VILLA OLD STARS HELP CROWN-ING GLORY FOR ACORNS EVENT

The Aston Villa Old Stars are looking to Crown off another great month of charity football matches – when they take on Chasetown firm Crown Cutting’s ‘All Stars this Sunday (September 12th 2pm). The match, which will be held at Chasetown FC, will be the showpiece of a Family Fun Day designed to raise thousands of pounds for the Acorns Children’s Charity. The ‘Crown All Stars’ is a team of fundraising football fans – many of whom purchased their squad place in a pre-match fund-raising auction.

They will now see their dreams come true when they face a team of legendary household footballing names, with the Aston Villa Old Stars regularly fielding the likes of Steve Staunton, Gordon Cowans, Tony Morley, Colin Gibson, Ken McNaught and Tony Daley.

Along with the match (kick off 2pm), Crown Cutting will also be organising activities such as a bouncy castle, jousting, BBQ and disco – with admission priced at £2 for adults, £1 concessions and free of charge for under three year olds.

Aston Villa Former Player’s Association, the organisation behind the Old Stars, is delighted to support the event and General Secretary Karl Court is urging people to support the day. He said: “Steve Jones and Crown Cutting have put a huge amount of effort into organising the day at Chasetown FC and it is set to be another fantastic fundraising occasion – I cannot think of a better charity to support than Acorns. Days like this offer people a very rare opportunity to support a worthy cause whilst taking the chance to get up close to some of football’s most famous faces from the past.”

Nice day out. Weather was good and met up with deej. Match finished 5-5 (Morley got 4 of ours - he's 56 now and still oozes class) and we won the resultant penalty shoot-out. Managed to meet and have my photograph taken with Gordon Cowans, Tony Morley, Chris Nichol, Colin Gibson, Pat Heard, Steve Staunton, Ken McNaught and Bryan Small. One very happy Villa fan.
