The way I look at it is it's for a couple of years at most. In that time he might set up a scouting system that will unearth the next Vierra, Henry and Anelka. And if it's going wrong a few months down the line we've got until next August to throw money at getting a new manager.

Because we could now loose KM if he has to go back to the reserves.

so what? He's a very good coach, but he has to happy with the new set up. If he's not, the manager shouldn't have to make allowance for him. It will just be a unneccessary distraction if KM cannot find peace with the choice of manager. Ideally he'll stay, but in the grand scheme of things, he's expendable.

I think that's right. Which is why it's difficult to be either too enthusiastic or too despondent, should Houllier get it.

I detest Phil Thompson.

However, if Gerard Houllier wants him and he's to be our new manager then he should have him. I suppose. The twat.

Gerald need an truthworthy alliance to help to keep an eye on things which he can't do everything himself. As long we have MacDonald and another former villa player added to coaching staff to work with GH and PT.

Phil Thompson at Villa?  People have made some compelling arguments here about his success as a player, his winning attitude, mentality etc.  Despite all this, though, I just don't want him at our club.  It strikes me that he is a one club man.  I can't see him totally buying into Villa and believing that we can best his beloved Liverpool or Man Utd.  I can imagine him in the dressing room giving off the vibe that if we scrape a draw against "such clubs" it would be a good result for Villa.

He's just not the man for me.

Reasonably happy with Houllier, but i really am struggling with Phil Thompson.  He's so devoted to Liverpool as a club, i just can't see that his heart would really be in it.  That's without taking in to consideration my misgivings about the bloke as a person.  I'd rather not have him, but i'd rather have an experienced manager and a scouser for an assistant than an inexperienced bloke who if we're honest led us to lose 6-0 to newcastle (a defeat made all the worse as my mate and fifa buddy just happens to be a newcastle fan).

I'd be happy with whoever Houllier wants. I would prefer McDonald as he deserves a chance and I think he would make a good first team coach. He also knows all of the young players.

Ultimately, whoever the board and Houllier decide on is fine by me. Heven't voted because the options don't cover what I feel.

The Objection to Thompson seems to be on the basis of how irritating he is on Sky Sports, I can't see what bearing that has on his coaching ability.

If Houllier wants him, that's up to him, he's the main man.

I think this just about sums up my view, rather eloquently and succinctly too I might add...

If we are getting our assistant manager from Sky, Jeff Stelling knows his football. Or how about bringing in one of the fit girls from Sky sports news?
