Bookies make all sort of irrational reactions. Based on the Twitter from what probably isn't Stephen Ireland's actual account some of them made Manchester United 6/4 favourites to sign him. There is a bollocks article someone's quoted on the transfer thread about MON leaving which the bookies could be basing this on, but apart from that there is less than zero evidence.
Victor Chandler seem to have suspended betting on MON as far as I can tell.
Bookies are very jumpy these days. They're very wary of people getting rumours from the internet that turn out to be true and taking them to the cleaners. Therefore, there's a possibility that they might not discriminate between the reputability of different rumours as perhaps we fans should and indeed do.
