Title: MT
Post by: Witton Warrior on August 17, 2014, 02:37:52 PM
Quick explanation that I can't put MT's full name up as he was a patient and therefore covered by privacy and disclosure rules but...

I worked with M from November 2012 - he had developed mental health problems after an injury at work and, despite going back, he was released by the employer.

We hit it off from the moment I visited him at home and saw the Villa memorabilia around the flat. He was very down and had no self-confidence believing himself too old to ever work again. He really missed attending the matches and would eagerly await my visits for gossip and chat about the Villa. We started a running joke that he had to buy me a pint in the Holte End with his first week's wages when I got him into work.

Well last week he was offered a job and when I saw him Friday he was full of the fact he would be up the Villa for the Hull match and we were arranging to meet up for that pint. He was in great spirits and looking forward to the new season.

This morning his brother rang me to say M passed away on Saturday evening from a suspected heart attack - he would have loved me to say it was the Villa winning that did it! He was to have started work for the first time in 18 months tomorrow.

To say I am upset is an understatement, anyone who tells you we don't care in the NHS hasn't worked with my team. I shall be having that pint with tears in my eyes at the Hull match.

As we always said when we parted "Up the Villa our kid!"

Such a sad story. Make sure you enjoy that pint WW, I am sure it's what he would have wanted.

And I have nothing but the fullest praise for the NHS, you do a marvellous job.

We do when allowed to by central government Plumbutt - the privatisation is well underway...

There are very few things that would make me get up off my overweight backside and demonstrate in support of, but one institution that instantly springs to mind is the NHS. On a personal level I have a heck of a lot to thank the NHS for. My daughter is a nurse at a hospital in Nottingham. If she gets a lunch break at a reasonable time in her 12 hour shifts, she's lucky.

That is incredibly moving WW. I don't think there are any of us who have read that who wouldn't buy you a pint at the Hull game just to say thanks on behalf of this lad's family. Well done mate.

RIP MT.

Just back from MT's funeral - it was a claret and blue affair!
Scarves, badges, flowers and even a garter (not mine!)

The eulogy made it clear how important the Villa had been to him even in the last few years when he struggled with his health - friends and family joined in claret and blue memory

Tearful to say the least

Up the Villa!

Very sad story but the last post just brought a smile to my face, WW.

I've said it before but the Villa is like an extended family. Enjoy your pint, fella.
