This Seasons Penalty Taker

Barry used to and was not bad. He left for Man City

Milner eventually got the job and did great. He's leaving for Man City

Who will be next

Heskey. Hopefully he'll then leave for Man City.

I think Keane if we sign him.

Of the present squad I'd say Petrov might have the technique and level head to make a good fist of it.  And I'd like Gabby to be given a go to boost his goal tally.

Carew seems to have a slightly better record than Young. There aren't really any other candidates unless one of the many new signings we're bound to unveil is good at penalties.

I think Gabby has said previously that he doesn't like the pressure of taking penalties. And the couple of times I can think of that he has taken them he's missed, and not even looked like he'd score in the run up.

I think it will be Carew, but I also think Warnock would be a good taker.

If Carew isnt on the pitch at the time of the pen then it may well fall to Ash but I would prefer big Dunney to blast the ball and keeper into the back of the net.

That's why I didn't suggest Carew - I think the likely arrival of a new striker means he won't be on the pitch often enough to take them!

I think Carew should just put his foot through it when he is on the pitch - Not seen Gabby take one in a long time if ever thinking about it , I always think strikers should be fighting to get the ball of anyone to take a penalty

Agree with this, although I'd rather Gabby didn't take them.  He's got a technique that's fairly easy to read which direction they're going, and likewise with the Fonse.

Must be one of these things where the reality is different from perception as I am never confident when milner took a pen. i'm always fearing a miss whenever any Villa penalty is taken but with that  in mind I didn't ever fancy Milner. I was more happy with carew taking them. But with Keane on board - as he surely must be soon, I wouldn't mind him or Carew having them.

I agree. Now there is some revisionism around Milner on here but I was always unsure with him taking a penalty. Far from being great I even remember him missing a couple (Maybe just one but definitely think it was more than one). Carew on the other hand seemed to be a much better taker and indeed Keane seems to be excellent.
