Garbage. But we're through. They all need a rocket up them before the final.
-
I’m fucking delighted. Only caught the last bit as I’ve been fishing in Florida so thanks to all of you boys keeping me updated.
-
FTA! Allez Allez Allez!
-
Utterly shit all game. Amazing ending. UTV and FTA.
-
Wembley here we come. That’s all that matters
-
I only care that we won. Get the fuck in and fuck off you boring negative stripey twats.
-
Never doubted them for a minute.
-
No doubt Radio WM will award the Olbiyun the moral victory.
-
Utterly wretched performance, dismal spectacle. Fuckin dreamland!
-
Can't believe we didnt score given the circumstances, but god almighty we're through.
-
Terrible, terrible performance, shit all over the pitch. But....we're going to Wembley!!!!
-
No doubt Radio WM will award the Olbiyun the moral victory.
They can have it, because it's worthless.
-
Extra time was bizarre, like an attackers v defenders training session.
-
Terrible, terrible performance, shit all over the pitch. But....we're going to Wembley!!!!
It’s written in the stars, this run has to end in promotion.
-
I hate penalty shootouts... except when we beat the Albion to take us to Wembley!!
Fkrs fkd!!
UTV
-
If there is one thing - one thing - you can say that Villa are historically good at, it's penalty shootouts. When was the last time we lost one?
But the match: yeeuch, that looked like Lambertball for a lot of the time. We do seem to be too easily put off our game when we are in these lower league grounds with noisy atmospheres.
-
This final is going to be massive, more so after that, Leeds will have a really hard game tomorrow night, all in all we did it, Wembley here we come.
-
FUCKIN HAVE IT!!!!!!!
-
Dross, utter dross, but winning dross and that's all that counts.
Cometh the hour cometh the Jed.
-
They tried to shithouse their way to to the final but you always run the risk of bookings by doing it and the red killed them. The first 2 penalties they took looked like you'd expect from a team that was knackered from chasing us for the last 45 minutes.
-

Wimbledon in the FA Cup?
-
My heart. My fucking heart!
Worst performance for months. But fuck it, it's behind us now and if we turn up at Wembley, we can do this.
And as an admittedly petty bonus, we've made sure the dirty cheating stripeys stay in this tinpot division for another season. The shithouses.
-
No doubt Radio WM will award the Olbiyun the moral victory.
They've already done so! :D
-
Those two matches are our shit half of the playoffs
-
Utterly shit all game. Amazing ending. UTV and FTA.
This. With bells on.
We go again: TO WEMBERLEEEEEEY!
-
Hideous game but on the whole we've done very well to be one game away from promotion... again.
-
Posted on the match thread I hated penalty shoot-outs - unless they're against Tranmere. Or Inter. Add fucktheAlbion to the list!
-
Good lord. We were pretty awful, and we’re through. It’s added about 20 years to my life, but we’re through. Come on!
-
Hopefully that's the bad performance out of the way. Just under a fortnight to get our shit together because we can really do without another Wembley no-show.
-
Fucking hell we got away with that. Thank fuck for that. Please be much much better.
-
Absolutely proud of Aston Villa tonight. On March 2nd we pretty much had 15 cup finals to come through if we were somehow going to go from being abysmal to being promoted, almost no one thought we would do it. We've come through 14 tough games, one more to go. The players have shown belief, heart, spirit and skill all along the way. We went 1 down tonight and could have folded, we didn't.
It wasn't a great performance, the two legs were a war of attrition but we are still standing.
Well done Villa.
-

This was the big mistake they made, kicked Jack all over the place in the first game, tried to kick us of the park in the second game, 2 sending offs, its cost them, even possibly the Premiership.
-
I think Smith has got them too relaxed. Just not enough gumption but overall we dominated.
Onwards and upwards.
-
That was horrible to watch. Far more difficult than it should have been.
Can't play like that again.
Sort it out Villa.
Thank you Jed.
-
In Barcelona, hammered, feell hideously sick, gash performance, they nullified our better players over both games but loooking at it objectively though only 1 team wanted the win over 180 miinutes.
-
We can immediately improve on that performance by not picking Taylor or Green for Wembley.
-
I'll be awake for hours now. What a horrible game and performance with a surprisingly upbeat ending. Never want to go through that again, so win it in normal time at Wembley, you bunch of bastards.
-
We got away with it.
Nice way to win but the worst sort of performance to take into a Wembley final imo.
Our attacking players going missing isn't a good sign, same happened this time last year when Grabban, Snoddy and Adomah all went off form.
Still take our chances in two weeks and hope for once we put in a really good performance in a Wembley final. We are well overdue.
-
Let’s face it, if someone had offered you the Play Off Final immediately after we lost to the Albion in February, you’d have absolutely bitten their hand off, and probably thought they were mental. Phenomenal effort lads, thank you every single one.
-
I don't think we were awful, just flat, largely because they 'Bruced' us and killed the game. How they played tonight was very similar to what we did to a few teams last season, we just had the extra quality up front (that they were missing in Gayle and Robson-Kanu) to punish teams for their mistakes.
-
As an added bonus, not only do we have the joy of winning, think just how many fans of so many other clubs are absolutely fucking devastated right now.
-
Players need to chill out, these kind of celebrations have led to our last few underperformances in finals
-
Exhausted. And wide awake.
-
If you can't enjoy getting to Wembley we may as well ban the game.
-
We can immediately improve on that performance by not picking Taylor or Green for Wembley.
No chance Green will play, he'll struggle to make the bench.
Guess it will show DS's intentions if it's Albert or Kodjia starting. Steve Bruce would pick Adomah all day long. I'd like to see Kodjia start tbh, give Leeds (I assume it will be them) something to worry about rather than playing into their hands.
-
Players need to chill out, these kind of celebrations have led to our last few underperformances in finals
The fans are loving it and will appreciate them enjoying it with them. Ha! Tyrone just piled into the crowd for some lovin'. The Tesco stewards made him fuck off back onto the pitch after ten seconds.
-
Fuck me YAAAAAAAAASSSSSSS!
-
As an added bonus, not only do we have the joy of winning, think just how many fans of so many other clubs are absolutely fucking devastated right now.
Yes, including the collection of ogres and lardarses that witnessed it in the flesh.
I hope it stays with them for a very, very long time.
-
They played a blinder crying over the first leg because Brunt should have been off 35 minutes before he was. Tonight, that played in there favour.
-
I have a total man crush on Mings. I think he may have a soft spot for the villa too by the looks of it.
-
Wow. Just seen Mings live this club. Says it all. Even if we don’t make it at Wembley we are on our way!
-
Deserved nothing but got Wembley I’ll take that
-
When Smith took over we were going nowhere. Thank you Dean and the rest of the coaching staff for what you have achieved...UTV
-
What a horrible, horrible side those hateful bloody Baggies are.
I was a relatively fit 45 year old when the match kicked off, I'm going to bed a sickly old 90 and not expecting to make it through the night.
Deano, if you're reading this please don't ever make us sit through that shite ever again. Thank you.
-
Deserved nothing but got Wembley I’ll take that
We deserve it more than fucking Albion do.
-
We can immediately improve on that performance by not picking Taylor or Green for Wembley.
Yes, these two and Adomah offered little I thought. I’d be happy to see Hause in for the final.
-
Simply marvellous , but jeezo my poor heart and would be rude not sign off without a FTA
-
That was our shit fixture. The good one will be at Wemberley. FDL!
Edit. FTA too.
-
Deserved nothing but got Wembley I’ll take that
We deserve it more than fucking Albion do.
Yes, at least we occasionally crossed the halfway line. And anyone who towels dry the ball before throw ins should be banned from football for life.
-
Loved Jedi slotting his penalty with his first touch. Fucking ice man.
-
Loved Jedi slotting his penalty with his first touch. Fucking ice man.
Almost like an NFL special team being able to bring him on there.
-
Deserved nothing but got Wembley I’ll take that
We deserve it more than fucking Albion do.
Yeh wot are you on about John e. There was only one team trying to play football there. Sure we were not at our best but look at the stats
-
WBA the architects of their own downfall.
They probably would've won 2-0 with Gayle out there. Brunt was an idiot. If they have any sense that will be his last game for them.
They ran out of penalty takers, those two and Barry and Rodriguez would've all taken one.
Still I get the feeling they'd have taken a 5-0 loss in the final just to have the glory of stopping us going up so at least we didn't stoop that low to their level although we gave it a good go.
-
Can we leave the hair shirts off until tomorrow? Tonight's about celebrating.
-
The biggest thing we can learn from that is that we barely scraped by a pisspoor, shithouse side who were a man down for 40+ minutes out of 210.
We need to buck our ideas up massively. Play like that for 90 minutes against anyone at Wembley and we'll be right back where we started. Honestly we were shocking tonight.
But get the fuck in!!!!!!!!!
-
Fuck the Albion!!!!!!
Get in. Drained.
-
Just seen Abraham's penalty again. As I thought, he did get lucky.
-
Jedi is 17 for 17 with pens for club and country. ICE MAN!
-
If there is one thing - one thing - you can say that Villa are historically good at, it's penalty shootouts. When was the last time we lost one?
West Ham in the League Cup when it didn't count?
-
Just seen Abraham's penalty again. As I thought, he did get lucky.
I'll take luck.

Deano, if you're reading this please don't ever make us sit through that shite ever again. Thank you.
Ha - Same here! I’m a gibbering wreck!
Proud of those boys.... Thought they were going to capitulate but they proved us wrong. One more to go 😬
-
There’s something very satisfying about beating them on penalties when they played for it all night and probably if they’re honest over 2 legs.
-
We won’t play like that again. At Wembley we’ll be much better
-
Loved Jedi slotting his penalty with his first touch. Fucking ice man.
Almost like an NFL special team being able to bring him on there.
It was exceptional, just grazing the inside of the post.
-
Relieved more than anything, I've lost my voice screaming at the box.
Fuck the Albion.
-
If there is one thing - one thing - you can say that Villa are historically good at, it's penalty shootouts. When was the last time we lost one?
West Ham in the League Cup when it didn't count?
I'd forgotten all about that. Omoyimni was it.
-
Villa have never left me so mentally exhausted. I knew it would be tight but f#ck me
-
Deserved nothing but got Wembley I’ll take that
We deserve it more than fucking Albion do.
Yeh wot are you on about John e. There was only one team trying to play football there. Sure we were not at our best but look at the stats
we had 40 minutes to score against 10 men
we were awful hardly troubled them
not bothered right now but I’m telling you we will have to play a million times better than that at Wembley if we are going to win
-
No denying we’re lucky to be in the final though based on those 2 performances. So many players below par.
Struggling through the semi could be a good thing in a way. House money effect kind of thing.
-
I know we didn't play great, but f**k me Albion are a dirty, cheating bunch of odious also rans. Who were helped by a weak referee, especially in the first half. And let's be honest over the two legs we were the better team.
-
Think they said we’ve won our last 5 including this one.
-
We won’t play like that again. At Wembley we’ll be much better
More importantly regardless of who we face we won't play a team with 9 men defending the box who had no attacking ambition other than to win free kicks, corners and throws in our half and lump balls into the box.
-
we had 40 minutes to score against 10 men
we were awful hardly troubled them
not bothered right now but I’m telling you we will have to play a million times better than that at Wembley if we are going to win
Which no one disagrees with, but it's a load of shite that we didn't deserve unless you think a side that no matter how many men they had on the pitch had little to no interest in venturing out their own half did deserve it.
Albion played exactly the kind of football you have said dozens of times you hate and yet now it's a style of football that deserved to win?
-
We won’t play like that again. At Wembley we’ll be much better
I said this on Saturday, I was wrong
-
Fuck Albion and their shit negative tactics
-
Not sure why but I was thinking about Jlloyd during the pens.
-
I'm a nervous wreck!! Glad we got there in the end. Well done Jed Steer and well done Villa boys! UTV!y
-
No fucking way was that lucky, we went for it over the two legs, they sat back and waited for errors or set pieces, 45 shots to 15 over the two legs, gettung rud of Moore is as fucking stupid asgettung rid if Rowett when you're in the play offs
-
I don't understand how any one can say and believe that we didn't deserve to go through to Wembley. We struggled against a defensive wall for 2 games and were the only team even trying to play football. There is a reason why they played like that in the Premier League and actually won a few games...the best sides even struggle to play against that horrible style of football. We weren't at our best and a lot of our players didn't perform to their abilities in either games...but the best team won.
-
Sky reckon McGinn was our best player over 2 legs. I thought they were the worst two games he’s had for us
-
The only side that tried to win the tie is the one going to Wembley, you don't get any more of a deserved winner than that imo.
-
Amidst all the celebrations, I hope there is a bit of recognition that we were very poor at times tonight. That said, beating them on penalties on their own patch is very satisfying.
Albion's approach was straight out of the Steve Bruce handbook and they got what they deserved.
-
Who gives a fuck about the performance we’re through and that’s all that matters.
-
Sky reckon McGinn was our best player over 2 legs. I thought they were the worst two games he’s had for us
I'd say El Ghazi was.

They put 10, then 9, men behind the ball at all times. They ended up with 26% of the possession and didnt register a shot for almost an hour. We might not have been clinical but we put 20+ shots on frame and dominated. They sat back, as always, and let the tension in the park get to us. That little dumpy shed with barely 26k seats. Albion should be reaching in the couch cushions for cash after this match. To call them a football club is a stretch. We deserved to win.
-
My favourite moment was the Jedi's pen. Just knew he wouldn't miss.
-
We weren’t brilliant but fuck me I’m not having this “deserved nothing” stuff.
Over two legs we were the only side trying to play football, had god knows how much of the possession, most of the chances etc. Yes I know stats don’t give the whole picture, yes most of our better players didn’t shine, and we looked short of ideas -but we were miles ahead of our stripey friends.
Tough two legged game against local rivals who finished above us in the league and we won.
Fuck em - fully deserved.
-
What's all this West Brom can be proud of themselves plucky losers bullshit sky are coming out with? Maybe if they hadn't spent the entirety of both legs trying to boot us off the park they wouldn't have had to play for so long with 10 men. The got what they bloody deserved.
-
Well deserved win and great to do it in front of their shit-house fans.
Yeah not our finest performance, but we played better over two legs. They didn't even attempt to play football i either leg and when that shithead Brunt got the red card it was all the deserved.
Now lets fuck Leeds (or Derby) over!!!!
Time to find a ticket to Wembley and find someone to cover my lecture in Estonia.
-
Agree hilts El Ghazi was our best player Grealish mostly neutralised and SJM looked frustrated by his own performances. Although to be fair he mucked in tonight and did a lot of unglamorous tackling, drawing fouls and tying up players.
-
Sky reckon McGinn was our best player over 2 legs. I thought they were the worst two games he’s had for us
I thought he was good tonight, not his dominant self but showed for the ball constantly and did 'a bit of a jack' in drawing fouls from people, Brunt assaulted him 3 times and there was one where Hegazi was all over him and the ref let it go which was a clear free kick on the edge of the box.
-
We were nowhere near our best. Playing two and a third games in four days against such a physical team was always going to be tough. We always looked more likely to score than them and we always looked like having more obvious penalty takers than them due to not getting any thugs sent off and not being cowards and taking our only forward off. We deserved it more than them.
The rest will do us good.
Bring on Derby/Leeds. Hmmm... need a portmanteau. Bring on Der-ty Leeds.
-
What's all this West Brom can be proud of themselves plucky losers bullshit sky are coming out with? Maybe if they hadn't spent the entirety of both legs trying to boot us off the park they wouldn't have had to play for so long with 10 men. The got what they bloody deserved.
Exactly. They can be thoroughly ashamed of the way they conducted themselves over two legs. But they won't be.
-

I agree wholeheartedly, and they can also go fuck themselves.
-
How did that pile of bollocks finish above us?
-
How did that pile of bollocks finish above us?
Because Bruce.

Well there's no point going to bed for at least another 2 hours. Anything good on netflix?

I thought McGinn was poor by his high standards on Saturday. After a slow start he was excellent tonight. His engine is ridiculous, still fighting for everything all over the pitch after 120 minutes against their Bash Street Kids tactics.
-
Premier League team last year, playing for penalties and time wasting from the 20th minute in the first leg as well as kicking lumps out of McGinn and Grealish.
FTA
-
The only side that tried to win the tie is the one going to Wembley, you don't get any more of a deserved winner than that imo.
I actually thought they played a smart game given who they had missing. Said in the pre match thread that their most likely route of scoring was through a set piece with Dawson or Hegazi getting their head on which was a tactic our lot seemed oblivious to first half.
Not trying to be an apologist for them but they had limitations and adapted pretty well to them although backfired in the end when they only really had defenders to take penalties.
-

I’m not giving Albion credit for the way they play
I thought we were very poor tonight and should have strolled it with the advantage we had but played rubbish
but I’m not going to argue, I thought we got lucky tonight because we tried to beat ourselves at times but I’m delighted we got through and will play a side who want to play more football at Wembley so should help us

Listening to Jimmy Shan I’ve a lot of time for him and Baggies should hold in to him if they had any sense. Luckily I think they will be stupid and let him go ...

She refused.
Worth a shot.

West Brom played for penalties for the whole two legs and got them. Well done them. Too bad they didn't account for the Jed-Meister! UTV
-
Listening to Jimmy Shan I’ve a lot of time for him and Baggies should hold in to him if they had any sense. Luckily I think they will be stupid and let him go ...
He’s failed to get them promoted, so from that perspective I hope he remains their manager for ever and ever.
-
Well there's no point going to bed for at least another 2 hours. Anything good on netflix?
If you've got Sky you can download the 4-2 against Blose, the 4-1 against Wolves, the 5-1 against Blose or a 4-3 against Baggies to keep yourself occupied....
-
Really like listening to Liam Rosenior on Sky (unlike that Irish ex-doghead next to him!). Very knowledgeable and articulate.... and he fucking loves the Villa! ;)
-
This season just keeps writing chapter after chapter...
-
Alarms me a bit many of our attackers have all lost form at the same time. Tammy had his poorest game for us tonight, shoulder injury seems to have knocked him a bit.
Couldn't get the ball to Jack at all and Green will struggle to make the bench for Wembley, occasion was far too much for him. El Ghazi was good although he'll need to watch Leeds winding him up in the final.
Last season Grabban, Snodgrass and Adomah all lost form in the last few weeks and were non factors in the final. Jack played his heart out but was nowhere near enough so that's my concern going forward.
-
https://twitter.com/avfcofficial/status/1128422205463961601?s=12
That helps ease the stress. It doesn’t matter. See you at Wembley lads & lasses.

-
Well it was an exciting end to our last ever league game against the Albion.
-
Over the 2 legs. It would certainly have been undeserved if one of those 2 was going to Wembley.
Possession 71% v 29%
Shots 45 v 15
On target 12 v 5
Corners 25 v 8
Fouls 13 v 24
-
My head absolutely pounds!
Very tight game. Only opened up for 10 minutes second half when we decided to play them in 4 or 5 times. They'd have never have created anything otherwise, the sub-Pulis shite.
Trying to get beyond them was very difficult. Just too slow with moving the ball when it we had to capitalise on the occasions we got behind their midfield.
Attack and defence before the sending off and then even more ridiculous after. Adomah should have scored and so should Tammy.
Very unusual feeling with the penalties. Huge saves by Steer! Tool the edge off till Albert skied it.
Fucking brilliant celebrations after!
Tammy was poor for me, I'd have taken him off. Such a bad goal to concede, but it was a foul on Mings before the throw in.
-
We were nowhere near our best over the 2 games, but we were stil head and shoulders above the shite they served up. If they'd progressed with their tactics it would have been an absolute disgrace.
-
That was pretty turgid, but we've played against tactics tonight that we're unlikely to face again in a league game until we're dominating the premier league like Man City. Every man behind the ball in and around the box, at home, when a goal puts you at Wembley? Fucking Blues.
They were at home, needed to score, and STILL parked the bus. If we are disappointed with how we played, can you IMAGINE how they must be feeling after watching that negative shite?
They were good defensively, but it's easy to be good at that when you show zero ambition at going up the other end. It was basically an attack v defence training exercise. Disappointed we didn't score, but Johnstone doesn't make that incredible save and the scoreline looks very different. Fine margins and all that...
-
I've got to go to work in 5 hours and can't sleep a wink - perfect response from McGinn, "we always make it difficult"
-
Let it be known I asked my wife if we could name our firstborn Jed.
She refused.
Worth a shot.
My son is Aston-Lee. Long story.

It's amazing with stats like that how we managed to look so inept at times. At the beginning of the second half we looked liked we'd totally gone to pieces. It reminded me of that game against Swansea when Laudrup was there and we could literally have been 4-0 down in the first 10 minutes.
-
Fuck me with the rough end of a ragman's trumpet but we made hard work of that. Play like that in the final and we are doomed to yet another season in the Championshit :(
-
We played better v Boro last year. No stage in those two games did I think we were going out so little different to tonight which turned into lottery game.
Shame last year SB was clueless in thinking we could beat Fulham the same way we did to Boro which was very naive tactic.
At least we have a few ways of playing and will need that v a likely opponent in Leeds. It's going to need all our attacking players to actually turn up for Wembley final which dosen't usually happen.
-
It's hard to attack when their holding a line in their own box with 10 players. Negative Albion ******. Fuck the Albion!
-
Leeds and Albion play on the edge scragging, fouling and playing on the break so c'mon Derby.
The right side is a problem neither Green or AA are good enough and Kodja looks lost out there. Smith frustrates me in that it was obvious Green was less than useless but he didn't sub him til late in the game. It does seem we struggle to break defensive minded teams down.
-
I did not enjoy that, until that last pen went in. Let’s face it we played pants, I know Smethwick put men behind the ball but we made so many basic errors.
That said, we are there, 2 weeks to prepare, c’mon the Villa!!!!
-
Thought Hause should have played instead of Taylor. Albion’s only threat was set pieces and Mings was a mountain at times but otherwise we lacked physicality.
Disappointed in the performance when they went to 10. We took too many touches and didnt move the ball quickly enough. I thought Davis should have come on earlier as he is the best hold up forward we have.
Plenty to think about in the final for Dean.
-
FTA. That was brilliant. And breathe.
-
Scenes https://twitter.com/i/status/1128422205463961601
Pitarch was getting seriously involved!
-
I don't give a fuck about them being negative. It's up to us to be good enough to deal with it. But the shithousing was appalling. Gayle, then Brunt and especially Johansen tonight.
-
Baggie on Talksport. Said Villa probably deserved it over 2 games.
-
I am genuinely starting to think there's an element of destiny to this - considering where we were a relatively short amount of time ago.
-
Imagine how these 2 felt at the moment. And credit to Richard Madeley for photobombing.

You're allowed one of those performances. One. We need to do the business against Leeds. I trust the coaches in place to do a weeks and a half of hard drills and shuffle through set piece scenarios after a couple days off as we need to be smarter.
Still delighted. FTF.
-
We can immediately improve on that performance by not picking Taylor or Green for Wembley.
Agreed.
-
Got there thankfully, semis are for winning so lets hope we have been saving our big display for the final
unfortunate I thought to go in 1-0 down at half time, blatant foul on Mings in lead up, but we went to pot for about 15 mins after half time where they could have buried us
simple passes from nearly all our defence were intercepted, Abraham bullied out of it on pretty much every direct ball that went up. Too often, even with the man advantage, our players ran with the ball instead of playing one/two touch football. Was infuriating.
Got there but serious problems regarding our right wing position, left back, Abraham's form and Smith himself worried me tonight with his inaction on the sideline.
If its Leeds in the final particularly, I think we need a bit more bite in the team and Hause for certain needs to come in. Would also consider McGinn moving further to the right given our problems in that position. Davis could be the surprise inclusion we need, no one knocks him around anyway.
Steer 7 - one very ropey pass that was nearly punished but made the saves that got us to Wembley
Elmo 8 - our best performer of the night, late cross into box in extra time should have been tapped home. A warrior for us I thought.
Tuanzebe 6 - some bright moments on the ball but far too physically soft as a centre back, Jay Rodrigues shouldnt be able to stop him competing for kick outs!
Mings 7 - some incredible clearances but hasnt been at his best last two games
Taylor 5 - tried hard but should have been replaced long before the end, such a poor player with the ball at his feet and somehow survived 120 mins!
Hourihane 7 - very good in first half and got on lots of ball throughout really
McGinn 6 - took the wrong option far too often tonight including some dreadful shots, bright moments as always but expected more of him tonight
Grealish 6 - got frustrated too often, hence dropping deeper which is what Albion wanted, would have expected him to control our play better after Brunt went off but didnt really step it up
Green 4 - started reasonably well but was utterly anonymous thereafter, really shouldnt have seen the second half. horribly limited technique, heavy touch
El Ghazi 6 - good battle with Holgate, kept trying to do the right thing and always a threat. Not helped in slightest by Taylor behind him
Abraham 4 - dire throughout and horribly selfish in extra time including getting in Davis way for a big chance, form is a big worry
AA 6 - better than Green, forced a brilliant save from Johnstone but guile out wide he isnt providing either
Kodjia 5 - should have been brought on a lot sooner but didnt really get involved much when he did come on
Davis 6 - late cameo but showed more in that time than Abraham or Kodjia, strong as an ox on the ball
Smith 4 - no issue with team selection bar selection of Taylor over Hause, we had enough warning of their advantage over us at set piece time on Saturday and Smith should have heeded it. Failure to make a sub until after the 70th min or a tactical change until extra time was diabolical. Rabbit in headlights stuff from our bench tonight and very lucky to have got away with it.
-
Why didn't Barry take the penalty?
We certainly like to do things the hard way.
Come on the Villa!
-
We can immediately improve on that performance by not picking Taylor or Green for Wembley.
Agreed.
There's no one else to play left back.
Look, I love Hutton, but he was culprit No. 1 at Wembley last year. Never again.

Is he even fit? If so should have started ahead of Tuanzebe for me.
-
It was never going to be easy tonight - we are Villa we don't do things that way. That said we still have found a way to win.
-
I’m not giving Albion credit for the way they play
I thought we were very poor tonight and should have strolled it with the advantage we had but played rubbish
but I’m not going to argue, I thought we got lucky tonight because we tried to beat ourselves at times but I’m delighted we got through and will play a side who want to play more football at Wembley so should help us
Over the 2 legs which of the 2 sides deserves to be going to Wembley?
thought we played well last week even in the first half
thought we were rubbish tonight
over the two it’s still Villa
-
Hause was on the bench, so must be nearly full fitness
-
I love the nonchalant reaction from Jedi when he scored his penalty.
-
Play-offs are 2/3 done.
-
Sat in car, waiting to get on M5 South. Exhausted after the penalty shoot out. We never do it easy. Walked back to car with Frank from H&V. Should be home about 3.30! Shit, who cares we got to Wembley.
-
I don't give a fuck about them being negative. It's up to us to be good enough to deal with it. But the shithousing was appalling. Gayle, then Brunt and especially Johansen tonight.
We could do with a bit of shithousing in our team. Johansen did a very effective job on Grealish over two games, if he was our player we would be delighted.
Brunt lost his head tonight though, that was no accident on McGinn before half time, should have been straight red for tackle on McGinn after half time. Braindead foul on, who was it again, yes McGinn for his second yellow. Disappointing that we couldnt put their very limited side away with a man advantage for 45 mins or more

you win Yes we deserved it
Albion deserved fuck all but that wasn’t my point
I just felt we tried to fuck it up from beginning to end
When I posted I’d gone through the ringer I was emotional and just put was I was feeling at the time
I said to my lad when Brunt got sent off , if we can’t beat 10 men now we don’t deserve to go through, well I suppose we did beat them, but it was closer than I wanted
I didn’t realise you were going to get your knickers in a twist over it to be fair so I’ll say again we deserved it more than Albion did

I called it but didn't know it'd be in the second leg, what a twat.
Have a feeling Chris Brunt will get himself sent off, he's been there forever it's bound to have turned him as rabid as Craig at the Trillion Trophy inn.

I swear to God, when Albert walked up to take his pen I turned to my wife and said:

I still can’t believe it ! Great videos from changing rooms doing the rounds on social media. Let’s make it count at Wembley
Bruce took us for a great day out
Deano will take us there to win

What's all this shite Andrews is coming out with about having sympathy for Brunt? Could be his last game for the club, he was playing with such passion etc.
No, he's a shithouse clogger who spent the entire game trying to injure McGinn and got what he bloody well deserved.
-
I can't get excited after that but the final will offer a different type of pressure and hopefully we will can cope better with that. Although he had an awful game tonight, let's hope that Mings will be fit.

I think I have sweared tonight more than I have ever sweared in my life.
I am shredded. The emotional involvement in that game is too much for any man to have to take.
BUT, we are there. Again.💥
We need to take stock over the next few days and understand what was not good tonight, but before all that we should just enjoy the result.
Oh, and FUCK THE ALBION.

Wide awake and still buzzing!
Resorted to Chamomile tea...

I wasn't, I just massively disagreed with your original post saying it was undeserved, so said so and asked how on earth we didn't deserve it. Which we're all agreed we did despite playing crap tonight.

Two games in a few days took it's toll, on both teams, both looked really leggy. We can't be that bad again...rest up, get fresh, come out all guns blazing....

Shit penalty by Albert! Kodjia should've taken the 4th!!

Can't unsee Whelan with his shirt off.
-
Pulse rate still hasn't come down much after that. It seemed worse than watching the Tranmere pens in 94.
Hats off to Jed Steer who'd had a few shaky moments. I knew Jedinak would come on but it still takes something to score a penalty with virtually your only kick.
I felt palpable relief when Brunt was sent off, as our overall performance was the poorest in a long time and then the approach against 10 wasn't great, as we lacked invention and needed a higher tempo.
I was amazed that Green started and that he stayed on for as long as he did, whilst Tammy was food and drink to their defenders tonight, but he really held his nerve at the end.
The biggest challenge is yet to come #UTV
-
Let it be known I asked my wife if we could name our firstborn Jed.

How about Albert.......maybe not.

Was sat in a meeting during extra time and penalties.heard from my brother in the USA that we were through by text. Glad I didn't see it, but now just relieved we got through.
Surely we will play aot better in the final.

I'm happy it wasn't just me, had I any inclination toward betting I could have made a killing "in game", as they say.
-
UP THE VILLA! Not great tonight but an amazing few months. Tyrone is a MONSTER, absolutely superb.
-
Jeez. Called my mom at end of 90 mins and she was telling me we’d do it. She also sensed I was drunk and told me she was turning her phone off whatever the outcome. I obviously called, it was blatantly on and we both sung “Aston Villa FC, we’re by far etc

Just got back and found. Can of hop house in the fridge what s night blimey

Albert knows it's lucky for us if somebody Richardsons a penalty in the semis.
Nailed on to win the final, now.
Plus Taylor always scores against Leeds at Wembley.
-
What a horrible watch that was but fuck it we're through. One game to go lads, let's play a lot better.
-
Very rarely comment on the post match thread but both games felt like cup matches against lower league opposition - you'd never believe that they finished above us the way the games panned out. Hourihane was strangled for their goal, and the inbred noses in the British Oak? Deary me, they must love watching the Vile on a Tuesday night.
-
We didn't play well tonight, but, we've earned that with what we've done since Febuary.
We didn't stop trying to do what we've been doing all along. Yes, we could have been quicker and sharper, but we didn't stop trying to play out, even when they'd scored and we looked a bit shaky.
Desipte the poor form we stuck to our guns, and it forced them back, forced them to chase and lunge, and pretty much the last hour was played in their half of the pitch.
That attitude, that application, and that commitment to keeping the ball and looking to attack has come from Dean Smith.
This run, the way it's been acheived has been borne out in how it's cowed the Albion, a team that's just out of the Premier League and has spent the whole season above us, have scored more goals than us, sit back on their 18 yards line and hack at us desperation, forced to rely on long throws and errors for any hope.
This is what fills me with confidence, whatever the outcome at Wembley. We're the Villa, you fucking worry about us.
-
Well we weren’t great but neither were they, they were pretty much long ball and press which we seemed to cope with fairly well until we switched off and conceded that daft goal.
To my mind we simply didn’t move the ball quick enough to move them out of their positions, but they were just as negative as the first game, they worked hard and won a lot of the physical stuff but didn’t commit numbers forward and were utter inept after the red card.
Their manager was shit, it was like the Alamo for about an hour and he couldn’t change it.
-
I can’t understand the negativity. We were an hour from going out of business last July. We then had to endure 10 or so games of Bruce ball before he was finally shown the door. Dean has come in with a lot of the same players and proved they can be coached and I haven’t enjoyed watching us play as much in years.
Which brings us to the play off legs. Bear in mind they have been relegated with a PL squad and scored over 80 goals and finished above us they have only one tactic and that’s to stick 10 behind the ball and hope to do us on a set piece. They had the chance to be more ambitious when they went 1 up tonight and instead sat back again. Unlike us against Rotherham when they went down to ten men they literally did no attacking in the last 50 or so minutes when Brunt went and yet everybody including their own supporters are praising lickle wickle plucky Albion.
Over two legs there was only one team trying to play positive attacking football and trying to win it. They tried to do us with a worse version of Pulisball and have failed. So fcuk them and a big fantastic shout out for us and our never say die attitude and bravery won through in the end.
That said, play like that against Leeds it might be a problem.
-
Overjoyed at the win, fucked off at my lack of faith meaning I booked a holiday 10 weeks ago which means I’m away for the final! I could cancel it, but it will probably mean I end up single.

It aye fair Fransky!
On the cusp of their greatest ever night at The Snorethorns, we rock up, play not great and still get to Wembley.
So Fuck The Albion!
-
It’s made me think about the word ‘deserve’ and in this context I can only think of 1 outcome where we wouldn’t deserve to win, and that would be if we had broken the laws of the game. We didn’t so I can’t see how we didn’t.
Away from home and working so will celebrate tomorrow but get in!!
I guess we’re there or thereabouts :-)
-
They were missing key players tonight. Again not trying to be an apologist for them but it does make a difference as we saw in that dire spell when Jack was injured.
Maybe I got too confident after Saturday and the Gayle red and I thought we'd go there and get a comfortable 1-1 or knick it 2-1 which would've got Leeds worried.
This needs to be a wake up call otherwise it's going to be another flat Wembley performance.
-
I'll consider the merits of our performance tomorrow, with a tough game at Wembley in mind.
Until then Sandwell can just fuck off and when you've stopped being plastic 'Noses, fuck off some more and when you claim to hate Pulis but cheer that style of play fuck off a little further, and when you gloried in the handball fuck yourselves backwards, and when you pick and choose your rivals depending on how well they're doing, fuck off to Bilston and resume your spat with Wolves, but most of all, just fuck off.
-
Im not bothered about whether we played well or not - that's all for tomorrow - we got through and that's all that matters.
The Albion can cry me a fucking river for all I care. Up the fucking Villa!!!

The negativity on here I think comes from the last 4 games where we have looked generally off the boil compared to the run beforehand. People do need to look at the bigger picture, I'd written off the season after the Baggies defeat in February.
Tonight was all about getting through no matter how.
-
3 months ago we were losing at home to Albion and were 10th, 7 points out of the playoffs having played 2 games more. I doubt any of us seriously expected to be going to Wembley so i'm really not getting worked up that we didn't play well as what we've done since that game is nothing short of stunning.
-
Wonderful that we’re through. Time to refresh legs and be ready for a very decent Leeds side. Not great tonight, but thought El-Mohamedy was absolutely superb.
-
Don't get me wrong, we've done very well to get to this point considering how it was at half time at Stoke. I just saw a few warning signs tonight that worry me for the final.
I just don't want to see anothe major opportunity to progress slip slowly through our grasp. We go up, keep Jack, sign Mings full time and have fun spending big and seeing who turns up. More difficult if we stay down another year.
There's always expectation though. Think back to last summer when we had a bit of a skeleton squad and were paying tax bills in instalments, people were still demanding play offs then (this was before we signed likes of Tammy and McGinn).
-

I agree Richard, getting through is all that mattered. However, we didn’t have enough professionalism to handle the occasion. In hindsight Whelan would have been a far better option than Conor.

Was Taylor that bad? Must admit I didn’t think so particularly. Yes in hindsight it was an overreaction to drop Whelan and he should have started.
I’d start him in the final, and if green starts I’ll be flabbergasted.
-
Dean Smith:"We deserved it, but the disappointing for me was not winning. I couldn't believe we'd lost the game. That's our first defeat since losing at Brentford in February.
Errr...Dean forgets.

Because if he had he wouldn't have had the chance to take a penalty later.

I’ve just realised we made 4 subs. Presumably teams are now allowed an additional sub in extra time. Since when has that been a thing?

I’m fuvked

I’m rather shit faced now in a haze Claret and blue ecstasy. But for god sake at Wembley, stop trying and doing those stupid corners. Just cross it in lads UTFV.
-
Utterly shit all game. Amazing ending. UTV and FTA.
These stats disagree:
Home Team West Brom Away Team Aston Villa
Possession Home 27% Away 73%
Shots Home 10 Away 24
Shots on Target Home 3 Away 6
Corners Home 4 Away 15
Fouls Home 15 Away 10

-
I am absolutely wide awake because I am frustrated at the way we played over the two games and didn't finish the fu**ers off before penalties!
But the penalties thing was brilliant, Steer the real hero, and I now have to reschedule a flight for after the final.
I am far too excited for sleep!
And, I believe!
We can do this.
Come on you Villa boys!!!
-
Hope i never have to watch Adomah taking a pen for us ever again .As he walked up to take his pen all i could think of was his bloody awful pen at Burton which was just as bad. Why he was taking one instead of Jimmy Danger i would like to know

Another emotional rollercoaster, I had a headache because my blood pressure was getting too high...I do hope we win the final a little more comfortably.
We weren't at our best, but that's a big ask when the opposition stifle the life out of the game. Albion were abysmal and the ref was a twat too. If we are to face dirty Leeds in the final we will need a very strong ref who will not tolerate the abuse they like to dish out.
My 8 year old daughter and I proudly wore our Villa shirts out to dinner tonight in Connecticut and the locals were none the wiser, but we knew :)

Fuckin roit 'n all.
Remember when they thought they were Barca under Woy "Wuh Ammah" Hodgson and used to shout hoof every time we, er, hoofed it. Look at them now.
Kicking for touch like a bunch of poncified egg-chasers and scoring from towel-assisted line-outs, the stripey slags. And in our game there earlier in the season they were playing volleyball with that cheating beardy fuck spiking the ball into the net.
They have had a player sent off in their last 3 games, and it should have been more. Fucking troglodytes.
-

Oh, Adomah. A dreadful player. But then, Green had a chance to impress, and far from took it. I'd start Kodjia in the final, and let him drift around, or play two up and have him next to/behind Tammy.
Maybe he's better as an impact sub.
Anyway, fuck the Albion!!!

The game kicked off at 3 in the morning here on the west coast of oz.
I had been up from about one as I couldn't sleep worrying about the game.
I couldn't face watching the penalties so when it started I left the room.
I knew Albion were going first though so when I heard a roar I came back in to see they had missed the first one and told myself to toughen up and see it out.
It was just an utter relief when it was over.
I made it in to work and now feeling pretty shattered.
Albion were the masters of their own downfall with their time wasting in the first leg and defensive tactics and shocking fouls on Jack and SJM in both legs.
That's why they had a man sent off in each leg.
To think that they scored more goals than us this season and played like that they got what they deserved.
Only one team really wanted to win by playing football and that was us.
I'm really not worried about who we get at Wembley as long as we turn up this time.
UTV PS....FTA

And, what are the negatives? ;)

The way they’re hailing their performance you’d think they were a non league team who’d taken Man City down to the wire.

In case you wanted it to be any sweeter
Shan was a part of the coaching staff at childhood club Birmingham City
Now it makes why they sacked Villa fan Darren Moore.

Never underestimate the Bitters ability to weave dollops of sanctimony, injustice and faux valiance into any post Villa game discussion. They're just a more aloof Blose.

The problem with us playing 10 is we didn't make it count in wide positions as Taylor is useless in the final third so did support Al-Ghazi and both Green and Adoma offered nothing .
Right side is a big concern as we keep alternating between Green and Aldomah and never can stake a claim .Kodjia would be better offensively but you worry at his tracking back ..tough situation for Smith
-
After a restless sleep I want to offer my honest view on what I saw last night, based on the emotional wringer that we were put through.
Steer - 7/10 - in the normal game didn’t have much to do but that period of brain dead distribution for 15 mins in the second half was ridiculous.
However, 10/10 in the penalty shootout for obvious reasons.
Elmo - 7.5 - worked tirelessly up and down the pitch, but could have offered more quality in the final third.
Taylor - 7 - again worked hard but doesn’t offer a lot going forward.
Mings - 9 - imperious and the back and worked like a Trojan to get us up the field. Very unlucky in the build up to their goal.
Axel - 8 - solid at the back. Did what he needed to do to keep ticking us over and moving the ball out without really being troubled.
McGinn - 8 - took a long while to get into the game. Got better and better as the game went on.
Hourihane- 9- did what he normally does but better. Was massively fouled during their goal.
Jack - 8.5 - gave everything. Involved in everything.
El Ghazi - 7 - saw a lot of the ball but because of their 10 man defence found it difficult to create any space for himself or deliver any real quality.
Tammy - 6.5 - poor showing from Tammy, was crowded out for much of the game and suffered with poor service into him.
Green - 2 - I’m going to be really harsh here. He offered nothing. Was a passenger the whole time he was on. The game was far,far too big for him.
Adomah - 6 - added a lot more than Green. Should have scored but credit to their goalie who made a great save. Piss poor penalty.
Kodjia - 5 - not really involved after he came on.
Jedinak - 10 - 1 touch, 1 goal, 1 stare that scare the shit out of me.
Deano - 7.5 - please dont select Green to start another game but thank you for getting us into this position and let’s finish the job.
Reading back It looks like I’m being negative. I’m not, far from it.
I am over the moon and all that.
A lot of our ineffectiveness came from the fact we were playing against a team who were totally negative and had 11 (10) men behind the ball for most of the game.
Most teams would struggle to break down that sort of set up.
And the fact they still resort to tactics from the dark ages, like having towels strategically placed so they can dry the ball to Chuck in long throws shows they can’t escape the Pullis mentality.
Fuck the Albion. Fuck their fouling and their cheating, and fuck the Albion again.
-
Happy, happy, happy. The great thing though is that our management team will have learned a lot from that performance and move it on again. Well done everyone.
-
Fucked the Albion!
-
We did it how I thought we would, the bloody hard way. It wasn't for the lack of trying once Brunt went off though. I thought we were poor overall, some of our passing was very sloppy and we could have easily gifted them a couple of goals. They had us rattled early in that second half. I couldn't watch the penalties because i'm an absolute wuss. When I walked back in the main bar of the club i was in after the pens, most of the Albion fans who had been in there had gone. Oh how we laughed.
-
In the final I'd play El Ghazi on the right and Kodjia wide left. Also bring in Hause for Taylor. Kodjia will certainly offer more than Green.
-

I’d offer more than Green and I’m a 54 year old fat twat.
-
well the biggest game facing us since...last May. Dean needs to shake the formation up - Green can't play and I'd also drop Taylor for Hause. Maybe two up top too.
-
It was disappointing to concede in the manner that we did, long throws should be treated as corners and if we had someone on the posts the ball wouldn't have crept in.
We didn't look at the races again, but I felt that we'd just about weathered that awful 15 minutes or so in the second half, when we appeared to be willing to give Sandwell a goal, when Brunt got sent off and I think the tide turned then and our belief started to return. If Sandwell had shown just a modicum of ambition over the two games, instead of trying to "Pullis" the tie they may well have prevailed, such was our poor play at times.
But I'll leave the last word to my Albion supporting Brother In Law with whom I watched the match (and a rarity of a fair minded fan):
"Why did we play for penalties when we're so shit at penalties?"
Arf!
-
The game kicked off at 3 in the morning here on the west coast of oz.
I did exactly the same my eldest who lives next door came round and wanted to know why I wasn't watching he told me Villa had won, i had the game on pause so i went back and watched the penalties with a smile on my face.

I'm going to stick my neck out here, and say there's a fair possibility of the first thing happening, much less than that of the second, and "hell freezing over" for the third.

Both our wide players were very poor last night. It made the game the stalemate it turned out to be because we found it hard to stretch them at the back where there seemed to be about 14 of the fuckers camped around their box. Their goal was a joke. At first glance i thought it was a fair shoulder to shoulder challenge. Replays showed the truth. The cheating shithouse JRod should of been carded for that challenge. Then Pulisball reared it's ugly head with a throw in that we defended like schoolboys. And surely we set a record for the amount of backpasses to oue keeper? Overall a strange niggly affair that will no doubt see the Bitters claim a moral victory. Jed Steer stepped up to the plate and we grabbed the advantage in the shoot out. Fair play to him. They tried to intimidate us on and off the pitch and failed miserably. The cream really does rise to the top eventually. For all their shithousery they failed and that is such a sweet to be able to say. Wembley awaits us. Smethwick awaits them. FTA.
-
They were organised, disciplined and aggressive over both games. It was designed to frustrate and stifle our better players and worked to a large extent. Ultimately it backfired as three sendings off in their final three games was part of their undoing. It shows how far we have come though as it’s the type of game we would have probably lost a few months ago but this team will not be bullied.
-
I was surprised how poor West Brom were and, like others, disappointed that we didn’t play well enough to win easily. That said, they only scored in the first leg due to a mistake by Whelan and in this leg they only got one after the foul on Mings was ignored. Also, Brunt should have been off at half time. We need to learn, take a deep breath and move on. Jack and McGinn played below their usual standard and were still two of the best players on the pitch. If our team turn up at the final we will win.
-
Just a word for Jedi. Hardly plays all season but is professional enough to stay fit and step in and do a great job when Mings and Hause we’re out a few weeks ago.
Then last night steps up cool as a cucumber and scores a pen with his first kick of the game. Probably his last contribution to the club and if it is what a great way to sign off. He’s been a good servant during his time with us. Cheers Jedi.
-
We have to take the last two games as a wake-up for wembley. Yes wba did what they do when they are deperate (kick the player if you cant kick the ball) and they defended well when down to 10, but we still should have scored before the pens. Steer did his job.
We have to be able to play better against ( I assume ) Leeds.
-
Good job there was no away goals rule in it. they were poor and we weren't much better considering how much possession we had - but - job done!!....

The other good thing is that McGuinn got through both games without getting booked and I was wondering if that might have been on his mind and affected his performances?
-
Albion’s attempt at creating an atmosphere....blue and white plastic flags. What a tin pot club.
-
Tuanzebe just gets better every match. From an awkward full back into an imperious center back. Shame there’s no hope of keeping him permanently.
A few didn’t play their best but we’re there. Let’s beat Derby in the sunshine at Wembley!

Slight caption error on ITV's Good Morning Britain reads:
"Champions League: Aston Villa beat West Bromwich Albion 4-3"
Ha. Perhaps one day, gentlemen.
-
Whilst I don't think we played particularly well, Albion only forced Steer in to one save that I can remember? And that was straight at him. We had the majority of the ball and had the better chances whether Albion were down to 10 men or not.
-
I thought their tactics over the two legs very nearly worked.
Having said that, though, such fucking rank gamesmanship, clogging and negativity. Pulis really did leave his mark on that team.
Remember when they used to drone on to all and sundry about playing the game the right way? Not much of that in evidence in this semi final.
-
Surely they'll never criticise Stoke again after seventy minutes time-wasting in the first leg, endless towel nonsense and scoring from a long throw with their only attempt on goal, putting ten men behind the ball for the whole of extra time AT HOME, combined with tactics that would've seemed over the top in "Platoon".
-
Well, I thought our players looked clueless at times and downright nerve-wracked at times. Some of our decision-making was awful, the lack of pace worrying and it was a game that shredded my nerves.
There's a lot of work to do before wembley, and even more to do if we win there.
As for the Bitters: what a fookin shower of shite.
And the moral outrage oozing off some of the social media sites is laughable - jeez, I'm glad I became a Villa fan: to be either of the other obvious options would have been unbearable.
-
Albert seems to have lost his mojo completely. No point being a winger if you turn towards your own full back all the time.
Our inability to threaten out wide meant we kept trying to find space through the middle where Albion were strongest. It was tough to watch at times but all’s well in the end.
-
What a lovely sunny morning !
-
Why didn’t hourihane take the free kick?
Because if he had he wouldn't have had the chance to take a penalty later.
I let out several rather naughty words when Tammy strolled up and skied that FK!
-
we did a job. and im quite shattered after last nights activities , well done to all
-
Whatever Jed Steer does the rest of his career, he'll always be remembered by Villa fans for the 2 saves, superb efforts. Don't know, but probably the only Villa keeper to save 2 pens in a shootout, think Guzan may have saved one going back a few years.
My biggest concern is Tammy's form, poor again last night, although had little service, he even managed to nearly cock up the penalty. Hopefully between now and the final, we will be working on our crosses, the only decent one I can remember was SJM's to Davis, 3 minutes from the end of extra time. Even though he was not at his best, one thing SJM never does is hide.
Thinking positively, confident if SJM, Jack and Tammy are at their best then we will win on the 27th.

Whilst on the train to work. Chick sitting next to me
Must have thought I was a bit strange in my muted celebrations each time we scored / they missed! I was shaking like a shitting dog for about 10 mins after the winner went in!
Just started a new job and there’s a dirty Leeds fan there who likes to have a bit of banter. He’s alright as it goes. But it’s clear (assuming they go through) that he’d have preferred Albion in the final. I didn’t let on, but i’d Prefer Derby to Leeds.
Last couple of days have just been a big stress ahead of it. Beating them on penalties after they’d won the match and had to play 120 mins was pretty sweet. I wonder how many would have relished that scenario at K.O?

Elmohamady is the same on that side as well. Gets in 1-v-1 situations with opponents, but turns back pretty much every time. Thought Green really struggled last night and our general attacking play in wide areas has been pretty poor for a while now.
-
What a lovely sunny morning !
Isn't it just ALITA. Blazing sunshine blossom all around and birds are singing except for the Throstles. They seem to have disappeared may be due to embarrassment of being part of a certain badge.
-
We’ve been crap at throw-ins for years, but rather that than towels FFS.
File under “never” alongside drums and music after a goal.
-
Can't wait for the Albion excuses to come rolling out over the next few days. My money is on "we would have won if it would have been away goals" appearing at some point.
In reality, they only have the stupidity of their own players (3 red cards in 3 games) and their manager's lack of ambition to blame.
-
Let it be known I asked my wife if we could name our firstborn Jed.
She refused.
Worth a shot.
He would save it!
-
Just a couple of things.
Taylor was solid defensively, which is his primary role. That he couldn't effect any change up front makes him no different to our attacking players. He looks lost up there yes, but that doesn't mean he's shit. He'll be fine in the Final.
We found it really hard to play through 9 and sometimes 10 players. It's a bit if a worry but we prevailed in the end.
They had no ambition at all other than trying to stifle and foul us.
We had more of everything bar one goal last night and rightly prevailed.
How would we feel if we'd played like they did and lost? Think back 12 months for your answer.
We're different, we try and we're still developing. They played well at their stifling style but that's all they had barring towel throw-ins

I heard he has NEVER missed a penalty. He's been great for us despite his shortcomings. A true professional unlike some of the wallet fillers we have had in the past few years. We need him on the bench at Wembley just in case. Not that we will need pens to beat Derby.
-
Albion's only clear tactic was a Game of Throw-ins
-
Well there we are. They are happy they beat us over 90 mins. We are happy to be going to Wembley again. Different standards but all of us satisfied:
All i can say is think what we could have done had we a full squad to pick from.
We can blame Brunt, Gayle or HRK, but ultimately there are many incidents this season that have cost us.
The lads played their hearts out tonight and the fans were superb. We played right to the very last kick.
Gutted we didn't win, but ultimately, do you honestly think we'd have had a successful season in the PL with this squad?
Well done to JS for his efforts.
Anyway. We beat Villa, which is all we asked for.

Poor performance but correct result. I would be embarrassed if we had parked the bus at home in the second leg, there was only one team playing football over both legs and the stats confirm that. They are a dirty, cynical and boring team. Their red cards against us were totally deserved and spot on, in Gayles case, overdue. Whoever we play in the final, I'm sure, will play differently to the Baggies.
We have come a long way since they beat us at home in February, After that dross I never thought we would get near the top six, let alone the final.
The difference with this years Wembley appearance, is that I actually have faith in our team to compete and make us proud, unlike last year, under Bruce, where it was more fingers crossed.
Anyway see you all there on the 27th, UTV

I agree with all of that.
Their only attacking ideas were to go long behind the full backs and to aim for dead-balls or long throws around the box. Other than that, they lined up to defend, defend, defend and hope to snatch a goal. We had 74% possession, completed 747 passes to their 274 and had 24 shots to their 10.
They played to their strengths, which are to defend, which made it difficult to break them down - McGinn had two men on him every time he tried to turn. How many times did they foul him? That foul that was never given against Hegazi right on the edge of the box!
Yes we made a few mistakes, a few misplaced passes, and Green was quiet. But other than that, we made the play for vast majority of the game.

I do not go with any of this unlucky losers giving it all etc. Over 2 legs, they had 2 players deservedly sent off (and both of them could have been sent off before they were), a player that bodychecked our players 3 times before he was booked and I could go on. They are a cynical and dirty side. They finished above us in the table and playing for a place in the final but played like a lower division underdog. They played for penalties and failed when they got there. They were losers in the match and in their mentality. Far from applauding their players and management, their fans should be having an inquest into how they have descended to this level.

100% agree old man.
The goodies won and the baddies were sent packing.

On another note, I thought Hourihane was superb last night. Everything went through him in the middle of the park.
-
Had an early start today and thought I could get through the 10 hour shift in the antipodes without any spoilers. I was wrong, sitting through that was pleasant if not a tad frustrating. Couldn't break those boring deadshits down.
So, my thoughts at the start of the delayed stream; finish your Liquidator, your flag waving, your booing and fuck off. My thoughts when Jedinak strode up, this is in. I'm not really sure whether there's a spot in the team for him but a part of me wishes there was after Whelan's disaster in the first leg. He's been through all this before successfully.

Something I'm sure we can all agree on - how stupid the away goals rule always was and what an excellent decision it was to get rid of it

Far from applauding their players and management, their fans should be having an inquest into how they have descended to this level.
Yet for two legs we struggled to outplay a very limited and indisciplined side. For about 15-20 mins after half time yesterday, we were bullied and to be honest looked like we had bottled it. They played to their strengths and didn't allow us to play to ours. Leeds particularly will bring a similar physical approach so we need to fight fire with fire in the final.
Enough about them, we were fortunate to go through based on our performances in the two games. We need to improve a lot frankly in the final.
-
considering we've been Crap for so long and gone through our worst time in a generation it will be my lads 4th visit to Wembley to see the Villa and he's only 11 !
took me about 40 years to clock that up
Yes indeed lucky boy. A friend, Wolves fan, texted me this morning with "Congratulations enjoy your day out". Cheeky bugger had to remind him that we have a quite a few days out there in the recent years unlike his club. This would be our 6th trip since Manure League cup final.
-
why didnt Baggie Bird take a penalty
-
It is quite odd. After 2 trips in the 90s and 2 in the 00s this will be six in the 10s. And we’ve been spectacularly gash at times in the 10s.
-
why didnt Baggie Bird take a penalty
Drumstick cruciate ligament problem.
-
why didnt Baggie Bird take a penalty
Well he was party to the on pitch team talk after 90 minutes which was the funniest moment of last night, I know the bloke who has to wear that costume every week, when I see him I shall ask why he didn't nod sagely and make it even funnier.

We’ve established that the bloke you know isn’t Gareth Barry, at least.

Errr...they finished above us and were favourites to go up automatically for a long period this season. So I think we did very well.
-
I do not go with any of this unlucky losers giving it all etc. So, as there were only two teams playing, and we were "fortunate" to go through, you must think WBA were 'unfortunate' not to go through?
You are talking bollocks.
WBA played, negative, spoiling, nasty football. They were gifted a goal at our place and would have been quite happy to defend that for the remainder of the two legs. They're shit, but even shit teams can get a result occasionally, with 10 men behind the ball.
Anyone watching the two matches could see one decent team, trying to play football, who deserved to go through, and one dirty, negative, bunch of spoilers who deserve what they got - another season guaranteed in the 2nd tier.
Villa "fortunate" my arse!

Oh almost forgot who was the absolute arsewipe on the PA? Fuck me that was annoying.

Very non-league!

For the ones on here mentioning Shan is decent:-
Albion caretaker boss Jimmy Shan told BBC Sport:
"We've been on the end of some unjust decisions over the course of the two ties but you just have to accept it.
"The momentum was with us. But for the lads to go down to 10 men again and perform they did was a credit to them.
Ok, maybe a pen in the first leg but what other unjust decisions happened to them, especially in the second leg?
-
Pretty much everything has been said with the exception of how shockingly poor the ref was last night. Yes, it was a local derby and such an important game but he had no control and allowed Albion to get away with so much. Somebody should have a word and inform him the rules have changed since the 1970s.

If it was the other way around, I'd have been fuming about not getting a penalty for the El-Ghazi handball.

The plastic flags which I've mentioned before showed their status. Tesco carrier bags would have been better than a square of white plastic or blue nowhere near resembling the Albion blue. They really are amateurs.

Evened out by the Dawson one in the 2nd half for me.
Then you had Brunt lucky not to get booked for standing on McGinn's arm, and could've seen red instead of his first yellow (it was a fucking horrible tackle).
Rodriguez was a clear foul on Mings just before they scored.
Bartley gave Tammy 3-4 2-handed shoves in the back and got away with them.
Even the El Ghazi one had Holgate give him a nudge in the back as the ball got to him, which is probably why it wasn't given.
-
Johansen could easily have been booked earlier as well.
-
There were at least two rugby tackles going on in the area as the ball came over for their goal last night.
-
What a feeling, what a night.
I watched at the Beehive in South London and it was absolutely packed with Villa fans. Great scenes when we won, took me right back to the world cup!
It sounds like the Beehive was buzzing.
-
Hegazi trying to rip McGinn's shirt off, about two feet away from the ref, who was looking directly at them.
He was fucking awful, you could almost see him trying to think of a reason not send Brunt off.
-
why didnt Baggie Bird take a penalty
He was down to be one of their first five penalty takers. But he wasn't on the pitch when the time came for pens. To be fair neither were the other four!
-

Agreed.
And they had a drum, the twats.
-
And they had a drum, the twats.
Did you see their 'Welcoming Committee' complete with drum? Let's just say Istanbul Welcome to Hell it wasn't.
-
I could be wrong, it has happened once before but I’m sure Chris C**t was on the field of play just before the penalty shoot out. Is he allowed to enter the field of play in this situation?
-
-

The thing that ground my gears was the booking for Mings for deliberate handball inthe first half (deserverdly, to the rules) but not for the Ollibyun subb who deliberately handballed late in the second half (and acknowledged by the ref with the award of a free kick).
-
Johansen could easily have been booked earlier as well.
Big time, he could!
-

Think it was "WMs finest" Richie Anderson.
-
Well there we are.
Boing boing x
Can beat that with this little sha gem on Facebook.
I'm still disgusted about that last night. For that fucking vile bunch of cheating divers, whingers and pansies to jammy that win was a travesty. A diving cheat shit of a captain with a face you'd love to smack; a fucking scumbug assistant; even bigger fucking scumbug as manager; owners who've got the EFL wrapped round their 12 fingers; and vile fans who hounded one of the nicest guys in football out and yet pathetically worship a manager whose only tactic is to con and cheat like he did at smallsall and Brentford.
The Baggies can hold their heads high this morning. They were brilliant. To a man, Midlands football is United in their admiration this morning. And we'll be United in roaring on whoever these tossers play at Wembley. Blues, baggies and Wolves together as one. #KRO #BOINGBOING #WOLVESAYWE #SOTV

Not quite as bad as that insufferable ****** at Bradford in the League Cup semi but still bloody annoying.

Something I'm sure we can all agree on - how stupid the away goals rule always was and what an excellent decision it was to get rid of it
Indeed. Particularly as one of their lot in the pub last night was not aware of them not counting. The switch from wildly celebrating in front of "Villa Corner" in the pub to the horrific realisation extra time was about to start was a joy to behold!
-
I should add, I have the mother of all hangovers. Still.
Have that you wankers!

I have no idea how many nerves there are in the human body but every one of mine were stretched to their limits last night. The tension is only just leaving them now, helped by spending the day in Galway city surrounded by gorgeous women with their barely contained breasts waving at me at every turn. Mrs S kept hers wrapped up...
Well done Villa even though you nearly saw me off last night.

Popped for a pint on the way home, met an Albion mate who was fairly philosophical, then in walks another who never mentioned his team only Villa. I grinned from ear to ear as I sent messages about arrangements for the 27th.

Yet for two legs we struggled to outplay a very limited and indisciplined side.
Errr...they finished above us and were favourites to go up automatically for a long period this season. So I think we did very well.
I strongly suspect, happy to be proven wrong, we were the strong bookies favourites to go through the tie. This would be justifiably based on our pre playoff form and the fact we have the best player in the division in our team. We were 3/10 to go through last night pre-game anyway.
We got through fair enough, but it was anything but convincing. Our performance on the pitch and sideline last night was poor/awful at times.

As well as that, I did not notice at the game but watching the recording this morning I realised after every Albion penalty, Steer went and picked the ball up and handed it to the next Villa penalty taker. Small point but it meant there was no chance of Johnstone being able to psyche out our boys or us the taker having to get distracted by going to get the ball. Small details but perhaps part of the planning?

Yep learnt that from Gareth and the England boys last summer.

Apparently, the Bitters are moaning they've been robbed because of the away goals rule not being applied as it hasn't since 1999. WTF UTV.

One said to me today that if it had been in Europe we would have been knocked out.
The Bitters in Europe!! What an imagination.

For the first time in living memory I welcomed the arrival of the Sandwell supporting window cleaner to the door, asking for his dough.
-
Looking back, we absolutely dominated. Watching the highlights back, Steer had bugger all to do until the spot kicks. The closest they came apart from the goal, when Hourihane was almost strangled by Bartley by the way, was Brunt's shot which went wide. Proud of the way they played? Not a chance. Boring, spoiling, tactless crap from WBA. I thought they were better than that.

Agree Newby, I thought they we better than that, obviously they were right, Villa fans am deluded !

Yup!

They were so brave, worked so hard, gave it their all. West Brom fans should be rightly proud of their season mixing it with the big boys.
Its not as if prior to this season they'd spent years in the Premier league. Or that they were looking likely candidates for promotion before sacking their coach and replacing him with a p.e teacher.
They're no different to Blues, sleeping giants if they win, poor brave little triers when they lose. Bless em.
-
The stats suggest we did dominate, there was a 10 minute spelling the second half when they were on top but that was it.
-
I think we did very well to hold the Pride of the Midlands to just a single goal defeat.
-
I did chuckle a little bit

This is the thing that I've found confusing ever since it looked like we would meet them in the play off semi-final. WBA really did spin it as the minnows v the millionaires, a real football team v plastic poseurs, proper fans v people who pop in when there is a chance of success. The reality over two games was that it was Villa who tried to play, Villa who refused to be intimidated (fans, players and club) and, despite all the cheating allegations from WBA since, Villa who came closest to the principles of football. I actually don't mind the Albion but this past week or so they've tarnished their self-promoted reputation as somehow being something special.

Why are we always being surprised when that lot behave like they always have? They're Small Heath with better PR.

funny!
The Leeds fan at work was very quiet today. Didn’t even realise he was there until around 3pm. I went over for a pisstake. He looked so devastated, I just did a bit of token one and left him
Alone. Plus we have yet to win the playoff- so wary of sowing what I may reap! Fuckin glad they lost though. Their fans at Wembley in 97 were absolute ******, a narrow second
To Chelsea in 2000

The Bitters in Europe!! What an imagination.
Didn't they win the UEFA Cup by beating Valencia in the final in 1978/1979?
My mistake. Apparently that was just a third round tie and they got knocked out in the next round.

I love little touches such as this. Just like bringing the Jedi on just for a pen. Shows we are switched on.
I think the public will appreciate the final with 2 pretty good footballing teams genuinely trying to play their way to the top flight.
Look at the losing semi finalists and you see indiciplined thugs who try to intimidate and bully their way through games using every cheating option open to them. In boggies case even to bore teams into submission.
This week football won

My wife was similar. She cracked up laughing to start with before feeling sorry for Holgate.
"Oh bless him, he is only about 12".
-
Jed’s hardly a scary chap either, but fair play to him and the little things like handing the ball to our next penalty taker.
-
It just all smacks of careful planning and proper preparation by all concerned, every eventuality covered. As opposed to "all I can ask of them is to roll their sleeves up and put their boots on".

Not too sure about that speaking for the public . Don't think any other manager did what the Leeds manager did when they played you last game of the season when he let you score a goal to make it 1-1 and Leeds are a decent passing team too . as the championship is a slog footballing teams doesn't always mean automatic promotion .looking forward to the final tho . think you will just have enough to beat Derby .
i do understand that WBA are one of your midland rivals and maybe they bore the public to death but they finished above you in the league . is that fair ? personally i think the play off system should be scrapped and the top 3 should go up in all divisions
-
I totally agree that it should be the top three but this system has been in place for years and all teams are fully aware of how it now works.
-
It’s completely fair. The rules of the competition as determined before the start of the season are that the top two go up automatically and the next 4 teams play off. If Albion didn’t want to run the risk of being eliminated by a team that finished below them then they should have made sure they finished first or second.
-
Bielsa also was not quite so magnanamous. Whilst it was great what he eventually did, he had Smith and Terry in his ear possibly influencing his decision.
-
It just all smacks of careful planning and proper preparation by all concerned, every eventuality covered. As opposed to "all I can ask of them is to roll their sleeves up and put their boots on".
This is why I was never happy with Bruce, everything about how he works is superficial, following the same patterns that have always done ok in the past.
I want the club to question everything, can changing the trables and chairs in the canteen make a difference, is there a best temperature for the water in the showers, can minor changes be made that cause minor performance improvements. In something like football it's harder than doing this in something like cycling (where Team GB and Team Sky have mastered the art) but any tiny improvement is worth looking at.
-
It's not perfect but the playoffs keep the league alive for the mid table teams already safe from relegation.
The top three going up automatically would probably result in clubs who are in the 6th-12th positions in March mentally already being on the beach.
-
Fuck Bielsa, they cheated and he knew it.
-
It might not be fair, but for the Albion life has been one long stream of unfairness since 1878.

Their ground is at the highest altitude of all professional teams in the UK, so they have only themselves to blame. Sandwell MP Tom Watson probably blames Corbyn, though.

Yeah whether they defend at home in a semi final with ten on the bus or eleven

As they couldn't decide they tried both options.

i surprised that haven't claimed that Jack dived to win his shoot out penalty

The top three going up automatically would probably result in clubs who are in the 6th-12th positions in March mentally already being on the beach.
Which in turn could skew the top three as whoever was playing those mid table teams towards the end of the season would have an easier game than if they'd played them earlier in the season.
Individual clubs might be unlucky on occasion but keeping the league competitive for all clubs for the whole season is a principle that's good for the league as a whole. Playoffs seem to be the best way of achieving that.
-
Bielsa also was not quite so magnanamous. Whilst it was great what he eventually did, he had Smith and Terry in his ear possibly influencing his decision.
And Bielsa has nothing to lose. They couldn’t make automatic and it would be some form of redemption for him after Spygate. Win, win for him

The only thing I would change is make the first games one-leg only so that the team finishing highest has home advantage for earning more points.

I was unexpectedly hospitalised not long after crumpetgate (serve me right, sorry pikelet aficionados, I've learned my lesson)
I was on the emergency ward for 36hrs, and my yam yam neighbour in the adjoining cubicle had fainted at work. I learned that he had a potentially lifechanging heart condition, that his missus has just had their fifth "babby", that said missus is in a different hospital with a serious sepsis infection, all dealt with and dismissed fairly briefly.
His chief cause for concern from his conversations on the phone and with visitors was the Vile, our cheating, "Greasy's" diving, our buying of the officials all season and especially during the playoffs, tayfair tayfair tayfair.
One of the symptoms of my condition was a total loss of my voice. You can imagine how delighted I was when it started to come back and I was able to gently hum the strains of allez allez allez, MOMS and other choice Villa chants.
"Is that a fucking Vilar next door? Oy ay loyan next to a fucking Vilar"
"calm it down Shane, rimimba yer heart"
🤣🤣🤣🤣

Quality. Get well soon. Including the sad bitter and his missus.

Thank you, Leeg and Clampy. I'm still in and not sure when I'll be allowed home, but his total, clichéd Bitterness cheered me immensely for a few, brief hours. I can't say that I was too sad when they moved me to a different ward, tho.

Thanks chaps. My epiglottis decided to weld itself shut and I was on the point of being unable to breathe due to the ensuing swelling.
I was admitted on Wednesday night and I was asked whether I had swallowed any foreign objects or irritated my vocal cords in any way in the last few days... Bitter neighbour's voice went up a few tones with his visitor when he heard me showing the docs the video my son took of us celebrating Herohane's goal on Saturday.
Doc was unable to distinguish between son's nearly broken voice (he's 14) and my teenish screeching (I'm 45) and made me promise not to celebrate too wildly next week.
My neighbour here on the ENT ward was born in 1937 and remembers the old wooden north stand, Trevor Ford, Danny Blanchflower and has other great stories. He hadn't said a word to me in nearly 24hrs on the ward until I emerged from the shower in my 1957 FA cup replica shirt, now I can't keep him quiet! He was at the game, first time he ever went to London.
It's a small and lovely world.

If you want, PM which hospital you are in. Depending one which site, one of the Chaplains might be able to tell you an inside Villa tale or two that will cheer you up. Hope everyone gets better, I’m at the point of needing to see someone too, voice lost again, not before i’d confessed to my boss it was croaky again after VP and shouting at the telly.

You have mail.
If you lose the ability to swallow get to the quack asap. Epiglottitis (what I have), can easily be overlooked as a
simple case of tonsillitis, which was my initial diagnosis.
Epiglottitis can potentially be fatal if not caught quickly, so don't hold back on going to the quack.
I make this public in all our interests, as I'm sure we're not alone in sore-throatedness.
Rodders.

Mind yourself Rodders, get well soon.

Thank you Dave, and also In Exile, whose wishes I missed at the tail end of the previous page.
Now I'm able to swallow again (yes, haha 😂) I'm hoping to be allowed home tomorrow.

Apologies Rodders I’d forgotten our previous chats, and so you weren’t admitted in Brum. I shall indeed get my throat checked out more formally, not good trying not to cheer. Grand to hear of the grown family and more little Villans, maybe see you in the family section sometime all being well (though with D-day next month might have to wait a while my end!)
Wishing you all all the best.
-
Thanks PT :)
I've replied to your PM, for which many thanks. Great to read of your own impending arrival on another thread :) the growing group of wee Villans is a marvellous thought.
Get well very soon!
My elder lad loves it in the Upper Holte, when the younger is of an age to accompany us we'll let you know and hopefully meet up in the family section... In the Premier League we hope!
All best wishes to you, yours,
and all brothers and sisters in claret and blue who read this post in fact. It's a wonderful family to be a part of.

Best wishes here also Mike. Not sure where your Pa is, home hospice or hospital, but I hope it’s as comfortable for him as can be. Precious hours/days at the end. Please do keep us posted if you wish, most important use of a post match thread ever. Massive Love to all.

Mike, as Nev says H&V is a haven, a wide pool of shared experience, love and support. There have been many times when the support of people on here whom I have never actually met has made all the difference to me.
On this very day in 1981 when I was seven my Dad, who had been admitted to Kiddy General only a few days before with a suspected stomach ulcer, died from cancer, cirrhosis and pneumonia. The poignancy of the dates was weighing so heavily upon me that writing my cheery posts from my hospital bed earlier was in part an attempt at reaching out to my wider Villa family (my missus is in Scotland at the moment and my blood family are bloody useless) for support. You have, I see, already noted the flow of wellwishing that happens when you reach out on here.
That's the power of H&V.
We're all with you, all the way. Stay with us and keep talking if you want or need to. Rest assured we'll do everything we can to support you.
All love and thinking of you and your Dad.

Mike, all the best. I've been where you are and, though the sadness never leaves you, grief turns to gratitude in a weird way. Nothing is harder though so look after yourself.

Beautifully put Rodders. So that must have been not three weeks after Highbury you lost your pops? I can’t quite imagine all that any reference to the glory days must additionally bring up for you. Not got loads of voice but well capable of tapping out messages on what’s app, keep in touch bro.
I sent Rodders this image earlier, hoping to be put to use soon. Acknowledging this post match thread might need shifting to be a post life/H’enders in the Sky thread at some point, but for now at least it speaks the truth of the circle of life.

Wow, thanks guys, I was just saying how much Rodders' story had cheered me up and reminded me what a nice bunch of people are on here. The circle of life thing is true. Today is Dad's birthday, my lad's was on Tuesday. Today is the first day I won't be visiting my Dad because I'm taking my lad and his mates for a stadium tour of Villa Park. Dad's sedated, comfortable and with my sisters and I'm quite sure he'd be furious if I didn't take the boys for their day at Villa Park. Thanks again.
-
Sorry to hear that news Mike. My thoughts are with you.

Thoughts with you Mike. Hope you can switch off it for a short while today.

So sorry to hear this Mike. I have been through it a few times and it doesn't get any easier. I suspect I am in your Dad's age range and the last thing I would want is to spoil the grandchildren's day out.
-
Interesting fact related to my Dad... his dad went to the first ever Wembley FA Cup final and I took my dad to the last.

Thanks PT. It's not a bad thing when supporting Villa to have your initial wonderful experiences tinged with some sadness - sets you up for the rest of your life following the club!
In a very roundabout way I have my Dad to thank for being Villa. He had no interest in football whatsoever (being a Gloucestershire man) but I had a 1980-81 Division 1 plastic football with all the teams printed into the hexagons, and when he was well enough to have a kickabout he would be Wolves, because he had lectured at the Polytechnic there, and I would be Villa because I liked the colours and thought I stood a chance of being taken to a game as Birmingham wasn't far from Kiddy, where he lectured at the FE college. It took me til I passed my driving test in 91 to actually get to Villa Park and stand on the Holte End for the first time as my Mum thought all sport a ridiculous enterprise, but I could feel Dad smiling on me as I watched Platt and Nielsen put 2 past Inter that night.
Mike, my elder son, bless him, has accepted the dross he has seen over the last several years since wanting to follow his Dad down the Trinity Road and has finally seen some excitement this season, thank the Gods.
I've always said to him that I'd understand if he wants to follow another team, but he has been absolutely resolute in his support since I took him to meet Styrene Ron at the club shop and get his shirt signed. We even got on AVTV that day! He has a season ticket for Leyton Orient as he lives in Walthamstow, but Villa are his first love and will remain so. He's already experienced one promotion this season, so hope we can make it two✌
I hope that your Dad remains comfortable. He'd be chuffed as anything that you and your lad will be at Villa Park on his birthday. I can't raise a real glass to him as I'm still mainlining antibiotics through a drip, but I am toasting him with my terrible, piss weak hospital coffee. I hope that that would make him smile ☺
Mike's Dad, ladies and gentlemen ☕
Thoughts are with you all.

Thanks, Rodgers. Like you, I took pity on my boy when he was constantly having the micky taken out of him at school and said he could support a Prem team too if he wanted but he has stood firm. The day after he was born, we beat Arsenal at their place. Part of his present was a programme from the day and a 2011 away shirt.

Very sorry to hear that Mike.

That's brilliant, Mike.
I hope that you both have a fantastic day around VP. My elder lad's first game was the 1-1 against the Stripey Filth in 2012; FTA is a chant very close to my heart, as it was the first one he ever learned and sang on the Holte as a seven year old 😁

Awful for you and your family Mike. There really isn't much I can add to what has already been said only to add my thoughts for you all at this sad time.

But given that this wee corner of a supporter's fanzine site has become a supporter's mutual support area, let's keep the love flowing to all who are in need of our kind thoughts and experience each and every day.
Mister E, I hope that you're feeling alright today - having things you're background processing brought into the foreground is rarely easy... Are you okay chap?
