« on: September 05, 2010, 06:31:08 PM »
Mat Kendrick from the Mail has told us that there will be an interview with Gerard Houllier appearing on www.francefootball.fr this evening. It's not believed to be greatly revealing but it does touch on the Villa job.

French to English Google translation :- Information France Football: Houllier confirms its contact with Aston Villa. Contacted by telephone on Sunday afternoon by FF Gerard Houllier has confirmed that the English club Aston Villa had contacted well in the prospect of a return to the Premier League. "This club has taken this initiative," he said, without wanting to say more about the nature of the proposal by Birmingham club. Contrary to what the British press, however, is well a manager is offered to them and not a role of "director of football. An agreement could be reached before the end of the week will begin. Two other technicians are vying for the job: the Dutchman Ronald Koeman and the Englishman Alan Curbishley, former coach of Charlton and West Ham.

Aston Villa, currently fourth in the standings after three days (two wins, one defeat) is under contract without a coach since the departure of Martin O'Neill's surprise, Aug. 9. Scotland's Kevin McDonald - very popular with players - has been acting since. The club is aware that the French, who were 63 years Friday, had suffered a serious heart attack in October 2001.
England has not forgotten

Deeply affected by the harsh criticism he was subject in France since World catastrophic Blues, Gerard Houllier then regain an England recall that he led Liverpool to five trophies in 2000-01, and a second place Championship next season, what is more to the enemies of Manchester United. Back at Anfield on Saturday at the occasion of the jubilee match Jamie Carragher, sitting on the bench alongside his friend Roy Hodgson, the former Liverpool manager will appreciate the warm welcome he has reserved for the public 'Anfield. Judging by the comments of Villa fans, he would not least in Birmingham. - Correspondence Philippe Auclair

So its basically saying that he has been contacted for the position of manager, the decision has not been made yet, should be after the weekend and Koeman and Curbs are still in the frame.

The reports today are quite clear that it is Houllier they are after and not Koeman, or Curbishley.

Thank God.

Looks like google translations are about as good as their directions - I'm no european master of history but I would put money on it that France as a nation is more than 63 years old.

Houllier confirms
Houllier has confirmed his contact with Aston Villa. Whilst joining us by telephone this Sunday afternoon by France Football Gerard Houllier confirmed to us that the English club did contact him in the possible return to the Premier League. "It was the club which took the initiative", he said without saying more on the nature of the proposition of the Birmingham club. Contrary to what the English papers are saying, it is the post of manager that they are proposing, and not the "Director of Football" role. An agreement could be reached before the end of this week.

Two other managers are in the running for the post- The Dutch Ronald Koeman and the English Alan Curbishley, ex-manager of Charlton and West Ham.

Aston Villa, 4th at the moment in the table after three games (two wins, one defeat) is without a under-contract manager after the surprise departure of Martin O'Neill on the 9th of August, Scottish Kevin MacDonald- vewry much appreciated by the players- has been interim coach since. The club haven't forgotten that the Frenchman, recently turned 63 on Friday, suffered a serious heart condition in October 2001. (He uderwent open heart surgery on the night Liverpool played Leeds Utd)

England hasn't forgotten him

Affected deeply by strong criticism targeted at him since the catastrophic World Cup by Les Bleus (1994 I think) Houllier would come back to the country which remembered that he led Liverpool to five trophies in 2000/01, and a second place finish in the Premier League the following season, which saw them become arch-enemies of Manchester United. Coming back to Anfield this Saturday on the night of Jamie Carragher's testimonial, sat on the dugout next to his friend, Roy Hodgson, the ex-manager of Liverpool would appreciate the warm welcome which the Anfield faithful have saved for him. Judging by the comments of the supporters of the Villa, he wouldn't have any less in Birmingham.

And to think I failed my French GCSE....

One comment on that website says he won't be missed by anyone, the other begging him to come back to Lyon. Don't know what to make of that.

Submitted by Marie on September 5, 2010 – 8:27 pmOne Comment
Former Liverpool coach Gerard Houllier, will be offered to train Aston Villa. Within 48 hours, he is expected to give an answer.

Initially, Houllier will be offered as director of football. However, Villa was eventually changed and offered a coach position. He will replace temporarily coach Kevin MacDonald.

Currently, Houllier appointed director of engineering for the French soccer federation. He signed favorites list to deal with Villa, after the club’s coach Martin O’Neill had left.

Houllier was too familiar with the Premier League. He began to train at Liverpool in 2001. He ever brings UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup.

Saturday (09/04/2010), he was in Liverpool to watch the testimonial match Jammie Carragher. This attendance was also directly linked with plans to train Villa.
