Reserves v Sunderland tonight
« on: September 27, 2010, 10:44:20 PM »
The reserves drew 1-1 with Sunderland at Villa Park tonight.  We fielded a number of our Academy league players and were without last seasons regulars like Bannan, Albrighton, Delfouneso and Clarke.
Durrell Berry, on as a first minute substitute for the injured Baker, scored our goal.

We played well in the first half but not so well in the second half.

Did Berry captain the youths in the game against Chelsea last year, full back?

Clearly based o the results our reserve team is excellently run but wouldn't it help the likes of Beye and Sidwell if they played occasionally.

Sidwell looks so low on confidence right now that he could do with some games to find form.  Arguably Delf needs some game time to find the net again.

At least we know Osbourne and Salifou are still alive and kicking. Though not too impressive at the kicking bit.

I thought Salifou and Osbourne were both fairly average in midfield and need moving on as they are nowhere near the first team.

Sidwell and Beye do need games to get up to speed and I have never understood why Guzan never plays for the reserves and then is expected to come into the first team without a competitive game for months and be in top form.

Berry came on and played right back with Lichaj switching to left back after Baker got injured (hamstring I think)

This was my daughters first game at Villa Park at the grand old age of 2.

She loved every second, and it was one my proudest moments.

Not the best of matches I've seen in recent years with KMac in charge-

The 4-3-3 system didn't click and we didn't create many chances for the
front runners -

I genuinely feel sorry for Arsenio - the lad is a 'centre back' and unless I'm
missing something will never be a striker

Durrel Berry was probably the pick of the bunch last night - well taken goal

Maybe I'm being unfair, but highlight last night was a group of boistrous
schoolboys being ejected by stewards in the second half !!

The lads can play alot better than they showed last night -

Halfhuid was a real handful last season when used as a striker. Largely because he's a big unit.
He's a real utility player. But I agree, I'm not sure what he is but he wont be anything more than an auxillery as a striker.
This reserve team is missing a number of players for one reason or another. Weimann, Delfouneso, Bannan, Gardner, Clark. That's a lot of quality at that level.

I wish Osbourne would realise how good he could and should be. We could really do with that player right now.

I read the goalscorer as Duracel Battery.

Gordon's o.k, bit injury prone though.
