Player predictions for the new season
« on: July 19, 2010, 11:17:21 AM »
Who will be the Best and Worst and most improved players etc in the coming season ?,
Remember anything you say can be used as evidence against you at any time as the season unfolds

Best -
Ashley Young,
i think he's a top quality player who will have a really big season, he went of the boil a bit last time out, but will be smarting over the world cup omision, and will be up for it this time around.
his delivery is the key, as he takes most free kicks corners and plenty of crosses,
he'l be are best player next season, new transfers aside

Average -
Agbonlahor,
another average season for him, pitching in with about a dozen goals again,
and flattering to decieve as usual,
as H+V posters keep banging on with how young he is and still plenty of room for improvement he heads for his mid 20's

Scapegoat-
Stuart Downing
not a big fan, was not good enough when we signed him, did nothing to prove any different last season, will be the same next.
Villa fans will be tearing there hair out with MON wanting him dropped by the end of the season,
of coarse MON wont as he payed loads for him and he's one of his special can do no wrong boys
next seasons Heskey

most improved-
dont know but hopefully will be Downing or Gabby, just to prove me wrong, which i honestly wont mind

Best - I wouldn't argue with Ash.

Worst - don't like to pick one, but I can see either Collins or Warnock dropping off a little and getting some shit from the fans.

Most improved - Downing.

Scapegoat - whoever Martin plays at rightback.

That to me doesn't look like the definition of a scapegoat.

Most improved - would like to see Delph get a run in at the later part of the season, but more likely we will see Carlos do wonders at centre back.
I would like to think MON will improve and not play players when injured.

I think Robbie Keane will be next seasons Richard Dunne

I think more people will moan at Petrov next year.

because we could all see he was knackered and ineffectual after 60 minutes towards the end of last season.

he won't have got any younger over the summer.

Will surprise a few - Downing, after a full pre-season, we'll see the real player.

Will struggle - Petrov. Age starting to catch up with him

Could be big - Delph, Delfouneso - but they're going to need to actually get more time on the pitch. Hopefully a UEFA run will help here.

Key season - Gabby. Needs to show he can be more than a 15 a season man. Also a big season with the flux in the England team and the chance to stake a claim there.

Is it too much to hope that Curtis Davies and/or NRC could fully realise their potential ?
With both when we signed them the same comment was made either in the media or in the case of Davies, by West Brom fans I know.
"You have just signed a potential future England captain"

Pretty much agree with that to be honest, dependant on who we may or may not sign. I do also hope that Friedel won't be over the hill by this season.

That's been repeated often enough to almost make it the H&V Godwin's Law number 2.

I'm sceptical myself.   He played over 30 games last season, so why would a few half arsed friendlies prepare him any better than the first half a dozen league games of last season?  Given how many of the youngsters played in the friendlies last season, I'm not sure how much effect the pre-season will have on Downing.  We'll see though.

He'll be more settled at the club, he'll be further "over" his injury, and he'll have had the benefit of Martin's tactical tuition over the summer.

Fact is, we're going to have to give him the benefit of the doubt, really. Unless we look to move on a 10m player after half a season, which seems a bit daft.

I'll give Downing a chance, as far as I'm concerned it's a fresh start for him.

Best - Ashley Young, Cuellar (if played at centre-back), Milner (I can hope!)

High hopes (only to be dashed) - Carew, hopefully can play consistently well for a season, or at least two thirds. We look a much better team when he plays well. Delph, when he eventually comes back.

Struggle - Petrov, the right-back who isn't a right-back (so, potentially Cuellar), Downing

Should be taken out and shot - Heskey
