Players on the lash in Portugal

If three of our players were out on the lash in the early hours of this morning in the Algarve, would you think 'fair play, team mates bonding ahead of a warm up match' or 'professional footballers should be knuckling down for a tough season'?

Depends on whether they were doing it with the manager's knowledge/consent.  Generally my feeling is it would be a good thing!

Is MON the type of manager that would tolerate or even encourage drink related festivities for the players?

I think they are staying at the Amendoeira Golf Resort in Alcantarilha which is just up the road from my folks. Have to ask them to keep a beady eye out for them in town tonight!

I'd imagine he'd take a pragmatic approach to it.  If the players go out for a few drinks, have a good time and team spirit is boosted as a result, then who'd complain about that?

If they go out and get completely plastered and training suffers as a result, then he'd be right to be pissed off.

Depends how you define 'the lash'

A couple of quiet beers is no bad thing, they are adults and can decide when they go to bed I guess....if its smashed out of their heads then lets hope its Sidwell & Heskey, at which point I say, sack em :-)

Have some players been caught on the lash or something or is this just another 'what if' thread that'll end up in a MON is great/shit argument?

As for being out "in the early hours", nodody goes to bars here in the summer before midnight, clubs after three. The only thing I can see wrong is the players could seriously suffer from dehydration, such is the heat at the moment but that also applies to the players that stayed at the hotel with their Horlicks.

Good to see Martin with the lads training. Maybe he'll see the advantages as against being oh so mysterious and only turning up half an hour before kick off. Come on Martin, come and join us in the 21st century.

I wonder what O'Neill thinks of the food in Portugal.  I bet he doesn't hold with all that foreign muck.
