So what's to look forward to now this season?
« on: August 28, 2010, 08:13:27 PM »
Ok Westham were given the coup-de-gras fairly comfortably, but with no sight/sound of a new manager on the horizon soon, (or at least before the transfer window slams shut) meaning no new signings at least till january,  humiliation at NC (did that really happen!!), and a rapid euro exit to Vienna (say no more), what's there for an annoyed/fed-up fan to feel good about?

Any answers attached to a razor blade pls  >:(

WINNING a cup. I have no interest in another final if we don't win it.

What's there to look forward to?

Hopefully a new manager who will sort the team out.  Personally I think we've got a pretty good squad that could achieve things given the right organization.  In January the new manager will hopefully be able to add some quality that will further improve things.  Steven Ireland's addition looks promising and seeing how he progresses will be very interesting.  Then there's the kids - Albrighton and Clark will look more the part as time goes by, and there's the Fonz, Delph and maybe even Gary Gardner, once they come back from injury.

How's that?

New manager, new start?

Ship the dead wood out.

Carew, NRC and Friedel's contracts are expiring.

We should go into next Summer with a new manager who's got a shed load of money to spend and having had the majority of the season to asssess his squad. 4 or 5 spaces in the starting team free, and Clark, Delph, Albrighton, Weimann and Delfouneso ready to have full seasons.

Nike deal runs out soon as well doesn't it?

Can't moan it won't be different.

Good lord. Let's just pack our bags and give up shall we? What an astonishly melodramatic thread. You know, some people should thank their lucky stars they aren't fans of Rochdale, Torquay, Rotherham or Walsall etc. They'd be seeking counselling every season, or threatening to jump of bridges. Being a Villa fan means you are amongst the luckiest fans in the world supporting one of the best teams in the world. Count yourselves very lucky. Yes, the last week and a bit have been poor, but it sure ain't the end of the world.

Well, no one can disagree that it hasnt been a dramatic start to the season, so cue the melodramatics.
Walsall, Rochdale, Rotherham etc.  Yeah, im sure they'd like to be in a situation, or as fortunate to lose to NU & RV in a week, but what are things coming to when comfort is taken from looking down at 3rd tier teams rather than looking upwards.

See that's the problem. I'm not looking for comfort at all. What I am saying is that it could be a lot worse than being a Villa fan. I could have just as easily used West Ham or West Brom as examples. It makes no difference. Bottom line is this is a hiccup in our progress. That's all. We win tomorrow and we are sitting 4th in the PL after three games. Are things really that bad? Even if we don't win, it's only 4 games into the season. It's crazy to get carried away.

As much as I am worried about the last two results (and performances), the lack of any signings and the tumbleweed blowing through the manager's office, let's get a grip here.

We've played two league matches, one of which we won. To listen to the melodrama, you'd think it was Christmas and we were ten points adrift.

if the powers that be don't appoint the right man, and soon, then yes, it could theoretically start to drift badly, very badly even, but that's a long way down the line.

A new manager. He might be a very good one and perhaps we might have a good season.

Youngsters of course.

We've had one bad game in the league... Admittedly an utterly a diabolical one but just one. We could do much better over the course of the season. It as far too soon to write this season off.

A top six finish and some entertaining football, an exciting January for once and maybe some silverware.
