....and thanks to the poeple of Vancouver, Gary Bettman has another reason to keep putting teams in the southern USA

"Similar riots broke out in the Canadian city after the Canucks lost the Stanley Cup in 1994."

Get a grip people.

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lokomotiv_Yaroslavl_plane_crash

Looks like one player and one crew member survived.

One guy was dropped from the squad at the last minute and told to fly to Moscow rather than Minsk

Yesterday, I made my first visit of the season to the "Big Blue Tent" to see the Cardiff Devils get hammered 6-2 by the Belfast Giants.

I used to go to every home game and even some away, but these days I do find myself struggling to make the effort of the hour each way drive to home games.

Went to see the unimpressive Chicago Blackhawks struggle to defeat the returning Winnipeg Jets almost two weeks ago and then Montreal Canadiens host and lose to Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Despite the 5-4 OT scoreline, was MASSIVELY disappointed, mainly because both sets of fans used the spectacularly uninspiring "GO [insert abbreviated team name here] GO" to cheer on their team and for the most part, the "Habs" fans only remembered to make some noise when the scoreboard helpfully reminded them to do so, in both English and French.

I don't think English 'soccer' fans are anywhere near as passionate as Sky would like to have us believe, but people attending North American sporting events leave a LOT to be desired.

The general absence of mindless, often abusive, singing/chanting is one of the things that I like about sports Stateside

It'll be interesting to see how Sid does when he takes his first big hit (if anyone dares to lay one on him)

They have gone mad for him over here since his comeback, but he did have a good game.
