Price agreed, having a medical. Strong midfielder, probably underachieved but a massive upgrade on what we have today.
-
Can he start on Saturday?

TV, where are you getting this from? I hope it's all true. Would be a great signing and tips the window in to positivity!
-
Always liked him. I'd have been more than happy with him when Norwich bought him ages ago.

-
Big, powerful and certainly more of a presence than Connor Hologram, with more legs than Glue Wehlan.
Happy with this.
-
Alan Nixon gave a thumbs up quarter of an hour to someone asking and now everyone is tweeting it as though it's fact. https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1091059855379578883
-
Yep, if we can the best out of him this could be a good signing for us.
-
Have we been fleeced as usual on price?
-
Have we been fleeced as usual on price?
As usual? It’s January - everyone pays a premium.
-
I’m sure I read elsewhere that his contract at Swansea runs out in the summer so you’d hope not.
-
Good move, could be the most important business we've done this window.
-
Have we been fleeced as usual on price?
As usual? It’s January - everyone pays a premium.
Us more than most, at this level anyway. Brentford could live off the Hogan fee for years.
-
This would really beef our midfield up. Permanent transfer too, if it happens.
-
I did indeed, it’s on the Beeb.
He’s Patrick van Arnholts cousin. A fact that if shared is sure to attract female attention for anyone.
-
This for me was the most needed position to strengthen in January. will do for 3 years.
-
We do love buying players who have played well against us, lets hope Fer turns out better than Lansbury has.
-
Have we been fleeced as usual on price?
Nah, you make fleece from wool not fer.
-
Yep, we needed a Jedinak replacement and hopefully he's the man. I'm happy with this along with the GK and the 2 left sided defenders. A winger would be nice to finish it off, but otherwise we've done well.

How would you feel as a Cardiff fan trying to stay in the PL resorting to Bacuna to help save you? On a 4.5 year fucking deal. That sir is the definition of being fleeced.

The look of a man who has no idea how he’s conned so many over his career. And now his finest work.

Bravo. You saw an opportunity and you went for it.

I wonder if we get a sell on fee?

Remember Kachloul and Hadji!
-
If true Marvelous. He is exactly what we need in midfield
-
Funny thing is bacuna's probably on less than he was at Villa

that made me laugh out loud

Have we not learned from the Joe Bryan debacle? Itsotp?
-

Shh! Don't put the hex on it.
-

The Bacuna picture looks convincing to me.
-
Surprised we've not offloaded Birkir or Lansbury or let Jedinak retire to Oz...we're way-overloaded in CM now.
-
Fer would be a good signing as it strengthens the team. what news of boy from France? Is he joining?
-
He will come if his club says he Caen.
-
He will come if his club says he Caen.
fer enough
-
Happy if this is true, strong and able to pass... something we have been sadly lacking, shouldn't be a big ask for a midfielder really, should it?
-
Fans at Swansea been blockading exits tonight in protest of number of players that have left again without replacements ....Fer, Dan James, Montero, Bony, plus younger ones
-

This is pure rocket science for some of the one's we have!

Ha ha, to be truthful at first I thought it was a pun from eamonn until I read his next post.
-
Strange signing, has flattered to deceive at a few clubs and hardly fits the profile of the "growing market value" type that Smith was on about earlier in week. Hope he hasn't been bought off the back off the Cup game a couple of weeks back.
-

yeah was going to say the same myself. Thought Bruce may have been interested in a jedinak as a centre half anyway.
-
Not strange really is it? We need somebody big and physical to screen the defence.
-
Not strange really is it? We need somebody big and physical to screen the defence.
That's not the point he's making.
-
The strategy Smith and co are advocating makes absolute sense.
But there has to be pragmatism as well, and if a player like Fer becomes available you judge each case on its merits.
-
Not strange really is it? We need somebody big and physical to screen the defence.

I know exactly the point he's making. But if you cannot land your two primary and secondary targets, it makes sense to have a third of quality lined up. Surprise to surprise he doesn't rate him, but that's subjective. The difference is, as Kevingage points out, it's either Fer or Hologram and Whelan.
I know which I'd prefer.
-
As far as I can tell there is little to no sign we're even interested in him apart from loads of people running with it on Twitter based on 1 tweet from Alan Nixon.
-
Gregg Evans, Alan Nixon, Dan Harrell and the Daily Mail's Midlands correspondent all reporting it. About as much noise as we usually have.
-

To borrow from Wodehouse, it is never difficult to distinguish between brontebilly's opinion of goings on at the Villa and a ray of sunshine!
-
It's also mentioned on SSN Live Transfer Centre, make of that what you will.
-
Not strange really is it? We need somebody big and physical to screen the defence.
Yup big, physical and mobile too. God knows we need to plug that porous defence of ours.
-
The concern if this drags on too long might be the medical results.
Didn't he fail one just as he was about to join Everton a few years back?
-
I always thought he was more of an attacking midfielder. Buy I thibk he playrd very well as a holding midfielder in the fa Cup game?
-
Yeah he was the one who was knocking O'Hare about.
-
Came off injured against the Noses. Trolololol.

It's that Brian Green and his chemistry-based punnery. There was nothing before then.
Anyway, thanks, Google Translate. l'equipe (https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Transferts-lille-pense-a-leroy-fer-swansea/983266)
The Dutchman, holding on Tuesday night against Birmingham (3-3), left the lawn after only fifteen minutes, slightly touched at the ischios.
-
He's an absolute arsehole on the pitch but he bossed the game when they thrashed us in the FA Cup a few weeks back.
We do need a few more arseholes. Lansbury's that sort but he's never fit enough to play so this is probably a good move.
-
Any actual reliable source for this?
-
This, if it happens, would be bloody ace!
-
I hope I’m wrong but I’ve got a horrible feeling that this one isn’t going to happen.

-
Welcome Leroy. Sounds good this. 😊
-
Do we know why Swansea were happy to let him go?
-
Welcome! Now show your fellow villains how defensive midfield is supposed to be done! With any luck this’ll put a rocket up hourihanes a-se.
-
Do we know why Swansea were happy to let him go?
Money. The owners want it.
-
Do we know why Swansea were happy to let him go?
Contract up in the summer and also on bigger wages than some of their players.
-
Maybe they wern’t, he wanted to leave and come to a proper club
-
Do we know why Swansea were happy to let him go?
American owners that none of the fans get. All about business profits....sold their best 4 players today. Fans outraged and demonstrations at club tonight. Could really free fall now
-
He’s injured isn’t he?
-
He’s injured isn’t he?
Are you not keen?
-
I give a lot of credibility to other fans opinions on players, I’m happy we’ve not signed Hayden. Fer has much more about him.
-
Other tweets saying still not done
-
Reported as signed now. Welcome. Don’t be shit.
Where is it reported?
-
He’s injured isn’t he?
Are you not keen?
No he went off after 15 minutes against SHA the other night hence my question ‘he’s injured isn’t he?’

Ah. That makes sense now.
Welcome, and good luck!👌
-

Where is it reported?
Think I suffered a bit of premature speculation!
-
Not official yet
-
Where's the confirmation coming from?
-
Only when avfcofficial says so.
-
This feels like it's not going to happen.
-
As long as we get the deal sheet on by 1am it’s fine.
-
Him and Mings are big, tall, proper athletes, exactly what we need.
-
Fine for those that don't want to get any kip, sure. 😢
-
Or do any work (in my case). 8)
-
Fine for those that don't want to get any kip, sure. 😢
I know. I’ve got to be up at 3.45.
-
The sheep won't mind if you stop working for half an hour or so. 😊
Edit: damn Percy rendering my post nonsensical by posting too quickly.
-
I'm doing my occasional all-nighter speaking to Australian ans Asian clients so do feel free to take your time, Villa. It's either transfers or Dotun Adebayo.
-
Don't talk about my staff like that CD ;D
-
As long as we get the deal sheet on by 1am it’s fine.
Is the Football League still reliant on a fax machine?!
-

Don’t worry, we got it.
-
According to BBC Sport Leeds have been trying to sign someone called Daniel James from Swansea for hours but noone knows if it's gone through yet.
Maybe Swansea are taking the piss all round?
-

If the quality of the referee's are anything to judge them by, it will probably be down to morse code.
-
Nothing more frustrating than a fax machine that doesn’t pick up. Just that bastard high pitched screeching noise. Or when the paper goes through and that slip prints out and says no connection, or not completed.
-
Just read that the deal fell through. Who started this page before the stretchy shirt ??!!
-

You lot mocking faxes obviously can’t remember results coming in on the teleprinter.
-
Somebody forgot to press 9.
Hourihane it is. Yikes.
-
There was absolutely nothing even remotely concrete anywhere about this. Load of bollocks.
-
Just read that the deal fell through. Who started this page before the stretchy shirt ??!!
I'm not naming names, but it was the same poster who started the Joe Bryan thread.
-
Someone in relation to club just tweeted could there be potential of 2 more signings then quickly deleted post !
-
Stuart James
Stuart James
@StuartJamesGNM
Phil - extremely reliable - reporting that the Dan James deal to Leeds is off.
I'm also hearing the same in relation to Fer and Aston Villa.
In fact, Jeff, you might want to think about doing a U-turn too.

Looks like Swansea pulled the plug on this deal and James to Leeds.
-
Well that’s a rather underwhelming transfer window if you ask me. Goodnight.

LOL if only I had that much power.
-
Sounds like Swansea have been taking the piss. With us and Leeds. We need to remember this if ever they want anything from us. Pulling the plug on deals with seconds left of the deadline is wank behaviour.
-
Well that’s a rather underwhelming transfer window if you ask me. Goodnight.
Correct. Absolute shite.
-
The full Freddie Sheppard.
-
Delete this thread and restart new if announced by 1am
-
It would have been a good transfer window if we had got Fer. It's a disappointing one now.
We have to hope that Mings and/or Hause prove their worth and that we can avoid falling too far adrift of the top six until Grealish returns.
Still not impossible we go up, but it's slightly less likely than it was a couple of hours ago when Fer looked likely to sign.
-
Don’t worry we will have Whelan plodding through the midfield again at Reading. With the majestic Bjarnasson to come on if necessary with Lansbury injured falling over his now discarded Alice band and going off injured in the process.
-
We took TC instead.
-
Told you this had been a good window.
-
Very easy mistake to make getting them two mixed up
-
Bloody Toronto again trying to be Mr I'm first :)
-
Would getting Fer as well be beyond the realms?
-
So disappointing to read the Fer deal is not happening .We end up with two injury prone defenders on loan and another defender who can not play until next season .No midfielder ,no striker .Seems all the talk from Smith earlier was just that .Talk.
-
Bloody Torronto again trying to be Mr I'm first :)
Fucking ITK me
-

Couldn't be Fer-ther away from being ITK

So, Swansea haven't shafted us after all. But they have still pissed Leeds off?
Always liked them. Marvellous people, Swansea.
-
I have no clue what's going on here
-
Neither have I but if it helps, bloody Swansea and welcome Tom.
-
Fer failed a medical apparently.
-
Does that mean Swansea have or haven't pissed us off?
-
Fer failed a medical apparently.
How do you know that Ads?

We've strengthened in the areas we were weak, brining in left sided defenders, goalies, and a midfielder.

For a team 10th in Division 2.

Oh and given we kept Abraham, it's not bad.
For a team 10th in Division 2.
A fair point. It's easy to overlook the fact that we have a player who is arguably worth about thirty million quid playing up front for us.
-
Gutted, he was just what we needed.
-
really disappointed to find this didn't go through. it would have strengthened us considerably. WBA have fared much better in this window IMO.
-
I dont know, theyve signed attacking players of which we need none and they've not replaced with anybody near as good as Barnes.

I agree with this.
When I heard the news about Fer being linked yesterday, I forwarded it on to my QPR-supporting mate, who loved him when he played for them. His reply was: 'Oh dear. Well, at least he'll have John McGinn to do his running for him'. Reckons he's not been the same since his injury.
The squad is now a lot more balanced than it was at the start of January.
-
We, on here, were victims of a rumour we started!
McKenna to Stoke for £7mill.. Leroy Fer being linked.
Then came the bombshell!
Fer details being ironed out.
Next thing you know,
Fer details being ironed out.
This happening Brian? Thought he was in France completing a move?
And now, it's aliiiiive
Alan Nixon just tweeted re Leroy Fer..... don’t understand how he would fit in ?
I still think if Brian hadn't said anything, neither would've anyone else. Including Nixon.

Plus the RB who has been loaned back to his former club.
I think the failure to sign Fer at the death (if true) has left many of us feeling underwhelmed. Carroll doesn't seem quite as exciting. Now that he's ghere though, he'll get his chance, as will all of the others. Then we can make better judgements on how good the window has been.
I remember Bruce's first window looked quite excitinf - 12 months later, most of those signings weren't starting for us.
-
SWANSEA jungle drums down this part of the world are suggesting that Fer never even arrived at villa
-
Fer is a jinx. Wasn't he relegated three years running with QPR, Norwich and Swansea?
