Title: My Nan
Post by: Mortimer's Bear on August 01, 2014, 05:57:24 PM
My nan passed away this morning. Although she hasn't set foot in Villa Park since the late 60's I still thank her for setting me on this wonderful adventure. She first took my dad down in 1958ish and thus started his life-long love affair with AVFC. He then did the same with me when I was a nipper as I will with my son. She may not have been a modern day Holte Ender but I still thank her for starting it all off.

Oh and her claim to fame was that as a young girl she fell onto a spiked fence at Villa Park and was taken by the paramedics into the Villa dressing room during half time to be treated.

RIP nan, love you.

Thoughts and condolences to you and family. :(

I think most of us have a family member that we relate to that started us on our epic adventures we are on with the Villa.

RIP

Sincere condolences.  The time frame when she started taking your Dad is just after my old man started taking me on a regular basis.  May they rest in peace.

My sincere condolences MB, I remember the passing of my Nan Burton, a huge piece of my life's jigsaw, having survived the death of her husband at the age of 34 leaving her to raise 3 children, the youngest being 8 months old ( my Uncle Richard who introduced me to the Villa).

Grandmothers are very special and I hope you find the strength to celebrate her life, she sounds as though she was a wonderful human being.

Rest in Peace.

Thanks for the kind words all.

It goes without saying I will miss her dearly as we all will but seeing my dad absolutely distraught earlier today was heartbreaking. It also happens to be my sons 4th birthday today so you can imagine how difficult it has been trying to shield him from the grief and act jovial.

The funeral was on Wesnesday, interestingly her grave is about 20 yards away from Archie Hunter, first Villa captain to lift the FA Cup.
