Something i just dont get about managerial appointments
« on: August 23, 2010, 03:29:45 PM »
The deal to bring Martin Jol to Fulham broke down as he was under contract and Fulham was not prepared to pay the fee requested by Ajax.

There is not a club in the prem who would not spend 3/4/5/6/7 million on a player who hardly anyone would have heard of so why are they so hesitant to pay a "transfer" fee for a manager?

Surely a manager in the long run, would be a better aquisistion than a single player - if it length of contract or size then surely it would be no more expensive than buying a Sidwell or Beye

So go to Ajax and offer them what they want for Jol's contract and get the man in - simples

Isnt it?

Didnt Wigan pay the Blues a free of £3mil to get Bruce?

Maybe he's seen the size of the job and think's he's better off at Ajax

I don't know about 'the size of the job', but I think it's entirely plausible that he (or any manager currently employed at a 'big' club) doesn't fancy switching job. I'm sure we're a strong attraction for lots of managers, but not all of them.

Managers don't have a sell-on price.

Neither do half our squad!

Perhaps Jol really doesn't want to leave a club in the European Championship with every chance of winning their league again to take on Mon's remainders.

Jol's not going anywhere until they've played Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday. After that, who knows.

Agree totaly with Hookey,
the manager is the most important person within a club,
if you get that that right everything else will fall into place

if it means spending a few mill on the right chap, it would be money well spent in the long run

I'm convinced Jol would want to come. He seemed very keen to go to Fulham a few short months ago and always speaks highly of us.

Jol would come, especially if they go out to Kiev. Ajax have huge financial problems and far more issues than us.
