I dont think K Mac will stay very long now. I dont think he should have been alowed to apply, cos it was just a token gesture from Randy. Now he is in the position we all know of from work, where we have applied for a job that we think we can do and the bosses have bought in someone from outside. You then think u have to move to get on.

With. An incoming manager should have the right to choose his assistant manager.

Re the Telegraph: surely GH as manager, with PT assistant and KMac first team coach wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility? A three-strong management/coaching team?

If we are getting our assistant manager from Sky, Jeff Stelling knows his football. Or how about bringing in one of the fit girls from Sky sports news?

Made me smile, what a grand idea!

I find it strange that Houlier would want the job with strings attached.

As others have said I think it is vital that whoever the manager is gets to chose whoever he wants in in his coaching team.

He asked Thompson that very question, he answered:

I've got no strings
To hold me down
To make me fret, or make me frown
I had strings
But now I'm free
There are no strings on me

I voted 'with'.  Not because I like Pinnochio, but because I think whoever gets the job has to pick their own staff.

Kev was the board's number one choice for the job, until results went against him. If we'd not been thumped by Newcastle, and even then if we'd got past Rapid, he'd be manager now.

If he was their first choice and results proved him not good enough, then does that not raise doubts over their judgement?

I thank him *

KM would have been the wrong appointment. Regardless of how his results in charge went, they were never really going to form a decent "sample" from which to judge if he was good enough to do the job.

If we were going to appoint him after three league games, then ideally he'd have shown enough in his previous career to get the job before those three league games.

I don't think he did - being a good coach is one thing, managing a club the size of Aston Villa in modern football is something else - and to appoint him would have been a mistake.

* no, before anyone dives in, I'm not being entirely serious in being glad a Villa player missed a penalty.

Why didn't Barry take the penalty?
