Barry signs back up at the Villa

Apologies to Mods if this doesn't deserve a thread of its own.

Old habits and all that:

Quote from: "Kevin McCarra in this morning's Graun"
The man of the match award ought to have gone to Gareth Barry rather than the 34-year-old substitute, since the Aston Villa player was not just composed but also incisive. Even so, Beckham effortlessly showed an accomplishment beyond the reach of many younger players. There will be exasperation that he cannot be overlooked even in his dotage.

If Man City do well and get into the champions League then they can attract the top players with their money.  Barry will be dropped like a stone and we'll probably pick him up for £4m - £5m.

I'd certainly have him back.

The commentary on the FA website highlights called Barry a villa player as well.

I would hope that by then, we'll have a top quality midfield of our own, which Barry might struggle to get into (if Delph develops, we might be half way there). Mind you, I'm not yet convinced that Man City are just going to stroll into the CL. For a start Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are going to be very hard to shift. On top of that I still think ourselves, Everton and Spurs are going to have something to say about it too. I certainly think we're capable of growing out of Barry in the next few years...

Kevin McCarra must have had a bang on the head if he thinks Barry was man of the match.
The game was so lacking in quality that when a player of absolute quality came on (Beckham) he stood out like a ray of light. I can understand why he was awarded man of the match but he didn't exactly have to move mountains to get it.

or like many others who have commented similarly he knows his football and isn't tainted by any bias concerning Barry.
