John Gregory: Former Aston Villa boss wins Indian Super League with Chennaiyin FC according to BBC Sport.
Adds to his Intertoto cup triumph! Well done John.
-
Well done John. Hopefully this means he is in better health now?
-
He is looking old these days isnt he, them 4 years at the helm for us must have took its toll.
-
Well done John, always wore his heart on his sleeve when he managed us, one of my favourite managers.
-
Go on!! The blurb from the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43459335
-
Well done John.
-
Great news. Doing much better than Platt at Pune City.
-
Good man, Grecian.
Hadn't struck me before but he played and managed us, QPR and Derby. Are there any other people who have both played and managed for three or more of the same clubs?
-
Still love the man. Well done John!
-
A pre season tour of India and China would be something fascinating for us to do in future.
-
Well done John, maybe it was just the era but he is still one of my favourite managers.
-
Little and Gregory. Great times.
-

Me too mate. Possibly my favourite. Maybe we can get him back.
-
Well done John. Long forgiven you for not signing Robbie Keane. Perhaps it is the passage of time but we seemed in the past to have managers with real personalities. John, Sir Brian, BFR, Ron Saunders, SGT. Latterly we have had such dull, lumpen, grab the money and run, boring men.
-
Well done JG ;D ;D
-
Well done Boss I'm pleased for him.
-
Excellent news, still very fond of Mr G.

Technically Plymouth as well, so four.
-
He started his managerial career at Portsmouth. Meaningless point and trivia but the he Chennaiyin club colours and badge shares some similarities with the Portsmouth badge.

Never think of anything but positives when JG was with us as both coach and Manager. Always felt he was badly let down by Collymore at the time.
-
I don't blame Gregory for this, but it was during his spell I started to really dislike the Premier League. I was hardly a fan before, but it was then it became apparent to me we weren't going to compete at the very top. Still, he scored twice in my first ever Villa game so that'll always be my abiding memory of him. Glad he's won a pot.

Pardew? Reading, Palace, Charlton
Big Sam - Bolton, Preston, Sunderland
-
Happy for the bloke.
Still says we when talking about the Villa.
-
I liked John Gregory. He had a real enthusiasm for the role and seemed genuinely chuffed to be Villa manager.
-
He is looking old these days isnt he, them 4 years at the helm for us must have took its toll.
He had a heart bypass when he left Crawley in 2014.
He is in his 60s now.
-
He always wore very good shoes as I recall. Tony Xia please note.
-
He actually looks like the head of an upper-class Indian family from a Bollywood blockbuster (albeit a somewhat paler version) - he is even wearing Indian type garb too.
Love the man

Love it, if only he had been a bit more adventurous in the Final.
-
Wonderful achievement, isn’t it? 8)
The first and the best!
Incredibly well done, John Gregory.
UTV and Up Chennai FC!

In playing your game I see the similarity of the colours, the crescent half moon and the horns, the stars and the ears, but more disturbingly I see a todger hanging out of the guys mouth that I can't now un-see.

All he needs is a bit darker skin and a fat moustache.

It clearly complements Pompey's rusty tea-towel holder.

Allardyce has managed Bolton and Sunderland and been caretaker manager of Preston and played for them all.

Hahaha! Excellent!

That's a brilliant photograph. He looks a bit like Stalin without the 'tache.

So it’s really rare then!

I wish I hadn't asked now.

You made some posters very happy.

You ruined my relaxing bath on Sunday, trying to think of managers...anyway, Brian Laws.
-
I thought Simon Stainrod played for and managed Falkirk, Dundee and Ayr United but after checking I discovered he was only a player at Falkirk. In the words of Meatloaf I suppose two out of three ain't bad.

Glass of wine, candles on, singing along to Adele?
-
What could me more romantic than lying back, relaxing in the bath thinking about Sam Allardyce?
-
This week i've watched lengthy interviews with John Gregory, Brian Little and Ian Taylor conducted by the Villa View Podcast. They're all on youtube and well worth watching. When feeling nostalgic I tend to gloss over the Gregory era in favour of the Taylor, Atkinson and Little teams but by 'eck it sure brought back some good memories of that fantastic 98-00 period just listening to him talk again.

Paul Bodin, Paddy Sloan, Brian Godfrey have played for and managed Bath City.

Yeah well done JG. Not only do I like him simply for being a character, but after his illness a few years ago I'm pleased he's landed on his feet.
-
Bring him on board for the playoffs - stranger things have happened
