Deano, Merse, Angel. And though it could be a thread all of its own, 'the player we signed who has over delivered' then my vote goes to Merse for running the show, week in, week out. Pure quality and audacious with it. Though I was excited, I did wonder at the time if we were getting him too late. How wrong.

How wrong.I honestly, truly and categorically believe him to be the single most over-rated player we'd ever had. Run of the mill game against mediocre opposition, he was a star. Big game it was Merse....Merse...anyone seen Paul Merson? And a fifth round FA Cup tie at home is not a big game.
I do think he was amazingly talented and the one player who on his day we miss more than any other. But his day wasn't that often.

…and isn’t it sad to think that Merson was ten years ago, and the only player since who has been able to get the crowd excited and provide us with a flash of brilliance has been Ashley Young. Or am I missing somebody obvious?
