Title: Aston Villa v Sheffield Wednesday: Pre-Match Thread
Post by: Ads on September 20, 2018, 08:55:27 AM
So the Wendies come to town on Saturday. They're the club I have developed a dislike for in the Championship. Absurd level of self aggrandizement in our first season down, a coach load vomming out a load of fat Yorkshire racists signing about Pakis on the streets of Brum at quarter to 3 in the afternoon, their chavs thinking they're Johnny Ten Men outside the away end.

I'll take a particular satisfaction in shovelling this lot.

They don't appear as woeful as last year, more bang average. Which is what this league appears full to the brim of.

I'm not sure whether Bolasie is fit to start but if he is, get him in.

Nyland

Hutton
Chester
Tuanzebe
Elmo

Connor
McGinn

Kodjia
Grealish
Bolasie

Tammy

I think having Grealish central would suit us more as we lose something with him out wide.

Interesting to see how we line up for this

Wednesday are conceding goals and look ropey at the back

But play a four in midfield against bannan might be risky while they have a huge striker upfront. So if fresh enough jedinak should play again in my view - whether at CB or DM

El ghazi to be taken out I imagine

Don't yet know if tuanzebe has recovered and if players like McGinn could do with a rest

They played last night so we have 24 hours extra rest going to smash them.

Yes Wednesday and QPR last season both need to reprimanded.

Unconvincing performance, nervy last few minutes but ultimately a narrow win and another three points.

Pretty sure going on past comments from Bruce he didn't use the squad enough last season, Jedinak's two games in a week, and reverting to type, Whelan will be recalled for this game and we'll see a formation with one up top, Tuanzebe recalled at centre back.

Nyland
Elmo Tuanzabe Chester Hutton
Whelan
Bolasie Grealish McGinn Kodija
Abraham
Subs Goalie Bree Taylor Hourihane Bjarnnason Albert El Gazza

I honestly can't call this one.  They are an improving side generally and we seem to be, er, in transition.  Just as likely to win 5-1 as lose 1-2.
Title: Re: Aston Villa v Sheffield Wednesday - Pre Match Thread

Barry Bannan has been in some form but hopefully is subdued on his homecoming.
They lost 2-1 to forest away on wed though

Now with our attacking play and the 2 up top as drive would say they re a threat to anybody.

Villa have scored in every league match this season and I think a couple here
Let's take another win 3-1

I think the Wednesday fans still a bit salty from their beating at Hillsborough and their claims of red bias

No doubt we'll leak at least a comedy single goal - one of those trickle slowly into the back of the net whilst everyone looks on. I want say 2-1, I really do. But a solid 1-1 again looms. I hope I'm wrong.

Will be interesting to see if he keeps two up top or if Abraham will play up front on his own and Kodjia will go out wide.  Wouldn't surprise me if Bruce goes with the former and Bjarnason or Whelan come in.  After his comments in midweek about Jedinak at CB, I can see him staying there with the team looking something like:

                                           Nyland

Elmohamady              Chester             Jedinak         Hutton

                                  Bjarnason / Whelan

                              Grealish                         McGinn

Adomah                              Abraham                     Kodjia

Not sure Bolasie is fit enough to start just yet and I think El Ghazi will be on the bench after Tuesday, so Albert gets a start.

Unchanged line-up.

Another home win to 'shut-up the mad few' and Bruce hangs on a bit longer.

And I'll be happy because we've won again. And because the Mrs and in-laws will be happy we've beaten 'the pigs'.

Judging by his non performance at Hillsborough last season he is a threat by not playing as they may have someone decent in his place.

My memory may well be fading, but I had a couple of Wednesday supporting mates a long time ago, and I'm sure they referred to United as "the pigs". Unless they just both call each other that?

I saw this earlier and a friend of mine said I was being petty for being a little concerned about it. I don't know. To be honest, I think it's pretty embarrassing for a guy who big-ups himself about how many promotions he's won.

Problem is, you've got two days to actually game plan after a Tuesday nighter and you're preparing/basing your squad on a non-factor. Have some pride in your work for christs sake. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail.

I have seen some of the Man City thing and don't expect him to get the team to perform to that standard. However I do expect him to be professional and that was not. Maybe his time in Portugal while other managers were working with their non internationals messed his mind. Disgrace IMHO

If Forestieri scores against us today and we end up losing, I expect Bruce to be sacked and a complete root and branch overall of the coaching staff to take place.

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but for as long as I can remember the football league fixtures have been arranged in a way that does not have Villa and Albion both playing at home on the same day, but this has happened twice this week.  Seems odd.

He should know about Foresteri not playing. How can he plan for the game, if He doesn’t have a clue who the replacement will be. Particularly important in understanding how the opposition will line up in an attacking sense

I've a nagging doubt that Wednesday will make a few changes and be fresher, while we won't and our 442 won't be as effective against quite a nimble midfield in bannan and onomah

Well we've had an extra day to recover and prepare, Wednesday played midweek on the day of their name and were running the hard yards up to the final whistle at Nottingham Forest where they scored a late goal and then chased an equaliser.
Brucey probably mixed-up his Forests and his Forestieris.

No more handbrake fotball with lone holding striker that never gets service and DMC screeners . No, 2 up front , 4 positive MFs and 4 defenders playing their natural positions as best they can manage.  Then we browbeat SW into submission 5-2.
