Kevin McCarra must have had a bang on the head if he thinks Barry was man of the match..

or like many others who have commented similarly he knows his football and isn't tainted by any bias concerning Barry.

Look here Mrs Overall. When Barry pulls on an England shirt in competitive football, I'll support him. He didn't play well. That's based on my opinion that he didnt play well and nothing to do with Villa matters.
Beckham came on because the midfield were struggling after all.

So you accept that your view could be seen to be biased against Barry then ?

As to Beckham I thought his introduction was more down to Lennon's lack of anything, SWP not being much better, Lampards ineffective runs, of course unless you are suggesting Barry's performance was to blame.

Still it is your opinion and like McCarra I disagree.

Wasn't Andy Gray black in in second spell? otherwise I don't remember it.

Andy Gray played for us in that awful Henson kit period. 85-86? or 86-87?

As for Barry, I thought he was okay for England. Thought Beckham did give us some spark also when he came on.

MoM should have gone to Crouch though.

I agree, he was very static.

Thought Barry had a very good game myself. His passing was very incisive at times.

Couldn't find THE Barry Thread and anyway have a suspicion some spoilsport locked it, so this one will have to do.

The Times have an interesting stat today:

"Given their huge spending, Manchester City have underperformed this season despite generally good results and Gareth Barry has yet to settle after his summer move from Aston Villa.  His error in losing the ball in his own half in the build up to Burnley's second goal typified a poor season.

Barry in league:  Misplaced passes in own half per 90 minutes

Last season for Aston Villa:   1.76
This season for Man City:      2.28

If Man City do well and get into the champions League then they can attract the top players with their money.  Barry will be dropped like a stone and we'll probably pick him up for £4m - £5m.

I'd certainly have him back.

I wouldn't best days, like his arse, are behind him.

Yes, did you see him trying to track back we he lost the ball? It was painful to watch.

I'd forgotten just how slow Barry is, his arse really holds him back.  Several times in this world cup he has given the ball away and just not been able to catch or even keep up with the opposing player.

Barry was way out of his depth yesterday. His lack of mobility was exposed in horrendous fashion. He's nowhere near good enough to shield a back four at that level.

Couple this with the very ordinary season he had for Citeh, then it looks like we did a bit of a Fergie and sold at the right time.

No thanks. And as he's on about £125k p/w I'd be disgusted if we paid somebody slower than a coastline that much to leave our defence in peril.
We had the best of him, I'm happy for him to help block Man Citys dressing room up now.

If Barry is for sale for £4million I will seriously eat my own hand.

We sold him with one year left on his contract for £12million and he currently has 3 years left on a massive contract.

God No!

No pace, no mobility, no acceleration.

Brazil and Argentina are showing how to play the game, passing with pace, closeing down high up the field, play at pace in the game....Barry can't do that, his time has gone.

Rather buy an Annan, or Bradley, up and coming players.Plus Delph will be a lot better anyway.

And to say he played well yday is just plain ridiculous, granted they were all shit, but apart fronm Gerrard i thought they were all a 4 tbh.
