To be fair to him he improved a lot whilst he was in Germany. Was just unfortunate to fall out with the new manager at his club.

Good signing for them I have to say probably would have made a decent squad player for us.

I'd have loved to have seen him back at VP.

One of my favourite players of recent years

Count me out.
One trick pony who couldn't tackle for shit, I doubt he's got any better in the mean time.

Decent signing for West Ham.

I always thought he was decent.

Bit of a strange one. Is it Avram Grant's first signing in English football? Not sure if he bought anyone at Chelsea or Pompey.

Hitz was a nice fella and all, with a left foot that could indeed open a tin of beans but he struggled to impose himself on games and watching him for Stuttgart over the last couple of years, he doesn't seem to have improved significantly. He's only been at Lazio a few months and it doesn't look like he pulled up any trees there either. Failed to make the German squad for the World Cup too.

A very good move for him but I don't think we're missing out.

Me neither. Very average player with a good shot.

Completely agree. Steve Davis + a shot.

One of those players that gets everyone shouting shoot!! No matter how far out he is. Other than his shot, he was pretty naff. Opposition players could walk past him. Last time I saw him play he appears to have improved his passing.

I loved Tommy when he was here, but that could be more an indictment of how we were back then rather than him being anything special.

Haven't seen much of him since he left, but unless he has improved dramatically in that time, I don't think he's be anything more more than a squad player at VP now and would like to think we have moved beyond signing that type of player now.

He's no Zidane, but I always thought his distribution was tidy and his overall game decent enough.

Yes he probably did have a tendency to fade in matches. Like most youngsters, in fact.

But I'd say he must have improved that side of his game if he was made captain of his club side and featured regularly for his national side during the time he was away.

There is also the small matter of him actually still following the Villa and coming over to watch us during his free time. Think of some of the tosspots- even the home based ones- who couldn't wait to up sticks and move and never looked back once they were out of the door.

Seen him at the WHam (funnily enough) home match last season.

He was also interviewed soon after MON took over and said he was delighted with the appointment and still watches as many games as he can in Germany.

This was when he was visiting Brum soon after the WC in 2006 IIRC.

Was directly in line with his last minute belter at the Reebok, stunning goal that still brings a smile
