0% Villa - Hodgson to Liverpool

From the Liverpool Echo (twitter):

ROY HODGSON will be officially named Liverpool FC’s new manager tomorrow (Wednesday).

The 62-year-old is due on Merseyside to complete the formalities of signing a contract after the Reds agreed a compensation package in the region of £2million with Fulham for his release.

Cordial negotiations have been ongoing in the past 72 hours between Liverpool’s Managing Director Christian Purslow and Fulham Chief Executive Alastair Mackintosh and they have now reached a successful conclusion.

Though Liverpool – who have remained tight-lipped throughout their search to replace Rafa Benitez – were linked with a clutch of names, Hodgson was always the number one candidate.

Other names in the frame included former Real Madrid boss Manuel Pellegrini, Galatasary’s Frank Rijkaard and Didier Deschamps of Marseille, while Kenny Dalglish also made it clear he was desperate to take the job on.

Dalglish had initially been named as part of the recruitment process but he was desperate to have a second crack at the post he occupied between 1985 and 1991 when he felt his claims were as strong as the other candidates.

The board, though, were anxious to pursue Hodgson and Liverpool will be his 16th job in a managerial career that has spanned almost 35 years.

This is going to make it slightly harder to dislike them. Only slightly mind. I still think they'll finish about 7th again, especially if they lose Gerrard or Torres.

More importantly did the Liverpool Echo break the twitter maximum character law?

After over-achieving with Fulham, I'm not really surprised that he's got the gig.

It does though speak volumes for all that's gone wrong at Anfield: Liverpool are no longer a club that is going to attract the very top managers.

They are currently a club in decline and will be until Hicks and Gillett finally manage to sell up to some Arab back by sovereign wealth.   They'll not finish back amongst the Top 4 next season.

I don't know about that.If Liverpool struggle it'll be because if the financial predicament that their chairmen have put them in.

They've offloaded a bloke who thought that Spanish talent could make up the bulk of the side and who thought Keane and Barry would be the final pieces in the puzzle, and in his place a man who can intelligently build a team.

I'd be interested to know what they've promised him in the way transfer funds.

They needed a guy to do well with meagre resources. They now have that I think.

At least one of their top players will be off though and possibly both. It will be hard for him to compete. I think he's an overseer to keep them competitive and stable until they find a new owner.

I suggest that Woy now looks at adding extra security for his house :)

Emile Heskey is a big lad. He'd look after the place and maybe play a few games for him.
Say, £6m? England centre forward and former Anfield hero you know...

A steady hand to get them through the crap Gillette and Hicks have put them in. I give him a couple of years at best if a sale is done.

What odds on Zamora playing for Liverpool? I'm also pretty sure Hangelaand will bo on the shopping list now. They need an imposing CB. Also wouldn't be surprised if Woy cashed in on Reina and bought in Schwarzer.

If he does go suggests to me he might have heard that Capello will be staying on as England manager.

Shame, I like Hodgson, it will make it just a little harder to enjoy Liverpool's decline.

What we can expect is Pool to break the all time "most scoreless draws in a season"-record. This guy doesn't care if his team scores or not, as long as they don't concede any
