Title: peter jinks
Post by: keeno82 on November 03, 2016, 05:33:52 PM
Hi to all at H & V, I know it is a regular thing and it gets on some peoples nerve s sometimes but here goes. We are trying to get a minutes applause in the 23rd minute on Saturday for Pete. He started selling sweets around the pitch when he was a kid, then became a steward at villa park which he did for 30 years until ill health meant he couldn't do it anymore. That didn't stop him going, he immediately got a season ticket for the Holte near me. He passed away suddenly last Saturday aged 54. Hope you will all join in for a good man who worked very hard for our club (for many years voluntarily) Thank you

Is, or was, his dad a Witton Lane steward who then became a steward in the boxes or something like that?

I do think we have too many of these. However, I don't mind it for a long-term club employee. I'll join in and so will everyone else, I expect.

I'm hoping to be at the match, and will join in if it happens, but there are far, far too many of these, and they need to stop.  No offence to the family intended.

Possibly, the club could find a way of acknowledging these losses.  I wonder whether approaching the club pre-game might be the answer and then a minutes applause before the teams come out would be more appropriate?  That way, we could include everyone whose loved ones  were supportive of such a move.  Failing that, perhaps a regular feature in the programme, detailing losses of fans?

I do think that applauses during games should be restricted to very, very few circumstances.

Jinxy was a really good Footballer in his time and a great bloke.  He was married to Tom Ross's sister (unless I have got the wrong one)

Well known at the club and involved with Stan Petrov's charity.
Very sad that He has gone.  It is always touching when you knew someone.

RIP Mate

A true Holte Ender in the Sky.

We went in the Holte Suite after the game as the Swan was shut and there was a banner for him draped over the top table.

I used to work with Pete back in the day at VP. His wife, Lesley, is in fact Tom Ross's sister. Both Pete and Lesley worked alternatively at VP and the Sty (as Lesley was staunch Blues).
Towards the end his ill health led to him losing a good portion of his eyesight.
Was shocked when I heard the news

Nice guy and villa to the core

RIP
