Don’t mind the starting XI given the injuries. That bench is not particularly inspiring though.

What exactly the fuck is up with Jack?
Another innocuous looking injury keeping him our for weeks again?

Also as a sidenote why is Chester making the bench ahead of Hause?

Hause has looked so good in the League Cup games, what if Konsa or Mings is injured early on. Chester who has been injured for 10 months being thrown on in a heated 100mph local derby. Such a strange risk.

Hause must be questioning his absence from Premier League squads himself.

I'm not looking forward to seeing Matt Targett up against Traore. Far too slow and defending is questionable. For all Taylor's attacking limits, he can at least defend.

Well this is the sort of performance which makes you worry if there will be three teams worse than us in the league. Shoddy in possession, no fluidity at all and we're playing right into their hands by letting them overload us out wide and run at us at pace. Two on a booking as well. This is only going to end one way unless Deano changes it.

Matt Targett for me was the oddest of the summer signings given what we all thought the type of players Dean Smith was after. He’s a decent back up full back, he gets forward but I don’t really get how he is a PL footballer. That’s an area we have to invest in again.

We just can't cope with their 3-5-2 particularly as Jota drops off Jimenez and floats to link up with midfield.

Problem with wide players is they don't get on the ball they're passengers and we then get outnumbered out wide and in central midfield.

We had the right idea last month but Grealish injury has scuppered that, also Jota being out at the same time.

Wolves are a good team though.

I imagine everyone is now realising that was actually a youth team they put out v us in the cup.

With Targett going off we can only make one attacking change in second half now so very limited options.

Would be amazed if we get a point out of us particularly as we have a few on yellows aswell. Not good.

Dean Smith has been completely out coached by Nuno. We aren’t even in the game.

More down to the players for me, pretty much all outfield players have been wank this half.

Talent is what it is.. but seriously what the hell was the gameplan today?

It'll be interesting what changes at half time.

Based on games thus far, I don't think he'll change anything.

I agree.

I just think its strange that everyone out there is having a nightmare.. not a single player is up to par today.

Has Dean put them in the best position to win or succeed?

As was the case on final day of the window we badly lack proven options in the final third.

What an awful first half.  we are playing like the players have only just met each other. Despite that, Wolves only had soft efforts on goal, apart from the free kick, which was terribly naive from Villa.   More effort required, more belief that we can score goals, more movement, better ball retention required second half.

It’s not been great.  The 3 injuries in key positions were massive losses.  And the 2 injuries in the first half mean we’ve little chance of switching style and personnel.

After last few weeks of promise DS has gone back to being naive today although the injuries haven't really helped.

We would not be this poor if Jack was in. He'd be floating around their back 3, picking up space, running at them, winning free kicks and corners.

Ultimately I don't think it's too dramatic to say a bottom six standard side is going to miss one of the better creative players in this division. Particularly as our other forward players are still pretty unproven at this level.

Nobody's played well. Luiz is a huge disappointment so far too given the reputation he arrived with. I can't work out what sort of midfielder he is. Nakamba is having is worst game for us, Konsa and Mings were reasonable until the latter decided to clean out Traore.

The full backs were atrocious but also completely outnumbered and constantly had players with 30 yards of room running at them. That is really difficult to defend against. I feel like Targett gave up in the end. The coaching team must know how Wolves play, yet we have ourselves up to encourage all their strengths.

El Ghazi isn't shit but he is horribly inconsistent. Today is one of his bad days. Trez improved a bit. Poor Wesley stands no chance. McGinn never in it.

It's a problem with 4-3-3. Our 3 have been too narrow trying to nulify Moutinho and Neves. Add in AEG and Trez going back to completely useless and means our full backs get exposed and we get tunnelled in.

As much as DS is wedded to 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 or whatever sometimes changing a formation for the odd game isn't the worst idea in the world.

Pretty sure a few teams this season have played 3 at the back to match Wolves and got a result because of it.

Did not one player or member of the coaching staff think 'ooh, hang on a minute. Neves, who's quite fucking proficient from 30 yards out, is currently 30 yards out with not a Villa player within 15 yards of him?' Christ sake. It's not like he's not done that before a dozen fucking times for the dogheads.

Dean needs to think of a different system. Playing 4-3-3, if your widemen are as inconsistent and striker as ineffectual as ours are, then you're asking for trouble. One reason our form improved when Grealish was pushed up there was because he's composed and affects the game. Trez an AEG are far too similar playing both is pointless. The odds of one having a good game is 1 in 4. Both at the same time? Buy a lottery ticket and you'll get better odds.

Luiz has been poor too. Hourihane should have started. He has a bit of composure and can make things happen, particularly at set pieces (the few we've had, we've wasted).

We need 2-3 in january if we're gonna stay up.

This team is just as bad as Southampton, Watford and Norwich. Players like El Ghazi will be the reason why we're not far from the bottom 3 all season.

Today yes, he's utterly useless.  Though last game v Liverpool I thought he was excellent.  From the off today we looked like a set of players feeling very sorry for themselves.

We lost the last game and took 0 points. Anything else is IRRELEVANT!!!!

With the inability to change much as only 1 sub left, i'm not overly confident for this half.

If we had another change available I'd have hooked one of the wide boys off (probably Trez) and put on Hourihane. Try to get back the shape we looked decent at last few weeks.

As it stands I think it's keep it to 1-0, put on Kodj and hope he think it's 2017 again.

Wonder if all these valiant (/brainless) performances where we’ve dropped points are taking their toll on morale and energy levels. I blame smith’s lack of game management for that, ultimately.

I also wonder how many more kicks in the bollocks our lot can take from late collapses. Last week was so inevitable yet so painful yet again. And going into a game against a Wolves team that play a similar way and have technical players without Jack, and then to lose Engels and Heaton would have knocked the stuffing out of us. And we are playing like we are going through the motions without any energy or fight. It's very poor indeed.

Last season going 3 months without a win without him playing certainly showed that. I guess it's the instant reaction of a match thread but surprised people are just dismissing it and wondering why we are playing s***.

This level is brutal if you play key games without your best players. Despite all the money spent we have nowhere near a competitive end squad for this level in the final third.

I agree but also we don’t have the squad (or maybe the manager) to win a different way. That makes us more vulnerable to losing key players than most.

If we had a different striker, more versatility with options in midfield or a manager who could surprise other teams we’d cope better.

Well it all comes back to August 31st dosen't it? We have enough to beat likes of Norwich and Brighton but once we get a few injuries in final third we have very little decent options. Games like today show not getting in another forward was a bit of an error.

Good that we have another transfer window left in the season to improve things, doing nothing isn't an option this year.

with all due respect to Henri Lansbury, and I like him as a player, but at his very apex of ability and talent he is at times a very good Championship level midfielder. He's not the quality of player we need to get us a point against a team with a midfield containing Neves and Moutinho.

The system means we are constantly chasing the ball. For all his pretty possession based football and philosophy our team has played with much less of the ball against most sides this season. No wonder our players look exhausted and it's certainly no wonder the one player who does most of the running looks out on his feet in every single game late on.

Chickened out? I think he just failed to get his shot away. Not sure what the hell he was doing up there in the first place, probably showing our midfield and attackers where the Wolves box is. Shame as he'd had Traore in his pocket this half and the defence has looked much better this half.

We have too many passengers in this side. It's still no excuse for Smith's selection today but we've made it very easy for Wolves today. A few players need to have a long hard look at themselves.

That late goal could be handy for our goal difference at the end of season.

He's been poor in the 2nd half for a couple of months now. Looks a completely different player the the one that starred in the first. Needs sorting out.

What a shambles. Out fought, out thought, completely disorganised.

Leaving Neves alone on his own on the edge the box - you get what you deserve.

Wesley, El Ghazi and Trezeguet in particular need massive kick up the arse. The lack of quality on the bench said it all, Taylor ain't good enough and did Lansbury  actually touch the ball when he came on?

Dean Smith today was incredibly naïve with his team set up.

I thought El Ghazi provided pretty much all of our best moments today, not that there were many of them, and Taylor I thought did ok.  Those blaming him for their second are simply wrong.
