Title: Aston Villa vs The Kit Stealers Pre-Match Thread - Monday 16th at 8pm.
Post by: Toronto Villa on September 12, 2019, 12:14:05 AM
May as well kick of the pre match thread. I'll go for 2-1 to us. Wesley and Jack with the goals. I can see Conor coming in for one of the wingers and Marvelous on the bench along with Kodjia.

They don’t travel well. I think their record at VP is pretty poor.
Could do with a win, expect a draw.

I told my 8 yo daughter who the next game was on the way to school and she said ‘you mean the kit stealers’? So proud.

1-0 squeaky win us. Wesley goal.

Looking forward to it, going to be a full house again on our side, and will be interesting to see how we come back from the Palace saga.

Starting to get the buzz and can't wait.  It's a very important game for us and one where a win would make such a positive difference.  A clean sheet would be nice.  The Everton game will have given the new lads a taste of what Villa Park can be like, let's hope it inspires them on Monday.

season ticket holder at West Ham said they have sold all of theirs, sadly due to work commitments cannot make this one so my mates lad is going to his 2nd game at Villa Park the 1st being the win over Everton :)

we have goals in us....so a clean sheet please Villa....

We've got to be winning games like this.  Also, given that we're the Monday game, we don't want any sort of gap to start appearing between the bottom three and the rest.  Well we do, as long as we're not in it.

We've got to be winning games like this.

Funnily enough, they're saying the same thing on their forum.  That and apparently a lot of them hate or despise us but aren't sure why, even though we've never done anything so bad as that terrible cross-arm gesture that seams to be rife among their lot like a bad case of scabies.

This game opens old battles within my family as my brother and nephew are West Ham fans. Over the years I always ruled the roost as we usually got a result against this lot. They're a different team now, not a basket case like they use to be, think i'd take a draw.

They're a bit creaky at the back (I think), so get Wesley supported, and we'll win this. This will be our first come back from a goal down to win, game of the season.

Lanzini to score early, and Engels and Jota for us in reply.

I'll be driving home for the game from work Oop North. The last time I did that, we drew 0-0 with 'boro, in a game as exciting as it sounds. I hope for better fayre.

2-0. And if I can let slip a small wish, I'd like to see us go two in the middle. I love our attacking players, but I can't help thinking that we might be better with a bigger platform allowing one fewer of them to be more effective.

And I'm off to self flagellate for doubting Smith.

And just to clarify understanding West Ham are affectionately referenced as Kit Stealers because the kit went 'missing' after the villa players lost a bet at Birmingham fair and had to steal the villa kit to pay the bet ?! So west ham wore a stolen kit ?? And adopted the colours

I think it is because they copied our colours

They also arrived at VP a few years ago without an away kit so they played in their home kit of predominantly Claret & Blue and we actually played at home in one of our away kits - white and Claret shorts IIRC

Why we never let them play in the away kit is a mystery unless this issue was the names on the shirt prehaps

The Ref was not happy as their away kit was too near to ours. They had not brought any other change so MON agreed to us playing in our white away shirts. Yes, Heskey scored in a 1-1 draw.

The story of the lost bet involved a sprinter called William Dove, and is disputed.
More likely they adopted Claret & Blue so they could look like the best and most successful. Leeds United did the same in the 1960s, mimicking Real Madrid.

I read Burnley honoured villa by wearing Claret and Blue and Trabanspor in turkey also do the same.
Also Crystal palace were helped with their kit in the formative years by Villa and worn a claret and blue combo but over years have altered it.

The fact is Villa are the original claret and blue masters !
West ham are some cheap dime store imitation

Our set pieces and corners , when we get any , have been awful .
We really miss Conor when it comes to free kicks , its just trying to get him in the team .   Lansburys really improved and I think DS really likes him but cant see him starting for a while yet.
Id try get either Luis or Marvellous and Conor in there If he can with SJM and JG .

I don't agree with the "happy with a point" view to be honest.  If a draw is the best we can hope for at home to West Ham, we might as well slink back down to the Championship now to be honest.  I'm not saying that they're a bad team or that it won't be a tough game, but outside of the established top 6, we should be thinking we can beat everybody else at home.

Point would be fine for me. Next two home games are Burnley and Brighton, those are certainly two home games that we need to step up and kill off the mistakes that did us in v Bournemouth.

I hope yesterday’s Norwich won inspires us that a win is possible against anyone. Believe and don’t sit back.

Anyone know of any bars in Tokyo that will be showing this?
Failing that, any way to watch on TV here?
Thankyou

At that time in the morning, mate (4am kick off), you'll be struggling to find anywhere, unfortunately.

I'd just download Mobdro if you have Android, or subscribe to DAZN. Or  hesgoal.com
That’s about it however depends on which hotel you are staying in? If it’s an American chain such as Hyatt or Marriott you may be lucky as room TV will have multi-national sports channels and at least one will be showing EPL live game. Games on Friday and Saturday can be caught in bars even in the early hours.

That's true. If I was in Tokyo, you could also come and watch it in my house! But sadly, I'm away until next week.

I agree. To stay up, we'll need to be winning our home games, in the main regardless of opposition.

2-1 Villa, we have to start winning these home games, a draw would do, as in another point on the board, not even thinking about losing this.

We have 'started winning these home games'. 2-0 against Everton.

No way can we be happy with a point at home to West Ham. They are bang average especially away from home. If you accept that every away game in the Premier League is a potential banana skin and home games against the top sides will be hard to win then if we start writing off our chances of winning at home to sides like West Ham we might as well as well just prepare for relegation right now. Home games against the likes of West Ham, Newcastle, Brighton, Burnley, Norwich, Sheffield United and Palace are games where we have to be taking three points.

I think we may struggle and possibly lose, but hope I’m wrong.

I’ve kind of gone full circle in my thinking of how we will do this season. Started off thinking we’d finish round about 17th, then was thinking 10/11th. Now I’m back thinking we’ll be on struggle st.

It'll be tough (they all are) and while there's no reason why we shouldn't beat these, I'll go for a 2-2 draw. Grealish and Big Wes with ours.

As others have said, and also on the West Ham forum
"What could be worse than Mike Dean...???

Mike Dean with VAR... "

So the only team that likes Dean is Spurs.

Generally I dont mind West Ham, its just Karren Brady who constantly moans about, well everything, including how they are being hard done by the deal they have at the "London Stadium" (the least thought gone into a stadium name)

Anyway 3-1 to us.  :D

Since Mike Dean’s goal celebration at Spurs, I seem to remember he’s refereed us a couple of times and been very good ( although he may have just appeared to be semi competent in comparison with the Championship Refs we were used to).

Come on you Villa boys! 3 points please would be massive.
After the debacle of kn-bhead Friend, the ref and VAR will be under intense scrutiny tonight, especially from Villa fans.
Welcome back Snoddy but I hope you're on the losing side. Let's keep Villa Park rocking! UTV!

I would like to see a slight change in the way we set up. 4-2-3-1 would suit what we have at the moment:

                    Heaton
Guilbert  Engels    Mings   Taylor

           Luiz   Hourihane

  Jota      Grealish       McGinn

             Wesley

Think we need to support the likes of Luiz in front of our defence

Tempted to go

                            Heaton

Guilbert         Engels       Mings       Taylor

                   Luiz              Hourihane

Jota                     McGinn                 Jack

                           Wesley

subs

Steer
Konsa
Hause
Marvellous (if we need to close game down)
AEG  (If we need to open them up wide)
Trez                       "
Davis

Excellent choice, squire

When did the man of the match from our last home game become "not very good"?

In the absence of Trez then I would add Lansbury into the sqaud

A few days after the first game of the season I had a dream about this game.

I rarely dream about Villa and it's even rarer that I dream about a scoreline.

But in my dream Villa beat West Ham 4-2 and McGinn scored one of the goals.

So I now have separate bets on McGinn and the exact score.

Do me proud lads!

I hope the crowd are up for it again tonight. The players really need them as they go through this adaption phase. West Ham are on a very decent run but so were Everton. FTF.
