Gordon Cowans, Steve Hodge, David Platt, Gareth Barry, James Milner.

Just a few names of Villa players that, once they made the England team, were being told they had to move on to be more ambitious. And so they did.

I stopped wanting to see Villa players in the England squad after the Platt episode.  It's still the same now.

Why is that? It makes no sense. Villa are a big club, what makes sitting on city's bench or playing in a poorly balanced, thrown together squad so appealing?

Is that a serious question?

I could think of about 100,000 reasons every week why players might be tempted!

More Lambourghinis ,Ferraris, third homes in Barbados, being set up for life on one contract, does that help?

Today its £££££££££££££££££, but what about before? Did Boro really pay better wages to Ehiogu, Southgate than we did?

And I guess it was the same with Platt, Cowans? I know Hodge left us at a time when we weren't going well but were Bari that really big in the late 1980s early 1990s that moving there made such an improvement to a player's pay packet and ambitioin?

Besides, and maybe its because I am so poor (!) when you're earning 50k a week, would an extra 20K really make such a difference? How fast can you actually spend that sort of money and I don't think they need to worry about having a nest egg for the future!

In-Gur-Lund aren't exactly blessed with top-class wingers (Lennon, SWP and Walcott are all very average, Johnson looks about the best of the bunch) so expect Marc to get a go before the end of the season if he carries on at this rate.  They're not exactly blessed with young centre-halfs either, so it's not unrealistic that Clark could get a call up too.

Like OzVilla says, i've been sick of it since Platt.  The only way to stop it is to put ourselves up there above Citeh, Spurs and Liverpool, so players have no reason to leave.

Don't agree.

Lennon is quality as is Walcott.

As for 'Super Marc' - he was great on Saturday, now we need consistancy.

The only way to get that is to play regularly.

Be interesting to see if he does make the teamsheet on a more permanent basis now.

He looks the part for sure.

Personally I reckon the longer he goes unnoticed by Capello the better for Villa.

This.

Other than fall over and fail to take the ball off a defender who was lying on the floor in front of his own goal I didn't see Walcott do alot vs Liverpool yesterday, not the sign of a 'quality' player.

Walcott may develop into a quality striker, but he is not, for the moment at least, a quality winger.

Fair enough, but let's just say that you're seeing something that I most certainly am not seeing.

My only concern with Albrighton (and this is based on the WHU match alone) is that he appears very one-footed. It probably won't be long until the opposition suss this out. Let's hope he can learn some tricks.
.
I thought the same at one point, but he did set up Milner's goal with his left

Definitely a good prospect but he's shown no variety in his play yet. He's got a good turn of pace but like others have said looks incredibly one footed.

Lets give him 10 games before saying Capello should have a look etc, after Saturdays performance I'm sure Newcastle will be doing their research on him.

Enrique had a great season last year by all accounts, not sure who there right back will be, Simpson or Perch?

No variety to his play? He's made one Premier League start and he didn't need to vary things up, because what he was doing was murdering them. That seems incredibly over critical.
