Harewood interview
« on: September 11, 2010, 11:23:03 AM »
Not so much an exclusive as not too many people care what he says. He touches on Villa a bit,and says what alot of us believed to be true.

Another player not even given a chance by Martin.

Crap as Marlon was he always tried. And 1 prem start in 3 seasons was not a fair crack by any stretch. Lets be honest there were times when he could have offered something to the team ahead of Heskey certainly, and at some points even Carew.

Again though, it was down to Martins selection policy. But it could be argued that playing our best players all the time got us as far as we did.

Great story about signing for Blackpool but the best line has to be about his new business; "And it's gone a bit better than we expected because we've had to get VAT registered." What is it in the UK, 20k before you have to register?

Good luck to him.

Another piece of evidence to support the theory many of us have been developing. Must have been a terrible place to work if you were not in the manager's plans.

At least he a decent idea for his future business. Can't blame him if he is not enjoying football.

Seems like a reasonably intelligent sort of guy as well, so to Have MON's total disregard towards him must have been infuriating in the extreme.

Yep just adds to the ludicrous approach to squad harmony, M'ON took.

Wow, his business has had to register for VAT! Ie it's made about two weeks of his Aston villa wages!

There were a few fringe players that I wished that MON had given more time on the pitch to. Marlon wasn't one of them.

I hope things turn out better for him up there.

Well, he certainly played like a cricketer when he was here, but i always liked the guy for his effort and down to earth manner.

Oh dear what a fuckin' shame. I have no sympathy whatsoever if sidelined players were unhappy, it's tough. Yes, MON played favourites, but overall it worked given the year on year progress. Harewood, for all his effort was only ever a squad player and while the argument is valid that MON didn't utilise his squad to it's full extent I'm fed up of hearing about how unfair his treatment was to various players. A manager stands or falls on his team selection, it is his call and his call only and if the team prosper then marginalised players can hardly claim to deserve a place in the side.

The discontent within the squad under MON appears to revolve around those who failed to secure a first team place and although the atmosphere under Houllier will certainly be lighter and less intense, I'm sure those who aren't picked will once again be pissed off.

And no further, which I think is the point.

It sounds like MON wasn't much for "team chemistry".  Having guys on the bench who never play and perceive that they are "not getting a fair shake" can be poisonous for a so called "team".
