impress in every match I've
watched him-

Gary Gardner is on target for a return to action in 4-6 weeks which is
great news -
