Without meaning to derail the thread, I wonder if this could be a lot closer to the truth of MoN leaving than a lot of other things.  As it should be the manager's concern is on the field and board is off the field.

If lack of signings, the negative atmosphere due to the Milner saga and the belief from the forums that we're pretty uninspiring to watch have led to less season ticket sales it's not inconceivable that they have told MoN to do something to sort it out which has led to an argument and...

I feel bad making a rumour but that's a situation which fits the whole fact that MoN is happy to work with the club short term but felt that he was no longer the right person for the job.  If tomorrow brings news of a new manager lined up then I'd say it supports this idea as well.

I'm not a bit surprised by the 40% drop in ST sales reported by the Torygraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/astonvilla/7935765/Aston-Villa-spark-tug-of-war-for-Mark-Hughes-as-Martin-ONeill-quits-on-eve-of-new-season.html :

1) continued economic uncertainty/threat of public sector job cuts/general air of austerity and not spending money on non-essentials
2) uncertainty on whether our best player would be staying (my own reason for not renewing).
3) lack of any new signings
4) the World Cup debacle: people needed time off from football and from disappointment and they didn't get it.

Down 40% according to The Telegraph.

Doesn't quite fit in with the figures from the club does it? A few weeks ago we had sold 22,000, even in the unlikely event we've sold none since that is a drop of only about 20%.

I would question that 40 percent drop figure, to be honest. And also Richard Dunne being on 70k a week.

Good player, but really, not good enough for that kind of money.

The Richard Dunne thing I can believe:  Man City have always paid high wages (I'd have thought Dunne would have been on more than Stephen Ireland a year ago, and we know Stephen Ireland is being paid more than our highest paid player currently).

The season ticket thing:  I didn't see the announcement about the 22k, but it's possible that the season ticket REVENUE is down 40%, not total numbers sold.  Or possibly, that ST revenue is 40% below their target for this stage of the summer.  These scenarios would most likely occur if the club was failing to shift its top end packages in the boxes and in the Trinity Road.

Sign a 'bums on seats' player or two and they'll come running back.

Will they play for nothing?

I am hoping the Milner / Shorey money plus money saved on wages from Harewood and Bouma and however much we raise from further sales will be re-invested in transfer fees / wages.

Like everyone else at this stage I don't know this will be the case, I just hope it will.

We sold 24k two days before the season started and ended up selling 28k? Who has the franchise - lastminute.com?
