Outside of maybe Targett for Taylor (who in fairness hasn't done a lot wrong) that's pretty much what most of us would have gone with
-
Happy with that. Guilbert should offer more coming forward than Elmo and AEG hasn't impressed so far.

Looking forward to seeing Guilbert play, shame the spitting scouser is doing some of the punditry.
-

I think we will find Jota playing a lot closer to Wesley inside right with Freddie overlapping as a proper wing back
-
I thought you'd been banned from starting Match Threads, TV?
Happy to see Guilbert in and El Ghazi out. Would have preferred to see Conor start but at least Trez gets to play on his favoured left side. Jota needs to produce his pre-season form.

I was thinking I should ban myself. My PL record is almost as bad as Jack's...
-
Elmo gets punished for earning a new contract!
-
Smith admitting that El Ghazi isn't performing in the final third of the pitch, that's why he's been dropped.
-
Jota looked good with Guilbert pre season , could be a reason to start Jota
-
Hardly punished. He just hasn’t offered anything going forward.
-
Everton fans are not too happy with their team selection. Let's get a few goals before they bring on Kean. Saying that, Bournemouth had half the team out last week..
We need 3 points today. FTF

Should hopefully take a bit of the pressure off Jack to create centrally too

is michael that good?
-
Guilbert - good.
Taylor - I suppose he's done enough to warrant it.
Jota - needs to step up now. Cameos have been poor.
-
What's the score regarding Taylor and Coleman, no bad blood I hope?
-
Jota looked good with Guilbert pre season , could be a reason to start Jota
It possibly is the reason, though Jota has done nothing to deserve a start based on his first two appearances . Looking forward to seeing Guilbert though it's concerning that Targett hasn't yet got a start ahead of Taylor.
Midfield/attack looks quite unbalanced , definitely think we need two sitting midfielders so would have had Hourihane in for that reason alone.
-
everyone said 2 1 on sky
2-1 it is then

yep Id have had conor for EGZ . Im happy with Guilberto thou
-
Feeling really nervous about this game, god knows why but it feels a bit like a must win now.
Glad Guilbert has come in, not so sure about Jota but good he is being given a go as AEG needed dropping, come on you Villa boys get us a win tonight!
-
What's the score regarding Taylor and Coleman, no bad blood I hope?
wouldnt be surprised to see a collision or two between them tonight
granted im biased....but thought it was an awful tackle from Taylor that night
-
Mings gone down injured in warm up having treatment
-
Mings might be out!
-
so Mings got an injury?
-
ffs nnnoooooooooooo
-
That would mean a debut for Konsa then presumably?
-
Groin
-
Keeps touching his groin, doesn’t look too promising
-
This is a nightmare.
-
That would be some bad bad news.
-
Did he not get a whack in the bollocks from a ball?
-
Let’s hope it’s a whack from a ball vs a groin strain. Because that would be massively fucking shit
-
I think he'll start.
-
Keeps touching his groin, doesn’t look too promising
I keep touching my knob and that looks promising . so maybe he might be ok
-
He’s starting
-
Sky confirm Mings starting
-
hes fit to start
-
hes fit to start
Thank God
-
Let’s hope its just a Hans Moleman moment
-
Neville G bigging up Villa Park on Sky. His favourite ground other than Old Trafford apparently.
-
Sounds like a great atmosphere tonight. UTV!
-
What we dont want is to concede early.
-
What we dont want is to concede early.
Or at all
-
Just tuned in and already is clear the ref is a c**t.
-
Neville G bigging up Villa Park on Sky. His favourite ground other than Old Trafford apparently.
Probably because they always fucking won here.

Yup. Be better if they all fucking hated the place
-
Good block by Tyrone
-
Wesley needs to start winning the ball from time to time.
-
Wesley needs to start winning the ball from time to time.
Yep not a great start for him
-
Wesley doesn't look good enough to play the role Smith wants him to, unfortunately. The ball doesn't stick to him.
-
Struggling to see where a Villa goal might come from.
-

Big problem tactically already with only Luiz in the middle and struggling. Jota miles off pace and not only one
-
We look at bit lost to me. We haven't really had the ball yet.
-
Wes is like a poor Heskey.
-
Jota looks incredibly lightweight.
Wesley can't hold the ball up for shit.
Guilbert, I like, but is on a yellow which isn't ideal.
Grealish and Trez not involved.
-
All Everton.
-
Patience Please
-
Poor from Everton to get about seventy players back and spoil our attack.
-
I don't understand why we're playing so many long balls when our midfield is so strong.
-
I don't understand why we're playing so many long balls when our midfield is so strong.
They all look well of the pace to me so far with the exception of jack.
-
Wesley!!!!
-
Wesley!!!
-
Fuck yes Wes!
-
You fucking beauty
-
Yesssss
-
WEEEEESSSSEEEEELIIIINNOOOOO!!!
-
Patience Please
😘
-
YES! WESSSSSLLLLEEEEYYYYYYYY
-
Keep it on the floor lads. Tis a simple game
-
Wes is like a poor Heskey.
Get in!!!! Ha ha.
-
Lovely ball from Jota that was
-
Said it was just a matter of time...
-
Well worked. Fine finish
-
Our forward line is moving it now. Beautiful to watch.
-
Hahaha fucking get in! Fair play Wes!
-
By the time my stream gets back it’ll be half-time.
-
Jota looking good!
-
That is exactly what we were seeing in pre season. Fucking brilliant vision from Jota and great run from Wes and finish. But a word for Freddie who took a defender with him. Everton know they now have to account for him too. Super team goal.
-
Amazing what confidence can do eh. Truly is the fucking x-factor in any sport.
-
One of these days we are gonna give someone a thrashing.
-
Big Wes 8)
-
We looks better running into the channels than being a target man.
-
Holy sheeet Villa Park sounds amazing!
-
Jota with the assist.
-
Jota with the assist.
Superb ball. Just needs to be stronger and more physical. Otherwise he is growing into the gane
-
The good thing about that goal was that it wasn't about speed or strength, just a good pass, well read and well finished. Fuck yeah.
-
We won't get away with many more of them. We need to get back on the ball a bit.
-
Not getting a lot of this referee. Well, except when we don't want a free kick...
-
Wes improving
-
Wes improving
Probably because as we aren't lumping it to him as we were for first 20 mins.
-
Yellow?
-
Crowd brilliant tonight.
-
Engels looks like genuine class.
-
Crowd brilliant tonight.
Sounds superb through the Tele.
-
Loving the look of Jota.
-
This is a very likable Villa team.
-
Looking the better side now.
-
This is a very likable Villa team.
Absolutely agree.
-
This is a very likable Villa team.
They're certainly growing on me!
-
This is a very likable Villa team.
So true. First time we've been likeable for us (nevermind for neutrals) in ages!
-
It's taken near enough ten years but it feels like we're all pulling in the same direction. Fans, players, coaching staff, owners. Just a feeling of unity and freshness.
-
How ace was that?!!
-
We really grew into the game that half. Bossing it by the end
-
Jota is a very sensible smart player that uses what he has to get a lot out of. Sometimes it's just all about the little things.
-

-
Well done Villa. A tentative start, but they started to improve just before the goal, and now they're playing with real confidence. Another goal early in the second half would be nice.
-
Need to focus hard in the second half. Everton are still getting to the ball quicker.
Some lovely moves from us, though. We’re definitely not a park the bus side.
-
I think Engels and Mings are already my favourite central defensive pairing since Teale and God.
-
Slightly iffy start but after that we've made Everton look mediocre. Jota's been lively, Jack's coming into it more and more, Guilbert gets forward a lot. Good stuff.
-
I enjoyed that, some real quality performances all round that half. The later stages we really started to see a Dean Smith team.
-
Interesting stat from the BBC website: Excluding own-goals, none of Aston Villa's first 1,079 goals in the Premier League were scored by Brazilians.
Their last two have been scored by Brazilian players (Douglas Luiz & Wesley).
-
I think Engels and Mings are already my favourite central defensive pairing since Teale and God.
I was thinking the same. Or possibly Mellberg and Laursen
-
First 20mins were genuinely awful. After the goal we have been transformed and looking likely to get a second. Thought Trez was anonymous but last 5mins he started to find some space in behind. My main moan is Mings, his distribution has been James Collins esque.
Everton bound to make changes at the break, their midfield two have been hopeless. I'd expect Iwobi will come on at the break and they will go two up top.
-
no matter what the result we don't look out of place in this league
-
Looked a lot better after the goal, we look dangerous on the break. The commentator was saying as the half time whistle went " he's been criticised for his performances in the first two games has scored" utter bollocks. Haven't heard any criticism at all of Wesley from either fans or so called pundits.
-
Jota and Engels different class.
Luiz been quiet, quickly closed down. this has resulted in Mings playing some pointless long balls.
Wesley will be great if we play football. good hold up play as well.
-
Guilbert a different at the right back. Jota does sometimes strange things though. Mings & Engels are the new Mellberg & Laursen.
Whats the attendence?
-

Smith was responding to criticism of Wes during the week anyway. Goals bring confidence , he has been beating up Mina since
-
Nervy, but we grew into that.
Come on Villa!

I genuinely think it's the centre-halves getting used to him - like a lot of Brazilians and technical players, he's actually comfortable having the ball played to him under pressure (or appears to be), it's just our centre-halves don't want to put him under that pressure. They're not giving it to him, even when he wants it. I think that'll come with time.
Like you, would prefer few long balls from Mings, and would like to see a few more options for him in the second half when he has time on the ball (which is happening a reasonable amount). With Luiz, Jack and SJM in front of him, I would hope the long ball is a rarer last resort second half.

Bloody strange, since first time ever we had Brazilians playing for us

yeah, that's what I thought - but still, for the last two goals to be by Brazilians anyway ...
-
Iwobi, Kean and Walcott all warming up, I wonder if Silva will bring all 3 on at once to give us pace to worry about.
-
Very nervous watching this.
Anyone fancy going to Off Topic for an argument?
-
no matter what the result we don't look out of place in this league
I know that you mean, but we need a result too. No good having Albionesque moral victories.
-
Everton have failed to come from behind at HT to win a PL game since September 2015 at West Brom (W0 D5 L33 since)
-
Very nervous watching this.
Anyone fancy going to Off Topic for an argument?
The five minute argument or the full half hour?
-
Gomes is having a shocker for Everton tonight, long may it continue.
-
Very nervous watching this.
Anyone fancy going to Off Topic for an argument?
I would but I agree with you about everything.
-
That Paul Weller isn't half overrated... 😉
-
McGinn looks a little quiet. Not really been able to get him into the game so far. Otherwise MF looks better and better as the minutes go by

Punditry. The art of stating the bleeding obvious.

-
Is Gomes ever going to get booked?
-
Iwobi on for Gylfi, Kean on for Bernard
-
Is Gomes ever going to get booked?
When it's too late to matter I'd expect.
-
Neither of our wide men have made any impact since half time. Time for a change
-
Jota...... Does all the hard stuff...
-
I do enjoy watching Jota play.
-
Jota...... Does all the hard stuff...
The simple ones not so good (or the short passes)
-
Need to get hold of the ball a bit more, otherwise the pressure will just build and build.
-
We've got back to being not good enough on the ball.
-
Need to get hold of the ball a bit more, otherwise the pressure will just build and build.
Yeah, don't think we are good enough yet to withstand onslaught
-
We’ve dropped awfully deep again.
-
The villa way to me is being shit a throw ins
-
Loads of empty seats
-
Fuck off Taylor WTF was that?
-
Taylor is like jesus, afraid of crosses
-
That is fucking shit from Taylor. He had loads of time
-
The most Neil Taylor thing of all time.
-
Taylor can defend, but let's hope we see Targett soon. Full backs need to be complete footballers.
-
Come on Jack. Need a better pass
-
14/1 if anyone fancies a walnuts special...
-
14/1 if anyone fancies a walnuts special...
?
-
They don’t want to pass it to Luis.
-
Panic mode
-
AEG coming on for Jota.
The one downside is 35%, 1 shot on target and 0 corners.
-
Surprised it's Jota that has come off and not Trez
-
We need another goal.
-
Need to win the game from here now.
-
Fucking shoot Jack!!!!!
-
Superb Freddie
-
Everton hit the post

-
14/1 if anyone fancies a walnuts special...

Stick some cash on Villa to lose at long odds when they're winning to cushion the blow.
35/1 now.
-
Why is Wes offside there?
-
Walcott fucks up
-
Am i the only one that is nervous?
-
Walcott fucks up
What has he done to his hair?

Well done Wesley!
