For anyone who's bothered, Villa are in constant liason with the police about this as they are very aware of the problem.

The police can 'manage the traffic' but not entirely on the club's say so - and the police have been re-organised recently and set priorities due to lower resources.

Thus, Aston Hall Road after a Villa game is not a priority.

In summary , the problem is that the police are under resourced and the flow of traffic away from the ground after matches is not a high priority for them.

Lee was frusrated but had his hands tied and the club's hands are tied.

all it takes is a line of cones outside the pub, and a steward from the club standing there. hardly a squadron of thousands...

I would imagine Aston Hall Road is a bit too far away from the ground for stewards to be used.

Plus, Villa don't have the legal authority to block a road off, so rely on the police to decide whether it's of enough importance in the scheme of things.

Lee is concerned that not enough Villa fans had been 'vocal' about this and would be voting with their feet as opposed to contacting the club.

This is on the basis that the club's largest carpark is reliant on the traffic flow system that we're discussing here.

It involves parking on the Expressway, leaving your hazard lights on, putting out the warning triangle and then................... abseiling !!

Dont get me bloody started on this. After every game now Im left sitting in a car in utter bloody chaos because theres no traffic policing whatsoever. Why isnt there any policing ? Because of the bloody cut backs ! Why are there cut backs ? Because of a bunch of irresponsible greedy scumbags who decided to operate banks and the City of bloody London like bloody casinos ! And what did politicians of any persuasion do to stop them ? Sweet FA !
So stuff the chinless wonder in charge right now who says hes a Villa fan but never comes near the place. Stuff the fat ugly Raith Rovers fan who was in charge before him. And stuff the smarmy smiling twat before him who lied about watching Newcastle and told even bigger lies to take us into a bloody war in Iraq !
And why do they all let the bankers get away with it ? Because of that cowbag back in the 80s who changed Britain forever and for the worse, her only good point being she didnt lie about being interested in football like the three jokers mentioned above.
Wasting an extra half hour of your life after the game because of the policing cuts is just one small example of all the serious crap we are  going to be hit with because of the cut backs. I have a good mind to go and watch my football at Walsall while we plan the revolution, complete and utter garbage that will probabaly lead to their relegation this season but no real traffic jams after. Power to the People !!

On a slightly related note, and sorry if this has been mentioned before, does anyone know if anything can be done about the residents around VP who block the street in front of their houses with crates, wood, etc.?  Clearly illegal, but nothing ever seems to happen about it.  I'd be annoyed as well if I lived near a football ground, but it's a public road and anyone has a right to park there.  It seems especially common in the streets of Trinity Road.

To be fair John, I would do the same if I was a resident. Legal or not.

Well, bearing in mind how long the stadiums been there I could question if they didn't spot the 40,000+ all seater when they bought the house?

I just find it odd that with all the police around on match day, this flagrant breaking of the law is allowed to continue.

I'm not sure it's really illegal to put a crate outside your house is it? As long as it's not actually blocking the road so cars can't drive down it.
There's also probably nothing to stop you moving said crate and parking there if you like, I wouldn't bet on you still having four fully inflated tyres when you get back or even the correct amount of unbroken windows, which is illegal of course but you try to prove who did it!

That's the thing - trying to move these objects would result in a crime being committed against my property.  Basically it's a thinly disguised threat of criminality.

And I'm sure there must be some law against blocking public parking spaces?

Because I was bored I've done some research, and have found that the streets around VP are covered by a matchday resident parking scheme, so you can't park there anyway!

Wow!!! So pretty much anyone who parks in the streets around VP could be liable to receive a £60 fine?!

I generally always try to park in a car park but sometimes it just isnt possible. Imagine how much income the council would generate if this was actually enforced at a number of games?! I can imagine this being quite a deterrent for a lot of ppl planning to attend and I dont think there is sufficient parking available if the streets were not utilised.

Is there a map with actual match day car parks available?

Some streets do and have signs up to that effect - mainly the ones directly off Witton Lane.  Where I park doesn't have such restrictions.
