Oh dear. On my birthday too. A good stalwart for the Villa who I remember us signing. I've always checked the result of Raith Rovers ever since. Nice to read that Harry Burrows had been in to visit him.

He was the first new signing I ever saw, if I recall I went to see him play in a friendly against Raith Rovers

From an era when many teams had a wee Scottish winger. Always looked an old player, but my memory of him is a tricky hard working player. We replaced him with a younger version Johnny MacLeod.

Most memorable game was the 11-1 win against Charlton .........
Had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy & his wife at a book signing a few years ago....I joked about his 'bow legs' and he stood up and displayed two perfectly straight limbs and gave me a playful kick-

He was in the first Villa first team I saw (Arsenal, 1963, Hateley two goals for us, MacLeod for them) and Jimmy made an impression because he seemed unimaginably old and weathered, though checking back he must only have been 34.
My excuse is I was only 12, so perspective a tad skewed.

Hadn't realised - but he played in and skippered the side that played that legendary - almost mythical - 5-5 draw at WHL. on his 37th Brirthday

RIP Jimmy he was a popular with the fans. According to the Birmingham Mail he was believed to be Villa's oldest surviving player. Not sure but I think Nigel Sims, aged 86, might now hold that honour.

I remember his last game v ManU and the fairy tale bit of him scoring the goal....I don't think I appreciated that he played until he was that age.

Met a few of the '57 cup winning team at Nigel Simms book signing a few years back.
Shook his hand and said what a pleasure it was to meet him and the rest and asked him to sign the book.
He seemed a touch embarrassed, and said thank you, but, we only played football.
Yes, Jimmy, but, you played football for the greatest football team in the World.
Oh, I wish I'd said that to him :)

I was sad to hear of the death of Jimmy Mac He was one of the first players i saw playing for the Villa .He stood out with his bow legs and as someone remarked looked a lot older than he was .RIP Jimmy

Currently I think it is Nigel Sims born 9/8/31
