Oh well, my trip's almost over.

I'm currently sat in Washington/Dulles Airport ahead of my flight home.

Free wi-fi (are you listening Heathrow ?).

I really enjoyed the Minor League part of the trip, especially Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen. That place is way too good just to be used for a Short-Season Single A team.

I read this morning that the Phillies were playing Seattle.....and thought for a second, "When did the Pilots come back?"

I'm a bit of a collector of Jim Bouton & Seattle Pilots stuff. "Ball Four" was one of the first baseball books I read and I still consider it the best.

I have signed photos and cards of Jim in all his uniforms except from his short-lived 1978 comeback with the Braves. I also have two rare Pilots games on audio cassette and various scorecards, player cards etc.

I'd also recommend Jim's other books; such as "I'm Glad You Didn't Take It Personally" (which covers the trouble that Ball Four got him into with MLB) and "Foul Ball" which deal with his efforts to save/restore the ballpark in Pittsfield, up-state New York

The Natinals win 11 out of their last 12 games, so what does their manager, Jim Riggleman do?

.............. he quits, that's what he does.

Before the last game he apparently told his boss that if the team didn't sign him up for next season, he'd quit.

The Nats called his bluff and accepted his resignation.

Yes, Riggleman seemed to have the previously 'orrible Nats heading in the right direction but he was hardly the second coming of Miller Huggins or Joe McCarthy and wasn't really in a position to hold the team to ransom like this.
