To be fair i play cricket and i have kept wicket for 30 years.

I was in New york and they had an outdoor event and the prize was a car if a member of the public could "hit" a ball bowled by the pitcher (cant remember his name)

Anyhow i thought i might have a go so i stood behind the batters line to watch what the pitcher was doing with the ball so when it came to my turn i might have half a chance.

It was virtually impossible to see the ball let alone whether it was a curve ball or a slider or whether it was going to hit you in the face and decpaitate your head off its shoulders. From that day on i have given them some respect. I still find the game boring on TV but i enjoyed the toronto blue jays playing The Twins live in the summer.

I decided against having a go at winning the prize there was no point nobody hit the ball other than "nicks behind"

I care UK, I love baseball, use to play a bit, very very badly and like watching it.  Support the Indians so can't share your joy.

I've faced what I would call a good amateur pitcher, like RSS said, difficult to see let alone hit, and I like to think I had at that time a good eye for a ball.

The other impressive thing to me was the fielding, relatively few mistakes and some of them had a tremendous arm.  Ball came in like an exocet.

Yooouuuuuukkkkk.........................

Beat down in Beantown

Sox 13, Rox 1

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=271024102

Sox lead "World"** Series 1 - 0

** and yet again a national newspaper, this time the Telegraph, prints the urban myth that the "World" Series was named because it was originally sponsored by the "New York World" newspaper. This is BOLLOCKS.

When will journalists get it into their thick heads that the "World Series" is so named because the Americans ARE arrogant enough to declare the winners of a national competition "World Champions".

I'm probably alone in thinking that the World Series winners are entirely justified in declaring themselves the best in the world.

When I first moved over here I used to take the piss out of my boss for the Yanks using that term, and his response to me was always: "bring your best team over and we'll play them".   Fair enough, really.

I think that the winners from Japan would give the "World Series" winners a good run for their money.

After all, it was Japan who won the first "World Baseball Classic" (aka World Cup).

3 - 0

This was the game I expected the Rockies to win. However, the Boston rookies (Dice-K, Pedroia and Ellsbury) were on their game.

A Holliday 3 run homer did get the Rockies back to within one but then the Sox bats sealed things.

Wow, I must be psychic. I posted the above before I'd even read that A-Rod had opted out of his contract with the Yankees.

Scott Boras must already have a deal lined up for Alex. I can't see them walking away from a guaranteed $81m over the next three years unless they've got another contract almost ready.

The only places I can see A-Rod going are LA (either Dodgers or Angels), Chicago Cubs or the Red Sox

Well, I couldn't shut up for long.

However, being as this relates to the original subject of this thread, I feel justified in posting.

Barry Bonds has been indicted by a Grand Jury who allege that he lied to a previous investigation about his use of performance enhancing drugs.

Its going to be an interesting year or so for sports related legal cases in the USA. First OJ Simpson is accused of armed robbery (its difficult to see him getting away with it this time because they have it on tape) and now Barry Bonds.
