What an absolute idiot. Play for a whole season to get to the final then throw it away like that.

Exactly.

What's even more astonishing is that no one is condemning him for it. His gaffer has come out in support, the guy he's clocked says its just one of those things, former players have said it was an understandable reaction, albeit the second punch probably went a bit far.

Could you imagine the outrage if that had happened in a football match?!

The commentators were even saying that if it had just been the first punch, he should have been allowed to stay on the pitch.

Police might be getting involved

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/police-may-investigate-ben-flowers-vicious-attack-in-super-league-grand-final-20141013-11551x.html.

IMO its correct that Flowers should face police investigation. His actions had nothing to do with sport, it was workplace assault.

Flowers banned from The Northern Game for 6 months.

In effect, 10 Super League matches.

Yep, a six month ban sounds much worse than it is given the ban starts from the last game of the season.  On the basis the minimum punishment for the charge was an 8 game ban he seems to have got away pretty lightly.

I dunno....Duncan McRae: eleven punches to the head of a grounded Ronan O’Gara earned the New South Wales Waratahs full back a red card, a seven-week ban and a lifetime of infamy....

pretty much in keeping with the laws of the game. I'm not saying it's right, just what i expected.

It's actually the longest ban they've ever given for an on-field incident, you can't consider it to be a 'soft' one.

Ad@m, I'm not sure in league but minimum bans don't really work that way in rugby (i.e. how you'd expect) they normally have an entry point (8 games in this case) but the actual ban is then filtered through previous record, prior events (provocation), remorse, etc and they come up with something that's usually fair (sometimes bans are just the right length to give a player  nice rest before an important international, but that's being cynical).  With the other guy being given a 1 game ban for the forearm to the face that led to it (I doubt he'd have been banned without the reaction though) 10 games seems a bit high to me, I reckon any other game of the season and it would've been 6-8 games, that's fits with previous incidents like this.

Does anyone here watch the NRL ?

Does Jarryd Hayne have what it takes to make the switch to a proper sport ?

He's a great player is Hayne and has just shared the Dally M with Jonothan Thurston which is basically the NRL version of MVP.

Not sure he'll make it in the NFL though. Being one of the best players in a sport only played in 2 states with a combined total of approx 14 million is one thing. The NFL is entirely another.

Still if it doesn't work out he could come back and teams will queue up to sign him so why not.

Great game Rugby League by the way.

Toronto Wolfpack to join League One next season. I suppose you could say it demonstrates ambition but seems crackers to me.

Catalans Dragons second in Super League. Now through to QF of Challenge Cup. This all puts SWMBO's boss in a good mood.

They are playing Huddersfield Giants (who are second from bottom) in Perpignan next Saturday. I have requested tickets to the VIP section (mainly for the free bar and food, before, during and after the game).

That said, I have always preferred League egg-chasing to Union. I can most definitely trace this curious preference back to Mike Yarwood doing cod Eddie Waring impressions on TV in the Seventies
