It's that time again to look at the list of contenders and think 'how the hell is he/she on the list?'
The contenders.
Ben Stokes
Dina -Asher-Smith
Raheem Sterling (how the hell is he on the list?)
Alun Wyn Jones
Lewis Hamilton (good god no)
Katarina Johnson-Thompson
-
Well, that is a singularly uninspiring list.
Stokes or KJT for me (Clive). Sterling done nothing amazing.
Hamilton is very impressive in his dominance, but not a particularly interested in F1 and think he has won it before (?).
Asher-Smith won gold but in a field missing the very best.
So, Stokes won WC and some totemic individual performances. KJT won world gold, but IIRC Thiam was carrying an injury so could have been different.
-
Asher-Smith for me, she's had a superb season.
-
Have to agree on your Sterling question. For the umpteenth year no British footballer has really done anything that deserves a nomination, yet they have to try to get one in.
-
I think Ellen White is unlucky seeing as she was top scorer at the World Cup.

or Lucy Bronze - UEFA Player Of The Year.
-
I’d like to see Alun Wyn Jones win but he won’t
-
And the winner is...…..Jack Grealish!!!
Thank you for voting!
-
1st Stokes, 2nd Dina 3rd Lewis H.

Stokes or Hamilton. Preferably Stokes.
-
Anyone but Hamilton.
-
For me you can split the list into 3:
People who shouldn't be on it - Sterling and Wyn-Jones
People in a sport where they're set up to dominate - Hamilton
and
People who actually deserve to be included - Asher-Smith, Stokes and Johnson-Thompson.
I'd be happy for any of those 3 to win but I'm slightly uncomfortably picking a cricketer in a year when we failed to claim the ashes at home and whilst DAS and KJT were both incredible KJT was treading a well-worn path whilst DAS is in an event where we've been under-represented for years.
-
England won a World Cup. Moore won SPOTY it in 1966, Wilkinson won it in 2003. Stokes has a claim in 2019 regardless of The Ashes.

I know, as I said, he deserves to be in the mix but There's just a little black mark for me.
-
Probably best just to give it to KJT or her mate from Killing Eve will murder the judges.

When does voting open?

When does voting open?
During the show for the main award.

So team of the year is the England T20 squad, moment of the year was the winning run out in the final. I suspect we're heading to a cricket hat-trick, and I will understand it if Stokes gets the win but giving all 3 trophies for the same match (effectively) seems like a slap in the face to the rest of the contenders.

Ben Stokes

Well deserved Ben. Feel for Dina but Stoksey can not be denied.
-
Hamilton in 2nd and KJT not in the top 3 shows that the British public can't be trusted to vote for things!
-
Voted for Dina, so obviously she was never going to win. I'd love to know what it's like, just once, to vote for a winner.
-
Well done Ben, fully deserved and nice to see Sir Ron get a mention in the Sports stars, who have passed away.
