GH Vs. DOL
« on: September 28, 2010, 11:48:05 AM »
Has David O'Leary challenged Gerard Houllier to try and beat his record of mentioning their previous Premier League team in interviews when managing Aston Villa?

I lost count the amount of times DOL felt the need to mention Leeds when he should've been speaking about Villa and now, from the interviews thus far, Houllier is going down the same path with Liverpool.

"It was practically a Liverpool goal..." was the latest reference.

I know it's the winning that matters, and from that point of view we can have no complaints, but I really hope he stops with the references to Liverpool in his interviews. We don't need to hear it, he's manager of Villa, not Liverpool.

This was covered in the post match thread. The reporter mentioned that Warnock and Heskey played for Houllier at Liverpool so he made a light hearted comment. The problem is the reporters will not stop mentioning it. If they stopped I'm sure Houllier would as well.

We could've had Curbishley banging on about Charlton. Get over it.

And my wife is still friends with her last ex-boyfriend, twelve years after we got married. Nothing a can of petrol and a box of matches won't fix

Like with DOL, it'll only be an issue if we're not winning!

He didn't need to, we had plenty to remind us.

It's only natural that journos use Liverpool as a Ged reference point. He was last managing here six years ago for that club. They haven't had anything to go on inbetween since your average English fan couldn't give a cack about Lyon. The Red Scouse references will stop in a few weeks.

Mentioning Leeds was the least of DOL's crimes in my eyes.

Holding the club and it's supporters in utter contempt throughout his reign was, and still is, unforgiveable. To compare the two is a huge insult to Houllier, who, even at this early stage comes across as respectfull and dignified.

He's certainly no DOL.

So we don't wont him to make the League cup his first trophy with us as he might have to compare the similaraties to 10 years ago with the team too offensive to keep mentioning?

Good luck Burnley then!!!

David O'Leary appeared to deliberately set out to annoy Villa fans at every opportunity.  Ged's relevant reference was hardly in the same league.  Let it go.
