Ok we lost this one at a time when pushing for promotion but good for the nostalgia I guess at a ground we haven’t played at since.

I was at that game...it was the last game we lost that season going unbeaten to gain promotion.
All the Villa fans were gathered under the TV cameras and were there in fairly large numbers.

A mate of mine invaded the pitch when they scored trying in some stupid way to get the game abandoned calling for other villa fans to join him
needless to say no-one did.....lets just say he didn't travel home with us that evening enjoying the hospitality of the local nick.

I made my first trip to Wembley that day for an England v Holland schoolboy match. I was excited to see Wembley but asked my dad on the coach if we could go to Orient and he was having none of it.

Interesting.  And nice to see Bobby Mcdonald having a typically good game for us.  In my view, a hugely underrated player who should never have been sold.

Allegedly bobby mc was a piss head reason for sale to Coventry.  The game the season before was also eventful 1-1 stopped orient from gaining promotion (Friday night) with Carlisle going up instead not many villa at all at Brisbane road that night

I was living in Chasetown at the time but travelled down to London to stay with my Grandad with my Mum and went to the game with him (Leyton O's are my old local team, coming from Leytonstone). Don't remember much as I was only a kid but was upset that Villa lost and Sir Brian didn't score a hattrick.
Call me fickle, but one year earlier before moving to Chasetown and seeing and then supporting Villa, The O's were my team (given I had Uncles playing for them).

Wasn’t that result the deciding factor in Blues getting promoted?

They were in division 1 in 73/74, stayed up by 1 point.

I always remember that game, how we lost i still don't know .Apart from the score the other thing i always remember from the game was the pitch. It was worse than the bogs i use to play on at Glebe Farm in the Birmingham Monday League .I use to knock about with Bobby Mac,Mike Brady and Jake Findlay and he sure did like a pint or two,not as bad as Bobby Campbell though ,now there is a guy who liked a night out in the city centre

Great find again.
Wonderful to see some players from that era, Keith Leonard especially, and what a pitch! Typical of the day.

The one thing I remember was a mini pitch invasion before kickoff.  The majority of Villa fans were behind the goal.  A handful began chanting from the side terrace and suddenly, what seemed like half the Villa contingent from behind the goal leapfrogged over the railings, across the pitch and onto the side terrace, myself included.  I felt very pleased with myself afterwards.  Only trouble being, the two kids I traveled down with had stayed behind the goal.
