The bracket is set:

East- Atlantic
Canadiens v Rangers
Senators v Bruins

East- Metropolitan
Capitals v Maple Leafs
Penguins v Blue Jackets

West- Central
Blackhawks v Predators
Wild v Blues

West- Pacific
Ducks v Flames
Oilers v Sharks

My predictions, whoever wins out of Capitals and Penguins to win the cup. All Canadian teams to go out first round. Sharks or Blackhawks from the West.

Any ice hockey fans out there ?

The season started yesterday with the Stanley Cup champions Carolina  losing at home to Buffalo.

It'll be interesting to see whether the Capitals' Alexander Ovechkin can repeat the success of his rookie season and whether Sydney Crosby lives up to the hype of being the "next Gretsky".

Back in the UK, the Cardiff Devils are still homeless and playing all their games on the road. The new arena is progressing slowly after the first part of the building that went up, promptly fell back down  ](*,)

So, did Sydney Crosby become the next Gretsky or did he go down because of all those sex assault charges?

Peter - I have no idea what you are talking about.  Given that I live in the same city where Crosby plays, I may be a little biased, but I do see more of him than most the country and I would say once all is said and done, he will be top 3 of all-time.

I think that Peter might have been going for a Cosby/Crosby joke

Movin' on.......

I don't see Crosby cracking the top five, let alone the top three

Which of these do you have him above USAV ?

The Great One
Orr
Gordie
Mario
Rocket

I would have him behind Gretsky and Mario.   The other two played in a different era, so harder to compare.

What about Roenick?  Always scored for me on NHL 95!

I know nothing about ice hockey, I've watched it a few times but always found it exceptionally hard to follow the puck - especially when there's goalmouth action. However, I watched the Red Army documentary about the Soviet teams of the 70s & 80s on Netflix the other night and it was fascinating. Is there any particular reason you haven't considered any of these players ?

I was thinking mainly NHL Luke.

Factoring in KHL and Soviet era is too complicated for me

Penguins v Preds in the finals. Canadian teams made better fist of it than I thought, Senators very close to the finals and Oilers lost game 7 in conference SFs

The problem is that the NHL isn't on Sky or BT/ESPN in the UK any more.

Its on Premier, which would require yet another subscription.
