Being critical, I wonder, if our 2 full backs had been new signings, would they have been included in the Mings, Engels, Heaton bracket of positives?

We'll always be bigger than them. They are just better than us at the moment. Form is temporary. Class is permanent.

It is indeed frustrating to think that only a few years ago we were bigger and better than spurs.
We can beat ourselves up over that, or we can accept that they've gone way ahead of others at that level - Everton, Newcastle, even Arsenal and Manchester United. They've done well but they've also been lucky.

It's not games against the likes of spurs that will define our season more so our next 3 league opponents. 7 out 9 points and we really will have a spring in our feet, 5 points slightly edgy,anything less then the famous Villa fickle support will be more than sqeeking

Right place, right time. Being media darlings when football exploded, in London when it became so wealthy they could charge whatever they liked, being able to challenge for the top four at a time when it wasn't set in stone, getting £85 million for a player they were ready to offload to Small Heath for pennies four years earlier. They've done a lot of things right, but they've also had the ball bounce for them a few times.

There's not really any luck involved in being in the same place you have always been and it was only ever an offer to loan Bale according to McLeish.

Certainly in the right place at the right time as were many other clubs. They succeeded where we and many others failed. Hopefully our time will come again.

This thing about them now towering above us. The superiority is largely bricks and mortar. They have borrowed heavily and built a magnificent stadium. Man City are a better performing team and they live in a council house. The Kit Stealers blagged a better home courtesy of Boris Johnson, the Porno Dwarfs and Karren Brady. It is like looking down your street and admiring the house and car of the neighbour who is a stockbroker. It does not make the worth of the schoolteacher who rides a bike to work any less. It is what you are not what you have.
What really matters is what you do out there on the field. That is how your worth in the game is measured. Tottenham are superior to us presently. Superior performers. They are superior to most clubs on the field. But that comes and goes. Today's king of the castle is tomorrow's dirty rascal.
Sometimes the fur coat is removed to reveal no knickers.

Spurs are lucky to have Pochetino. Before him they were good, but not that good, probably about where Arsenal are now. If he'd gone to Real Madrid I'm not sure they'd be as good again. That said, they went for him and got him, so fair play to them.

So where's the luck? They wanted him as they thought he was good, they got him, he's good, zero luck involved imo.

They appointed well in Pochettino, and then had one of the best forwards in Europe come through their youth ranks. Not sure any of that can really be ascribed to luck.

I have a feeling Pochettino will move on next summer if the right job comes up particularly if they don’t win any honours this season. He was clearly agitated and frustrated during preseason so wouldn’t be surprised if he jumped ship soon.
