Aston Villa U16s 3-0 Wigan U16s Cameron with 1 goal and 1 assist.
-
Start of another U18 Academy season tomorrow at Bodymore. We have presumably a very difficult first game against Chelsea.
It is always interesting to see the new crop of players as almost all of last seasons regular team will be too old to play.
From last years Team Mitch Clark and Jake Hayes have taken great strides towards making the first team squad and I would think Jack Clarke could also do well this year.
I am expecting Jake Walker and Dominic Revan to do well for the U18s this year. They both played quite often last year and have another two years in the 18s by my reckoning.
I am looking forward to the new season very much at this level.
-
I was told on Saturday that that the U23's are playing at Bescot tonight but there is no mention on the OS. Does anyone know anything about this?
-
I've finally found out via a contact that we play WBA U23's at Bescot tonight at 7pm.
-
U23 Team for tonight vs the stripeys.
Matija Sarkic
Mitchell Clark, Easah Suliman, KevinToner, Oscar Borg
Jordan Lyden (c), Jake Doyle-Hayes, Corey Blackett-Taylor, Callum O'Hare
Harry McKirdy, Keinan Davis
Subs;
Viktor Johannson
Jack Clarke, Jacob Bedeau, Khalid Abdo, Jordan Cox
An obvious omission is RHM.
So don't think any of this team will feature tomorrow vs Reading
-
Just before the half hour Villa take the lead through a penalty from Lyden.
The passing of decades and centuries do not matter as any Albion team of any era are always dirty bastards!
-
HT 1-1. Equaliser in 46th minute.
-
Now 2-1 ahead. Don't know the scorer yet.
-
Ended 3 1. Some light at the end of a dark dark tunnel
-
Davis scored the second goal, a header from a Doyle-Hayes free kick.
Then Sarkic saved a penalty to keep Villa ahead.
Third goal scored by Doyle-Hayes in added injury time.

What's the criteria for inclusion? Dagenham and Redbridge or Exeter??

What's the criteria for inclusion? Dagenham and Redbridge or Exeter??
Any team can enter, there is a qualifying round for those below the top two levels to get the number down to 32 for the group stage.
-
Arsenal U16s 0-1 Aston Villa U16s
Cam with the assist for the goal.
-
U23s lost 1-2 to 10 man Stoke U23 at BMH today. Kickoff 12 noon
Team:-
Matija Sarkic
Easah Suliman, Kevin Toner, Jacob Bedeau, Oscar Borg
Jordan Lyden, Alex Prosser, Jack Clarke, Khalid Abdo
Kelsey Mooney, Jordan Cox
Subs;
Viktor Johansson
Harvey Knibbs, Joshua Williams, Jake Walker, Dominic Reven
Stoke 1-0 up at half time, with one of theirs sent off in injury time. Then went 2-0 up through a penalty before Abdo got the consolation.
From memory notable absentees in today's line up:
Davis, RHM, Callum O'Hare, Harry McKirdy and Jake Doyle-Hayes. Plus Mitchell Clark.
Can we presume some of them will be in tomorrow's line-up vs Wigan?
-
Cam (still 15) has been selected for the U18s squad v Swansea (A) on Saturday.

Cam (still 15) has been selected for the U18s squad v Swansea (A) on Saturday.
Good luck to him, if he holds his own there he'll be nudging the U23s in year or so.
-
He will. I am sure of it.
-
I'm looking forward to watching Cam soon.
Early days this season but I think the second years are maybe not as good as the first years so it may be a tough season at U18 level.
Only seen the home game against Chelsea so far, and they dominate youth football, but we seem pretty good defensively with not a lot of threat going forward, so I can see a route into the youth team for Cam if he is as good as his record suggests.
-
We lost our first home game of the season to Chelsea at Bodymore a couple of weeks ago. This is no surprise and it makes judging our lads very difficult against a Team who had about 85% possession and where the game was played almost exclusively in our half.
But we held out very well and there were some outstanding performances from some of our lads.
Boucher is a very good Keeper and looks the part.
The two centre backs who are both first years (so only 16 years old) were outstanding. Ethan Patterson and Dominic Revan won everything that came their way and there was a lot of crosses etc to deal with. Revan played regularly at the end of last season as an U16 and looks to have a very bright future.
Best forward on view for us was Jacob Ramsey, very skillful indeed.
-
A couple of questions - Can the public watch the games at BMH? I ask because I have read elsewhere that the public are not allowed to watch U23 games there.
Is there a website/webpage showing fixtures?
-
You used to be able to watch the games without a problem but now you have to be on a list. It is fairly easy to get on the list but it does mean a visit to Villa Park and showing proof of your address etc.
They only check the list if the games are being played at the back and you need to go through the security gates.
Last week against Chelsea the game was played right by the Car Park so anyone could get in to see it.
The fixtures should be on the website but most U23 games are held at Villa Park or Bescott and entrance is free to season ticket holders or a couple of quid if you haven't got a season ticket.
-
Thank you Larry
-
I've never had a problem with watching Cam play on the bottom or middle pitches. The barn and the top pitches have more stringent security.
-
Swansea U18s 1-1 Aston Villa U18s. Cameron with the Villa goal. Get in!

U23 team this evening vs Southampton at the Banks'KO 7-00pm
Johanson
De Laet, Suliman, Mitch Clark, Borg
Cox, Jack Clarke, Doyle-Hayes, Blackett-Taylor
O'Hare, Kodjia
Subs
Idem (GK), Bedeau, Prosser, Knibbs, Mooney.
No Jordan Lyden then?
-
Brum Mail:
1-0 (Cox, 13)
Villa take the lead and it’s a lovely goal to break the deadlock.
It all started with Doyle-Hayes who exchanged passes with O’Hare.
Cox then charged forward and let rip from outside the box, superbly curling into the bottom corner past McCarthy.
-
2-0. Cox again.
-
4-0 at present. Taylor and O'Hare are the latest scorers.
-
Neil? Must be boosting the U23 average.

I assume Corey blackett Taylor.

Neil? Must be boosting the U23 average.
I assume Corey blackett Taylor.
I assume He meant Neil Cox but I might be wrong.
Wow what a great performance and that is why I like to watch the Youth and Reserve Teams play.
Kodjia did fine and looked fit enough. He played the first half so hopefully will be fit enough to play tomorrow night. I reckon He will be on the bench. I thought Ritchie De Laet played very well too and should be in contention to play tomorrow. In fact He should start but as He played about 80 minutes I would guess He won't.
This Team played Football in the second half that you would never see the first Team playing. Quick, Skillful, Accurate, Interchanging positions, pressing and winning the ball back.
Every player played well tonight against a strong Southampton including Virgil Van Dijk in their ranks but Mitchel Clark, Jack Clarke, Jordan Cox, Jake Doyle Hayes and the best player on the pitch Callum O'Hare were all outstanding.
After Saturday it was a joy to watch.
-
Yeah, it was a nod to old Neil.
Nice report Duff, glad it was worth going to. Depressing that the Villa engine reverses when it gets to the first team.
-
It's the Maily Dail, but there are two of the goals on video:

Hi Larry.
What position did Mitch Clark play?
-
He played Left sided Centre Back with Sulliman his partner on the right and Oscar Borg at Left Back.
Mitch is a Centre Half by trade but they often move him to play at right back.
I've seen him play many times and only once at Left Back and that was his First Team debut.
Luckily it didn't seem to bother him and He played very well.
-
Cheers, Larry.
I've liked Clark every time I've seen him play.
-
U23's lost 4-1 against Middlesborough tonight. Clark got sent off at 2-0.
-
U23's lost 4-1 against Middlesborough tonight. Clark got sent off at 2-0.
3-0 at he time of his dismissal according to the Brum Mail.
Villa's Mitchell Clark was then shown a straight red for an over-zealous challenge and two minutes later Boro were four up when a low shot from Miller was turned into the path of Mitchell Curry who stroked home.
-
Fulham U16s 1-1 Aston Villa U16s. Cameron with the Villa goal. After he scored he was substituted and went on for the U18s.
-
Tonight's Under 23 game against Brighton at Villa Park is on Youtube.
Doyle-Hayes, Bree and Lyden are in the team according to https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial
-
Anyone think Cory Taylor has got a touch of the Tony Morley's about him?
-
Taylor looks like a decent prospect. Suliman looks strong and composed as well, although that appreciate the level they're playing at.
Brighton should be way ahead after that first half. Let's hope this is our good half.👍
-
I like Taylor but he always looks slightly uncomfortable on the left from what I've seen.
I agree on Suliman, he reads the game really well for his age, he makes mistakes but that's to be expected.
Lyden and Sarkic look too good for this level.
-
The boys have come from behind to lead bagged 2 1 in the pl cup. They look like a good set of lads
-
ended up 3-1.
-
Good free kick from Lyden for our second, saw a video from a phone on facebook.
-
Fulham U16s 6-4 Aston Villa U16s. Cam with 2 goals.
-
Grealish starts for u23 against wolves and we are 2 0 up at h t. Mckirdy with them both
-
Hepburn back yet?
-
Fulham U16s 6-4 Aston Villa U16s. Cam with 2 goals.
Not too long until he’ll be in the reserves
-
If he's not careful he might and up in the first team. Poor kid.
-
Disappointing not to see any Villa involvement - there would have been not so long ago.

Did Grealish play for the reserves the other night?
EDIT: excuse my laziness:

U23's currently 4-0 up against Newcastle after 39 minutes.
-
The under-23s 4 - 0 up after 23 minutes, vs Noocastle , McKirdy 2, O'Hare 1 & Lanbury one apiece...so far, apparently we've missed a few sitters as well. Grealish really involved...............Godzvilla!
-
Mail half time report
"A simply brilliant first half of football from Villa, who were streets ahead of Newcastle. Goals from McKirdy, O’Hare (2) and Lansbury. ".
" Alex Dicken
If I wasn't busy typing away I'd have stood up and applauded for virtually the whole of that first half. "
Always good to read such brilliant reviews on the Villa, even if it's not the first team , they are so few and far between....Godzvilla!
-
They really do seem to be gelling as a team. Hopefully this is the villa machine wyness talked about and the current 1st team will evolve with the youth and not vice versa
-
5 - 0...O'Hare Hat Trick !...............the futures bright, the future's our Claret & Blue babbies....Godzvilla!
-
With the senior team playing 3 times in a week, I think we could do with freshening the side up a bit on Wednesday. Some of these guys could be playing. Maybe they're playing as well as they are because they've been told they could be playing?
-
6-0 ..Doyle Hayes...gettin!........Godzvilla!
-
6-0 so far.
Jack made three goals and was then taken off after after disobeying MacDonald
-
Villa 6 Toon 0 ,sounds good even if it is only the reserves
-
Villa 6 Toon 0 ,sounds good even if it is only the reserves
I am really hopeful about this current crop of young players. Things look pretty good when you think that we could field a genuine U23 (ie they are all under that age) team of:
Bree Beddeau Suliman Clark
Lyden Doyle-Hayes
Green O'Hare Grealish
Davis
I just hope there is a plan in place to bring these players through, as it looks a really good group.
-
No GK? They must be good.
-
I'd love to see one of Lyden or Doyle-Hayes getting a game alongside Jedi in the firsts; a great combo of youth and experience, legs and guile.
-
We could try RHM in goal, as he doesn't seem to get on the pitch very often.
-
U23s playing at Ipswich tonight in a Cup match. 1 - 1 at HT. Harvey Knibbs scored the equaliser.
Team contains several names I have never heard of before. Match being reported live on the OS Official Twitter page.

Massive, massive congratulations to Cam who has just earned a two year scholarship contract at Aston Villa effective from July 2018. I am so, so pleased for him.

Official site doesn't give a venue for U23 tonight. I'm sure I heard it was at VP. Am I right?

According to Sheffield United's site it's a Hednesford

Thanks, that's saved me a wasted journey to VP.

Sounds like Cameron is doing very well Leeg. Let's hope he can keep up this great potential in the future.

He really is doing the business isn't he?
-
Don't let any other club snap him up!
-
I have seen Cam play a couple of times now for the Youth Team and He is doing very well. Be interesting if He starts tonight as the FA Youth Cup is the Blue Ribbon tournament for U 18s and every Club fields it's strongest Side.
Coventry reckon they will have 500 fans at the game tonight but as Villa hadn't as of this morning even mentioned the game or put it on the fixture list, unfortunately the first competitive home game for a lot of our youngsters is likely to be in front of a Hostile crowd.
-
Good to watch the game on YouTube 2-1 at the moment.
-
Won two-one. Bury at Gigg Lane in the next round. They beat Cheltenham by the same score to prevent a CheltenhamLion Derby.
-
Both goals from Odutayo who's one of the kids we picked up in the summer (Dutch lad who was playing in Belgium). Larry might be able to tell us more but I've been told that they're very impressed with him so far. Watching the game he looks like he has great technique, his first touch os solid and the strikes the ball really well, if he can keep that a develop he could be a very good striker.
-
We played quite well and the 500 Coventry fans turned out to number about 20.
I had not seen Odutayo play before but He has a lot of ability and took his goals very well and is another U17 player so will be available next year.
We seem to be building up a good collection of first year YTS with home grown talent like Jake Walker, Dominic Revan, Lewis Brunt and Jacob Ramsey and adding to them Odutayo and the impressively named Indiana Vassilev who was the youngest player in the USA U17 World Cup squad.
-
U23's currently ahead 2-3 against the Albion. The Russian got the first, Cox the second and the third. Albion down to ten men.
-
I am looking at scorespro.com who in 82 mins have the score at 1-3 in f/o Villa. Plus they have O'Hare as scorer of the 3rd on 72 with Cox on 69 min for 2nd. Cox replaced RHM?
-
I'm looking at Flashscores Live and it still has the scorers listed as I have posted.
-
Finished 1-4, McKirdy scoring the last one.
-
Good to see RHM back on the scoresheet too. Excellent win for the kids
-

Aston Villa U16s 6-6 Arsenal U16s. Cam with 2 goals and 2 assists. Villa losing 4-1, went 6-4 up, took Cameron off then drew 6 each.
-
That's the problem with the Youth games, they are so boring !! Wow that sounded like a cracker.
Not all games are classics but the coaches always insist on passing Football so even if we go behind (and the opposition as well) we will never resort to long ball.
I haven't managed to see the youth team for the last couple of months as I have a dodgy hip and hopefully I am due an operation tomorrow but I hope to get down there before the end of the season.
Be interesting to see Cameron next year when He will be a YTS.
-
The U23's are live on you tube tonight if anyone would like to see how the yoof are doing.
-
Good luck with the op, Larry.
-
Good luck with the op, Larry.
Thanks Rudy, I failed the fitness test and it got cancelled at the last minute, even had the felt tip arrows drawn on my hip.
Correct decision as I wasn't really fit to have it.
Looking forward to watching tonight's game. Tishbola is starting and another chance to see some of the very good talent we have including the seemingly forgotten Mitch Clark.
-
Johansson, Borg, Suliman, Bedau, Clark, Blackett-Taylor, Cox, Tshibola, Clarke, Prosser, McKirdy
Live on youtube here:
-
Tshibola puts us one up with a header from 3 yards. Credit to him for getting himself in the box, supporting our attack down the left.
-
1-3. Pretty ordinary.
-
It was the coldest I have been in years made worse by throwing away a 1 goal lead. In fairness I thought that Fulham were the better team.
-
Watch it online they scored all there goals in a five minute spell in the second half.
-
Started watching at 1-1, we then conceded 2 poor goals. Nothing that I saw to get excited about.
-
It was the coldest I have been in years made worse by throwing away a 1 goal lead. In fairness I thought that Fulham were the better team.
I watched it on the club's you tube channel and the commentator mentioned a couple of times how cold it was. As for the team, no-one in particular stood out.
-
Currently 2-0 up with about 10 to go in the cup against sheffield utd, Knibbs and Clarke with the goals.
-
Chelsea U16s 7-2 Aston Villa U16s. Cameron with both Villa goals.
-
The U23's are playing Southampton at the moment and it's live on their facebook page, although it looks as if it's been filmed on someone's mobile phone.
-
0-1 Green giving us the lead, lovely ball to him from Jack Clarke and a really good finish on the angle.
-
0-2 mckirdy penalty.
Great ball out to Green again and his first touch was too good for the right back who lunged in, clear pen.
McKirdy then missed a 1on1. We're battering them to be honest.
-
It looks so easy for us. Southampton are very poor.
-
Watching it on YouTube. 3-0 now. Tshibola
-
0-3 tish this time, lovely goal, worked it down the left and then McKirdy played alovely pass for tish to tap in without breaking stride.
-
Absolutely dicking them to be fair, 4-5 of our players look far too good for reserves football.
-
Tshibola stupidly fucked around with it and gave it away on the edge of the box and they've scored
3-1 now
-
Link if anyone needs it
-
3-1 HT, but we gave them a couple of superb opportunities to make it 3-2.
-
Yep, took our foot of the gas a little towards the end of that half, still totally deserved the lead but maybe we should've slowed things down a bit after our 3rd and got through to half time with the clean sheet.
-
Tish has ability but he's far too laid back and doesn't have enough quality to make up for it. I can imagine him having a good run where everything works but I don't think it'll ever b an extended period of being worth what we paid unless his attitude changes.
-
On the subject of midfielders, Jack Clarke looks very good, works hard and has a good range of passing, he could turn out to be a good player.
Bree worries me as well, gives the ball away a lot.
Bedeau and Suliman both have mistakes in them but they're decent in the air, read the game pretty well and seem to have good instincts, I think they could both turn out well.
O'Hare looks unsure of himself on the right, he's definitely a 10 for me.
-
I thought Tshibola did ok apart from the error for their goal.
-
Nicely taken goal from Suli, finishes it off. 4-1 Villa...................Godzvilla!
-
Apart from a couple of dodgy spells a very comfortable win.
-
I thought Tshibola did ok apart from the error for their goal.
Could we not coach him rather than try and send him off on loan ??
-
I thought Tshibola did ok apart from the error for their goal.
He could be a much better player though. There were a few times where his touch was really heavy because he was a little lazy getting to the pass or he was a bit sloppy with his pass. even their goal was him dithering on the ball a bit, it's the same reason I don't like Lansbury, they just look .like they do a couple of good things and think "that's enough for now" and take it easy for a couple of minutes.
It was a good performance though and I think we were well worth the 4 goals, McKirdy worked his arse off and was always involved, Green looked very good but tired badly (which is understandable).
-
I thought Tshibola did ok apart from the error for their goal.
Could we not coach him rather than try and send him off on loan ??
Coaching suggests it’s something physical we can improve. It’s more in his head and the fact that he doesn’t give enough of a fuck.

so frustrating then , because , he wont get a bigger opportunity than this !!
-
He had an opportunity to take make the most of his potential. Compare and contrast to Dele Alli. You could say he was better than Tshibola at Mk Dons but what is absolute certain is that he grabbed his opportunity at Spurs and became the brilliant player he is today. It’s about attitude and desire and Tshibola just doesn’t have enough of it. File with Ireland, Stephen.
-
Gave the Saints a good seeing to but look around at their setup and compare it to Bodymoor Heath- Our facilities
Other than the frontage of the academy building that has the Villa badge on it are very very poor. Please drive HS2 right through it as a catalyst to start again.
-
What are the big differences. Bodymoor was state of the art in 2006.
-
I was wondering that, the pitch at Soton looked pretty poor. Our training facilities are better than most aren’t they?
-

Total number of full size 4G pitches, type size and number of indoor pitches , facilities surrounding main training pitch ( look at the Saint’s and you will see covered seating etc for spectators which doesn’t exist at BMH) facilities for families of academy youth players ( same it doesn’t sound a lot but when you drop your seven year old off to play in a tournament
funnily enough how you are treated to basics such as waiting/ refreshment / viewing areas is a reflection on our club and ours is poor ) Yes we’re better than Stoke but pop up to Derby and their whole set up is first class from layout, types of pitch, acreage of site and family / player facilities and how welcoming they are. I’ve got chance to go and see Man City’s set up soon and from what I have seen on social media / media I think I’ll be coming home with an even lower opinion of our training base.
In honesty It’s a bit like the rest of the club including Villa Park in that it is good but slipping backwards down the pecking order. Doug purchased BMH in the 70’s and whilst Randy gave it a boost that’s akin to you putting an extension on an unsuitable house instead of rebuilding from scratch . Just my opinion but that’s what I see.
-
Thanks for the reply, I did some work for Derby a few years ago and they were in the process of building theirs so it’s brand new. I’m not sure that comparing anything we do with Man City is going to help, they are miles away from us.
Seems like we may very well be slipping behind the very best or the very newest but isn’t that natural given our current position.

U23s playing WBA in Premier League Cup this evening. KO 7-00pm. Winning 2-0 through Green and O'Hare. RHM and Davis on team
-
Now 0-3. Green's second goal of night
-
Villa Youth were losing 1-0 to Bury with 10 mins to go when I left - not overly impressed with the team on show -Bury wanted it more
-
The team at Walsall made mugs of Olbiyun. Nyom was an over age player and got subbed at half time to save further embarrassment at the hands of Green.
-
Was at the Bury match and have to say Bury were by far the better side and should have won by more than a single goal Very disappointed with the Villa .
-
The U23's beat Middlesborough 4-0 yesterday. It sees them currently top of the league, the Russian got two.

Unfortunately Cam might be out for the rest of the season. He hurt his ankle during PE at school a couple of weeks ago so they sent him to the Manor Hospital for an x-ray where they diagnosed mild ligament damage and sent him home with no strapping or support. The next day at BMH, they sent him straight to the first team doctor who arranged for an immediate scan at Little Aston where they found three stress fractures in his foot, a fracture in his ankle and severe ligament damage. He is now on crutches with his foot in a surgical boot. He is due to see a consultant this afternoon for a review. They are not too fussed about the stress fractures as they will heal naturally, it is more the damage to his ligaments.
-
Poor lad. Send him our best.

Suggests that RHM and Green will be on the bench at the weekend then.
-
U23s playing Wolves at BMH tonight ko 7-00pm
Team sheet on the Brum Mail web site live text but don't know how to "copy and post" on here.
O'Hare and RHM start so they won't feature tomorrow night then.
-
Viila 2-0 up after 20 mins. RHM after 10 and then Blackett-Taylor after 20. Strong Wolves side though, apparently.
-
2-1 now.
-
3-1 now .. half-time
-
4-1. I don't know the scorer.
Edit: O'Hare
-
Aren’t any of these lads not worthy of a place on our bench?
-
6-1 now. Knibbs and Prosser
-
Callum O’Hare for sure. Good to see RHM getting fitter and scoring again. I like Jack Doyle-Hayes too. With Green also we have some good kids coming through. We need to start to introducing them more to the first team. Not all at once but options off the bench at minimum.
-
I really would have thought we might want O’Hare on the bench tomorrow. He can play from the left for a start and we’re lacking a bit of guile with the current injuries
-
100% right.
-
Good performance again from the U23's in the freezing cold... winning 3-0 against Ipswich and now in the knockout stages. Interestingly there was no RHM or O'hare in the team.
-
You’d hope they’ll both be in the traveling squad to Sheffield although in RHM case it might be part of the phasing back into regular football to not play every match
-
The U23s beat Ipswich last night 3-0 in the Premier League Cup. Not a bad week for the young lions, 2 convincing wins, scored 9 and conceded 1. Here is the link to the club's OS match report and team.

It drives me nuts that it isn’t easier to get highlights for all U23 games off the OS or the clubs Youtube page.
-
Under 23s beat Reading 3-1 tonight
-
Under 23s beat Reading 3-1 tonight
Two own goals and one for the Russian after being one down.
-
Freezing night, but the U23s did it again, 2-0. First goal by Mooney after 45 seconds from a great through ball. Thought Blackburn were better on the night, strong side, but O'Hare's low shot at the edge of the box sealed it for the good guys.
-
Villa Under 23s won their sixth game on the trot this afternoon against a Stoke team including Berahino ,Wimmer and our dear old Stephen Ireland ,Villa ran out comfortable winners with two goals from RHM and another one from Calum O'Hare in the first half .Well done lads
-
kids are 1-0 down after 15-20mins, penalty and Lyden was booked for the challenge.
-
RHM scores a 95th equaliser to take it to extra time.
-
Rushian scores again to put us in front.
-
We won 2-1. Great effort lads.
-
Well done kids....more balls than the grown ups.
-
RHM really is looking the part now, he's regularly scoring important goals now. He really needs to be in the main squad.
-
Yes with 2 home games so close together this week I'd definitely like to see RHM involved for Friday.
-
Good man Rushian. I'm willing him to do well for us more than any player since Luke Moore. Hopefully things turn out better this time. I'd settle for him scoring a hat-trick against Middlesbrough which Luke managed, in the play-off (which Luke had no reason to manage).
-
Well done the U23s winning 2-1 at Middlesbrough last night That is seven wins on the trot now and RHM scoring a couple for the second game running . 14 Yellow cards in the game so sounds like it was a hard fought game .If only the first team had as much fight
-

RHM has 9 in 8 for the u23s now, not much more him or O'Hare can do to earn a place in the senior squad.
-
I guess that's the one good thing about not going up - those two will finally get proper runs in the team.
-
RHM scores a 95th equaliser to take it to extra time.
Jeez - a 95th, and he still can't get into the first-team squad?!!
Was it a cricket score?

Well he's not getting a chance in the first team so he's trying his luck at Edgbaston ;-)

Just got back from watching our U12, U13, U14 teams play at the Bournemouth Academy. Many of the Villa players played up a year. We won 2 and lost one. I spoke to a number of the parents who had travelled down and they were very positive about our academy. One chap lives in Northampton and has to take his son three times a week to Bodymore Heath. This half term, he has travelled to Cardiff, Bournemouth and Everton with his son to watch the games. That's a dedicated parent!
I coach an U14 and U16 team and get to watch quite a lot of local academy football, mainly at Yeovil. I was particularly keen to see our U14's who won 5-0. Interestingly they, like the other two age groups, played 343. Playing out from the back, through the thirds, keeping possession, etc, etc. It was great to watch. Hopefully some day our first team will have a manager who plays the same way.
Living down South I don't get the chance to see our Youth Teams play, but I would certainty recommended it to any Villa fan.

I think that's the villa engine in practice.

The RHM volley on about 1:25 is lovely, brilliant technique.
In the game the first is the sort of poachers effort that we just don't seem to score many of. For the second it's hard to tell if it's good movement or terrible defending but he took the chance well.
Aside from that I'd forgotten all about Lyden but he's another youngster that I'd like to see more of, from what I've seen he's got a good engine and picks up a decent number of goals so he could probably do most of the job that Hourihane is doing and hopefully add a bit of energy.
-
I've always liked Lyden -good first touch- but he's very injury prone.
-
Away at Ewood park tomorrow. If we win chance we could still pip them for the title. Looking forward to seeing the young guns
-

Just checked the rovers website and entry is free. We are currently 7 points behind them with a game in hand
-
0-0 after 30 mins. Match can be followed on the club official twitter feed. Don't have a twitter account -just googled it.
Keinan Davis is playing along with RHM and O'Hare.
-
At HT Villa lead 1-0. Lyden scored on 45+1.
-
Blackburn been the better team had a good 10 mins spell. O hare not impressesed so far
-
finished 0-1 so that's 8 wins on the bounce and the title is still possible, we're 4 behind with a game in hand, the problem is there's only 1 game left for blackburn so they just have to win that.
The game in hand is against a very poor Newcastle team and 2nd (and therefore playoffs) is guaranteed after tonight. When you consider most of our regulars are 18-20 and this is a U23 competition we should be very proud of the kids.
Edited, didn't know there were playoffs, that's a bit shit in a 12 team league like this.
-
Suliman and Bedeau stand out players both bulking out and shouldn't be far off a 1st team run out
-
Suliman and Bedeau stand out players both bulking out and shouldn't be far off a 1st team run out
I hope so, Suliman I've liked for a while because I think he reads the game well for his age and Bedeau seems to be a bit more of a battler, they look a good pairing.
-
When you consider that Bedeau is nearly 2 years younger than Suliman, that is very encouraging.
Bedeau was 18 last Christmas - Suliman was 20 in January
-

Bedeau is taller and stronger, that's a big leveller at that age.
-
Just got back from Ewood Park Another win, that is 8 on the trot now. Villa really had to work for this win. It was like the Alamo at times but these Villa boys don't know when they are beat .Even the ref and linesman giving them every decision and playing nearly 7 added minutes could'nt stop us. I think we had to take RHM off before he got sent off as he came in for some rough treatment from their central defenders . Lyden took his goal well, good to see him fit and playing again
-
Is Bedau the kid we got from Bury?

U23's Lost tonight 2-0 away to Newcastle.

Disappointing night for Villa U23 Strange team selection by McDonald/Delaney .Six of the team who played at Blackburn played but Borg who made the goal,Suliman who was one of the best players on the pitch ,Lyden who scored the goal,Davies and RHM all left out .So play offs it is

Bits I've seen whole heartedly agree. I think could well depend on league we're in next season as to first team chances. However like to thing Bree to will be challenging which ever division in part to non renewal of Hutton contract.
-
Tonight's U23 game is on the youtube channel if anyone fancies watching the babbies.
-
1-0 to Norwich after 22 mins.
-
RHM looking a bit off and disinterested at the moment
-
RHM looking a bit off and disinterested at the moment
It's the final pass and decision-making that is slightly off, throughout the team. Norwich look useful.
-
Looking at the team list this is a younger side than normal with 3-4 regulars getting a rest, much like the last game, which is sensible given it's a dead game and we have the cup semi on Friday.
Odutayo on the bench, hope he gets on because I've heard a lot of good things about him.

Yes, the Naarwich players generally seem a little more physical.

After 10 minutes of watching I agree, especially the back 4 who are bullying Mooney a bit. To be more specific this defence looks like a group that haven't played together much, Suliman is doing pretty well though, he reads the game very well for someone at this level and he's very composed. I stand by my belief that he's going to be a very good defender for us in a few years.
-

Coming on now.

Final score anyone?
-
If finished 0-1.
-
RHM disappointing looks nowhere near first team quality.

RHM disappointing looks nowhere near first team quality.
And yet he did in his previous half dozen games /most of the season by all accounts.
-
The play off game is against Reading U23's at Villa Park on Tuesday 1st May at 7pm.
This semi-final is a one legged game and will be screened live on the clubs official YouTube channel if you can't get to the game
-
Into the final. Played excellent 2nd half and extra time. RHM with 2 good finishes
-
U23s reached PL Cup Final tonight. Beat Leicester City 3-2 at their place after extra time.
Jack Clarke & RHM (2). Referee reversed a penalty awarded to Leicester after OHare apparently protested that Sarkic fouled their player outside the box.

In fairness it was the right decision. Even the Leicester commentators agreed if not a bit baffled why he reversed the decision
-
Well done to the U23s on winning at Leicester tonight and reaching the Premier League Cup Final ,where they will meet Swansea .Good to see RHM back on the goal trail I have a feeling our name is on this cup.We scored in the 5th minute of stoppage time at Boro in the last round and tonight the referee gave Leicester a pen in the last minute and then after Villa protests changed his mind and gave a free kick instead .

Leicester City 2 Aston Villa 3 RECAP: Hepburn-Murphy sends Villa U23s through to the PL Cup final
Alex Dicken reports from the King Power as AVFC bid to reach the Premier League Cup final
A stunning performance from Aston Villa’s second string saw them remain on course for a wonderful promotion and cup double.
Their Premier League 2 play-off clash against Reading was firmly on the backburner this evening though as Jack Clarke and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy fired them to a stunning win over Leicester City at the King Power.
Clarke gave Villa the lead after 75 minutes before 31-year-old Yohan Benalouane - gaining minutes for the Foxes’ U23s - slammed home a header five minutes later.
Leicester thought they had a penalty when Villa ‘keeper Matija Sarkic brought down substitute Admiral Muskwe at the death but referee Joe Hull bizarrely reversed his decision and awarded a free-kick to the hosts.
That came to nothing and Villa made Leicester pay early in extra-time as Isaiah Bazeley-Graham swept a beautiful pass through for Hepburn-Murphy to round Daniel Iversen and tap home.
The striker wasn’t done and looked to have wrapped up a place in the Premier League Cup final with a stunning second. But George Thomas had other ideas and pulled a late goal back for Leicester.
The Foxes couldn’t deny Villa a place in the final, though, and Kevin MacDonald’s side will meet either Swansea City or Sheffield United.

Rusholme Rushian!
-
When is the Final and is it at Villa Park?
-
According to the Reading site, the winners tomorrow night will play Brighton at Brighton .
-
Eh? So we are only in the semis?
-
No, that's the semis for the playoffs. We're in the final for the cup.
-
The Reading site meant if they get through they will be at Brighton in the play off final - if we win tomorrow we will be at home to Brighton as the higher placed seed.
-
So where and when is the cup final?
-
So where and when is the cup final?
Friday at the Liberty Stadium
-
Many thanks.
So we have to play the Cup Final and, potentially, the Playoff Final away? That's a bit rubbish. Oh well, hopefully it'll be streamed on the Villa website.
Edit: didn't read Richard's post properly. We would be at home if we make the Playoff Final. Might pop along depending on the date.
-
Reading scored from a free kick as soon as I started watching. 0-1 after an hour.
-
2-1 to the Villa now. The Russian and Suliman.
-

Typical! I stopped watching because I thought I'd jinxed it.
-
RHM's goal was a lovely finish, he's in great form and is a lovely player to watch when he breaks away behind the defence.
-
2-2 now.
-
Every time I start watching Reading score. 2-2 now. I'm going to switch off and check the score at full time.
-
2-2, no idea what the goal was like (header from a corner I think) because the cameraman is fucking shite and completely missed it. Oh and theis reading team have 3-4 arseholes, the 9 in particular.
-
3-2 to us now.
-
aaaaaaaaaand 3-3
-
this 2nd half has been mad
-
Holy Crap RHM injurytime wondergoal
-
oh my, that's special, 4-3 the russian with his 2nd 5mins into injury time.
-
I've finally seen a Villa goal. RHM walked through the whole of the Reading defence and scored the winner in the 93rd minute.
-
If RHM isn't involved in the play-offs it's a disgrace, ignoring someone in this form is ridiculous.
-
Bollocks! Missed it. Serves me right for flicking between channels.
-
Watch from about here (https://youtu.be/RCZ2ToMEQYI?t=1h57m9s) to see the winner, it's worth it.
-
He was superb when he came on. Both his goals were well taken too.
-

That was excellent. Thanks Paul, much appreciated.
-

Absolutely, 2 goals and an assist as a halftime sub and could easily have had a couple more, brilliant performance from him. If anyone isn't sure about him I recommend watching that second half.
I'd love to see him play right of a 3 with Kodjia and Grabban (and Jack in behind), we'd terrify any team in the championship with the skill and pace they'd bring.
-
I was wondering if we’d see him against Millwall. Though it would mean missing the play off final.
I’d be happy to cash in on hogan and promote RHM - if we could get a big enough fee.
Hard to see how RHM will be involved in the play offs at the moment. There are three strikers ahead of him
-
That second half was a great watch! Loved that winner!
-
He's only 20 in August 2018 - what exactly is his peak ??
I've not seen a striker like him that I can recall..
-

If one of those is Hogan then it's a terrible decision.
-
What a great game. Some of the best games I ever see at Villa Park are the Youth and Reserve games. Nearly always good football played, free to get in for Season Ticket holders or a couple of quid if you haven't got one, you can park right outside and we win more than we lose.
I would recommend it.
RHM is on fire at the moment. Sometimes after games I think to myself that He didn't play very well and then I think "but He did score two goals" I thought Prosser, Jack Clark and Doyle Hayes did very well in midfield tonight and as a proud Brummie it was nice to see five of the front six that finished were local lads.
-
Look forward to watching that tomorrow.
-
I'm the only fucker who gave him a H&V Academy Player of the Year ahead of O'Hare.
-
Hats off to RHM I was disappointed when i saw he had been left on the bench and Davies and Green were playing .This kid is a natural goalscorer while i am afraid Davies and Green are not .As soon as he came on the Villa looked far more of a threat This kid is the best young goalscorer i have seen since Luke Moore .Well done the U23s
-
Watched the last 30 mins we were ace. My kids loving watching them and hope the final is on a decent day we can down to watch
-

He's great isn't he. Could be our secret weapon in the playoffs.
-
He was superb when he came on. Both his goals were well taken too.
Having RHM and Davis behind Kodjia and hopefully Grabban isn't a bad way to go in 2018/19. Turf the two stiffs who we spent the best of 20m on #FFS
-
the full match is available to view on the OS. Both of RHM's goals were outstanding. He is a very talented young man.
-
There was a game on youtube earlier, turned it off after an hour as it was crap. Saved myself 30 mins of 0-0 tedium.
-
Just saw his winning goal. The lad seems to have something special, should have been on the bench more in recent weeks instead of 5 central midfielders.

Looking forward to seeing Bevan and Doyle-Harris play.
-
I was impressed by Corey Blackett-Taylor's close control and dribbling ability in that first half but not sure he should have started doing it on the edge of his own penalty area.
-
Nearly.
-
OHare so close there!
-
We are head and shoulders better than this rabble.
-
Very impressed with Bazeley-Graham? no. 2.
-
Giving the ball away, though.
Gotta keep it tighter.
-
Can’t believe how loose the refereeing is - anything seems to go.
-
Can’t believe how loose the refereeing is - anything seems to go.
Every player is looking tired, he's probably cutting some slack.
-
I thought that was a pen so good job he is letting stuff go.
-
I note the throw-ins are in the same mould as the first team. Not encouraging.
-
I’ve watched a bit of this and the second half of the game during the week
JDH the pick today for me
RHM was great in the week but quite poor today. Save for a couple of very nice runs that set up brilliant chances for others
Can’t say I thought O’Hare has been great in either game
Green looks very rusty. Doubt he’ll be able to contribute in the play offs
The right winger has very quick feet and lovely skils - possibly an erratic pass though
-
That was crap from RHM. Should have won it there.
-
Can very much see RHM getting the winner on the break though
-
That was crap from RHM. Should have won it there.
Didnt commit the keeper; a little naive.
-
Very impressed with Bazeley-Graham? no. 2.
Think he has been outstanding.
-
I agree on Bazeley-Graham, he's looked solid every time I've seen them but he's been excellent tonight. I think Clarke and Doyle-Hayes have bossed things in midfield as well.
RHM should've done better at the end but I think the Cox chance a few minutes before was the big one, foot through it into the bottom left (as we were attacking) and the keeper would've been totally off balance trying to get back across.
Swansea seem to have more pace and be a bit bigger but our players have much better technique. Their 6 has been all over RHM, pulling and pushing him all game. The comedy dive by their 7 was ridiculous.
-
Bizarre giveaway from tight-back there, nearly resulting in a very soft goal.
-
Frustrating lack of close control and possession, there.
-
Bizarre giveaway from tight-back there, nearly resulting in a very soft goal.
My fault, I dared to compliment him. He looks fucking knackered tbh.
-
RHM looked totally spent.
-
They all look knackered. Most of the touches are now shocking
RHM is clearly a massive threat, but he’s a bit of a head down bill in a china shop type on today’s evidence
-
The 2 Villa CB have done well.
-
This should be 5-5, not 0-0.
-
Yeah it’s like a basketball game
The fact we’ve not really been able to pick the final ball or capitalise, given that openness, suggests to me that Bruce may have been right not to throw the kids in more. But some of these kids really should be on loan. It would force them to be better decision makers and to be be more ruthless
-

Don't forget that a lot of these players played on Tuesday, the lack of sharpness is more likely a fitness thing than anything else, they certainly looked a lot less wasteful in the area the last few months.
-
That wasn't a elbow to flatten Bevan but it was a swinging arm and he took a hand or forearm in the face by the look of it. Definitely should've been a foul.

Penalties it is.

No worries, thought he played really well out of position, he's one I'd have around the first team squad. I think Clarke is the one that is really exciting in midfield, lovely feet, great eye for a pass and works his tits off.

Callum O'Hare started it
No wonder they can't can't get in the first team!
What's Richards excuse?
In his case "selfie stick" would be superfluous.

Well done Villa U23 for winning the Premier League Cup Tonight .Hard fought game which to be fair could have gone either way Both sides played 120 mins on Tuesday night and it showed i think as the game wore on Fair play to Swansea for leaving the live stream on for the presentation of the trophy

Yes I thought that. It was great to see the presentation.
Well done lads!
-
Well done to the young lions tonight.
Glad all the lads that have played a part in the cup throughout the season, had a chance to see it through.
As much as I want O'Hare, RHM, Clark etc to involved in the 1st team more, I'm happy they've lifted a cup tonight instead of being in the squad for the last 1st team game at Millwall.
The club could of chosen to use a few youngsters for the Millwall game, in which case they would of been rested tonight.

Spot on - great for the club and hopefully we will be celebrating even more silverware at the end of May - well done to Swansea for showing the presentation
-
Well done to the babbies, they've been playing liquid football in recent weeks, last night they had to grind it out away to a team playing at a higher level which they'll learn a lot from. The taste of success should keep them hungry too.
Was it not on avtv?

From PRAVDA
Find below an explanation of the Villa v Brighton U23 Play-Off Final date, which is set to take place on the same day as our first team Play-Off away leg at Middlesbrough.
The scheduling of the match was determined by the Premier League.
Aston Villa submitted a request for the final to take place outside the designated dates of the 4th to 7th May due to our U23s participating on the Premier League Cup Final on 4th May.
Unfortunately, Brighton have a Sussex Senior Cup Final against Crawley Town on Wednesday 9th May, which we were advised could not be rescheduled thus preventing the fixture from taking place this week.
Competition rules state that the final must be played at the home venue of the highest-placed Play-Off finisher.
With our second-leg Championship play-off tie against Middlesbrough taking place on Tuesday 15th May, the fixture couldn’t take place beyond Saturday to allow sufficient time for the pitch at Villa Park to be prepared properly for the first-team.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
The club is currently working on broadcasting the game live on our media channels for supporters who are unable to attend due to travelling to Middlesbrough for the Play-Off first leg.
-
Sussex Senior Cup?! We should bring back that Brum competition that Date Cooper misses, just to give us more bargaining power.

Is that what he’s calling himself now, the old smoothy?

Sussex Senior Cup?! We should bring back that Brum competition that Date Cooper misses, just to give us more bargaining power.
I went to the final of the Birmingham Senior Cup last night. Stourbridge beat Hednesford 2-1 after extra time, but I didn't see them win it because I fucked off back to the pub on 90 minutes.
-
Ha, what are the odds? Sorry, Dave (Date would be good if you were a lothario).
-
8 minutes gone in the u23s play off semi. Still 0-0 for now.
-
Its showing live on OS and I am not a subscriber to the tv bit
-
22 mins BHA just scored after hitting the post minutes before.
-
What's with the crazy subtitles?
-
Frustrating so far, we have played well but they've had the better chances and one led to the goal.
-
Halftime 0-1
-
Its on YouTube too
Bit disappointing so far. JDH passes well. RHM, green and O’Hare have done a couple of things each. The sub who came on looks a bit of a cart horse. No way would you put the keeper or any of the defenders anywhere near the first team for a while
-
We just had a goal disallowed offside.
-
0-2 now
-
really frustrating game/performance, we could easily be 2-3 up ourselves but the key moments have all gone their way.
-
I keep reading how O’Hare is sensational and has to be in the first team
I’ve watched three U23 games of late. He hasn’t been anywhere near first team ready. A dip in form?
-
Full Time 0-2

Yep, he's not the same player as he was a few months back. Nothing seems to be going for him right now.
-
Hopefully just a blip
But it also reminds me just how sensational Jack Grealish was at 19 when he came through
Theee kids have to be on loan next year. The gap from under 23 to first team is too much
-
Disappointing end to the season for the U23 against Brighton sadly Not much between the teams but i felt Brighton got all the breaks.Lyden having to go off,RHM being judged offside after scoring and just not getting the run of the ball .Still it has been a good season Well done Villa

The young Villans stormed to the top of their group with three victories from three on the first day.
Though they lost to Leicester City in the Main Cup quarter final earlier today, they dropped into contention for the Main Shield - which they won.
Villa saw off Kashima Antlers in the Main Shield semi-final by a score of 3-0 before narrowly edging out West Ham United in the final, 2-1.
The success out in Hong Kong has capped a memorable season for the claret and blue young guns.
They clinched the Premier League Cup, reached the play-off final and now have another gong to add to the ever-growing list.
-
Kashima Antlers is a great name.
-
Callum O’Hare out for ten weeks with ligament damage.
-
Cam has signed a 2 year scholarship for the U18s. So pleased for him.

That's great news. Good luck Cam.
-
Great stuff. Welcome, Cam.

Showing my ignorance here, but who is Cam?
-
Who is the giant?
-
Showing my ignorance here, but who is Cam?
Cameron Archer. One of my former pupils who started playing for my school team when he was in Reception.

In Reception? Wow!
-
Yes. He was (and is) that good. I first brought him on as a sub in a 'B' team game for 10-11 year olds. Everyone did the 'Oh, how cute' bit. About 30 seconds later after he had taken the ball round most of their players and unleashed a fierce shot which cannoned back off the inside of the post you could have heard a pin drop.
-
Congratulations Cam. Hope he goes on to great things.
-
That's great news Leeg. I will keep looking out for him. If he fulfills half of the potential he has shown through the youth ranks so far Villa could have a real star in the making. Well done Cam.
-
The giant, BTW is David Hughes, academy coach.
-
Is that the David Hughes who used to play for us? Made his debut against Liverpool I think - one nil win (Ian Taylor).
-
Bloody Hell, I'd forgotten about him.
