OWEN: Interesting Villa's new manager

By David Harrison, 11/09/2010

MICHAEL OWEN is in line to become Gerard Houllier's first signing for Aston Villa.

The new Villa boss is set to make a swoop for the former England striker during the January transfer window either on loan or for a nominal fee.

Houllier watched Owen play in Jamie Carragher's testimonial game at Anfield last Saturday and was impressed by his form and fitness.

He will be keen to reunite his relatonship with the striker which flourished so successfully at Liverpool that Owen was named European Player of the Year in 2001 after helping fire the club to a treble of trophy successes.

Owen's contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the season and he remains a bit-part player at Old Trafford.

He might welcome to chance to reignite and extend his career by another two years at Villa under Houllier.

And it would be the sort of budget signing which will appeal to owner Randy Lerner whose decision to tighten the purse-strings led to the resignation of Martin O'Neill

I've stickied this (and renamed it) as it will only be a matter of time before we are linked with everyone who Houllier ever signed.

I would bet money that we see our first link to Djibril Cissé within two weeks.

Will Houlier actually have taken charge by then?

I wanted Owen when he went to Manchester United.

I now admit I was very, very wrong.

It's only September mind!

Providing it's not:

*Florent Sinama Pongolle
*Anthony Le Tallec
*Bruno Cheyrou
*Titi Camara
*Erik Meijer
*Rigobert Song
*Sean Dundee
*Djimi Traore
*Peggy Arphixad
*Gregory Vignal
*Igor Biscan
* El Hadj Diouf
*Salif Diao

I can probably live with it.

To be honest, if we got Owen cheap of course I'd take him.

The reason we know it's bullshit is because Owen is not on high wages at united, wasn't it around 40k a week?

M.O!!? a big risk of having a player on £40k+ per week (very conservative fig)spending most of the time on the treatment table with one of those niggling hamstrings injuries.

This is just lazy journalism.

Just like when MON joined we were linked with anyone that played with him at Leicester or Celtic.

Like Petrov, Maloney, Sutton, Heskey...

Oh...
