It really is very poor. They have so often not got the sound right for audio only events so I suppose video was always likely not to work. A service not worthy of our football club.

The radio commentary more than compensated, it was like listening to a football version of John Arlott.
Title: Re: AVTV
Post by: pauliewalnuts on July 20, 2013, 05:48:23 PM
Was it actually on proper, normal radio? Or just the audio coverage on the web site?

I listened to that a bit, and the audio quality was abysmal. It sounded like Alan Partridge doing a 1940s newsreel voiceover.
Title: Re: AVTV
Post by: GarTomas on July 20, 2013, 05:55:39 PM
Listening to the audio feed or following the one line updates - it really is a tough choice......

I find listening to commentary presented by the team in question so one sided and partisan its embarrassing.

Just on the internet, we had the cricket on with the sound down and the Villa commentary warbling in the background. Apparently there's a sale of golf stuff in the Villa store.

I used this (H&V) website for updates on the game. AVTV seems to be aimed at a very young audience. Woodward needs to shape up or ship out - he is truly appalling.

I don't think he's appalling and I want a biased commentary - it's what I'm buying.

WOODWARD OUT!!!
Ive been saying it for a few years now, but his voice goes through me. His style of presenting behind the microphone and camera is awful. Bring in the guy who used to do Fanzone on Sky Sports, At least he was a fan and you could relate to his passion for both the ups and downs of being a Villa fan.

I think Woodward is pretty awful. He's like a sub-Partridge Alan Partridge.

However, in the world of broadcasting, it's hardly a glamour job he's got, so I don't really know what people expect in a position like that?

Also, whenever I have encountered other clubs' equivalents of him (via in-house commentaries) they all sound pretty much as bad.

Title: Re: AVTV

I like Jack although they probably need to mix it up a bit and get another commentator on now and again to keep things fresh.

This is precisely why he's amazing.

'Albrighton by name, Albrighton by nature'
'BRETT HOLMAN, THE WIZARD OF OZ'

Terrible metaphors, awful nicknames, inept commentating.  He's a comedy gold mine.

Woodward could use with less funnies and more football. This guy gets to talk to Lambert & some players every week. His questions do not have to be aggressive I would just like them to be more interesting and insightful.

I'm sure I get it free but have never even bothered. From what little I've seen of it, it's divison 3 stayle jounalism....'in depth' interviews with players about their tastes in music (Phil Collins), favourite meal (pasta) etc etc ....just like Shoot! did in the 80's.

Anyone paying for this dirge should reconsider.

yeah the club sent me an email saying the deal in principle was in place but other than zebra finance confirming it the club have not said anything to me. im sure i will be fine as L3 isnt the most popular area in the holte but after sitting there for the man city game im a convert from k4/5 in the upper holte.

I've been watching some old match highlights to try and get moneys worth (or as close to as possible) before I cancel it after the friendlies.
Enjoyed being reminded that Vassell was a very skillful footballer on his day. If he only had a bit more belief, composure and a bit of aggression he'd never have left us.
Title: Re: AVTV
Post by: Toronto Villa on July 22, 2013, 05:29:32 PM
he's utterly bollocks. I can understand the need to throw in a little humour but if it's not in the least bit funny then it kind of defeats the objective. It's just corny and repetitive and the likes of Morle, McNaught and Blair, must be the most patient people in the world to listen to that drivel over and over again. If I have the misfortune of having to listen to him I almost don't want us to score to avoid the shit that he comes out with.As a PL football club you would think we could do a lot better than him.
Title: Re: AVTV

I  subscribed for the month to see some of the friendlies. Fat lot of good that has done me so far, although I did get to see the last few minutes of the Wycombe game.

Part of Woodwards problem is that his commentary seems to be dual purpose, being used both for pictures and for audio. This might explains why he often barely makes reference to what is happening on the pitch.

Aside from that he really does come up with some crass stuff. I had a look through the archive and came across an u-18 game against ManU at Carrington. He started banging on about how exciting it must be for our kids to play against them and I nearly burst a blood vessel.

We arseholed them 2-0, Jack. What an experience it must have been for the ManU lads to line up against the best academy in the country, you dickhead.

I then watched the league cup semi against ManU, and came to the conclusion that Jack is Kenneth Wolstenholme's love child.

Seems a nice enough, harmless fella - you could put up with him as a brother-in-law who visits once a year but his style is so "schoolboy trying to make an impression on work experience" that you just wish he'd do something different to alter his approach like get laid or something.

I hate him for those autoplay videos on the OS. I'd happily beat whoever insists on them to death with a mace. You go on the site to get a bit of news and Woodward's drone starts coming out my speakers scaring me stiff.

I really am discombobulated by this site as well

I hadn't used AVTV last year but decided to sign up as i wanted to follow the friendly games, i put my code in from the season pack and it said it had already been used, i then tried to log in and all my passwords didn't work, i emailed the club thing telling them all that ^ and they just reset my password. This new password logs me into the site but not into AVTV, so i gave up on that.

Then i logged in today to try and buy tickets for Walsall and it says that I don't have the history to be able to buy them, despite being a season ticket holder for 10 odd years and going at least a few away games every year, it really is baffling scenes over at www.avfc.co.uk or @avfcofficial on twitter

An apology:

Dear LEE,

We would sincerely like to apologise to AVTV subscribers for the lack of video coverage against Wycombe on Saturday.

We had billed AVTV as the “only place to watch all of our six domestic games live”. But, as you’re more than aware, the transmission did not work for our encounter at Adams Park on Saturday. Due to technical problems experienced by our website partners Perform, we were unable to deliver the service we communicated with you earlier this month. We have been in close and regular contact with Perform since Saturday and they are immensely apologetic both to us as an organisation and to our fans.

The good news is that Perform have assured us that the technical problems have now been fully rectified and we will be showing the remaining five games live as planned as part of your subscription, including Luton v Villa tonight at 7.45pm.

In the meantime, you can watch the highlights from Wycombe v Villa - plus the exclusive interviews - right now on AVTV.

I would gladly pay 4.99 a month for a decent reliable service.  I was a subscriber years ago but cancelled because of the endless technical and subscription hassles.  Seems not much has changed so am I likely to re subscribe?   No prizes for the correct answer.

Also totally agree about those bloody videos starting up automatically on the website.  End result I don't visit it.

If people are getting annoyed with the autoplaying video, go to the little panel its on and turn the volume down.

This may sound really obvious, but if you do that then it will remember the setting and stay quiet for every subsequent visit.  Same goes for every other autoplaying video on the internet if you find any more.

To apologise for the issue, we have arranged for a free month to be added to your AVTV subscription. This will be added to the end of your existing subscription and you do not need to do anything further. Perform have assured us that the technical problems have now been fully rectified and we will be showing the remaining five games live as planned as part of your subscription

Just checked my email pretty happy with that tbh.

I've started using AVTV again after about a 2 year absence, when I last used it you could watch games from as early as 03/04ish, I went to have a watch of some of the old derbies last night and they only go as far back as 2009ish now. They seem to have just decided they aren't going to let 5 or 6 seasons be shown on there anymore

Whats up with that?

As I renewed my ST pretty much as soon as they announced the prices (March/April?), I will be pretty unimpressed if I have a gap in coverage. Why put an expiry date in before all the new packs a out?

Download the trial versions of 'puffin' and iswift/iswifter app to see which one works best for you. Use their browsers to get to AVTV. You could also buy photon app (no option of a trial, but you're going to have to pay anyway, only £2.99). I can guarantee they work, a tad temperamental at times but trial it first when a game is on then you can decide.

Or if its jailbroken you'll know where to go to get them free 😉

Ian, the sport that he is, walked over to the window, pressed his face up against it and preceded to give the thrilled woman a, er, window snog.

Kinda disconcerting watching him in ecstacy in bed, half-naked underneath his Villa duvet, excitedly shouting "A ripper! A dipper! The keeper done like a kipper - Matty Lowton!!!"

I dunno, sometimes I think commentators must get some sort of sexual frisson out of shit puns and phrases. The way they're shoe-horned into reports i.e. on Sky Sports News where the opening shot might be of something like a tractor on a pitch pre-season and the dickhead speaker spouting that the team in question are hoping that the harvest bears plenty of fruit for the season ahead or that they're hoping to "drive forward" this season.

Was there some edict long ago meaning this was the way to frame a report? Fair enough if it's funny. But when the comparisons are so laughably lame you wonder why they bother. I mean, Damon Green doesn't go in for that shite, does he?

New feature this week. An analysis of the opposition by Steve Froggatt. Surprisingly good.

Yeah, I don't often bother watching the pre-match shows any more (because they tend to be boring/terrible) but it was pretty good.

Although he said that there was no benefit to having wingers that play on the opposite side to their preferred foot - I'm no student of tactics, but I always thought the idea was that they could cut inside and shoot?

Also it was interesting what Froggatt said about how to play against Norwich - essentially that their strength is in their two holding midfielders, so if you want to beat them then you have to play with width.  Please start Albrighton Lambert!

Against decent defenders, they can only cut inside and shoot if they are also capable of going past on the outside and getting a cross in with their weaker foot. Otherwise, a decent full back will "show them" the flank  i.e. force them outside "all day long".

When he first started out in punditry, SF was not very good at all, but he is honed his craft. Fair play to him.

Yeah I think his point was when you have two wingers off their preferred foot then they both cut in losing you your width.

Then because of your indifference Des you are missing out on what is after all a freebie to season ticket holders. If you are paying a subscription then your are definitely daft.  I had similar problems a couple of year ago which were quickly and pleasantly solved by email to support. I emailed them and they sent me a code to put in. I just tried it out watching highlights of Villa 6 Blackburn 4.

If any ST holder is too lazy to write their own email you can just C&P this if you like...

To: customerservice@performgroup.com

"Dear Sir/Madam,

I was trying to log on to AVTV via the Aston Villa club website to ensure that I will be able to watch the team's pre-season games which start tomorrow.

It says I don't have an active subscription but, as I understand it, I should get access free as I am a season ticket holder (both for the previous and the upcoming season).

It asks for a promo code but I don't have it.

FYI, my details for the address and season ticket are as follows..."

Then put your details in.

Finish off with...

"Boomshanka, love and hugs,

Emile

From the O/S
Our new season ticket holders for the 2014-15 campaign have been emailed start-up codes for AVTV this morning.

This ensures you will receive full access ahead of the live streaming of tonight's Mansfield v Villa friendly encounter.

We are also screening our first-team matches against Chesterfield, Walsall and Parma live on the club's in-house television channel.

New season ticket holders also can enjoy all the news and views surrounding the USA Tour 2014, including special features, press conferences, player interviews, audio commentary and match highlights.

Of course, your AVTV access will also enable you to look over all the pre-season videos currently on site, including an exclusive with manager Paul Lambert on the season ahead and an in-depth chat with Jores Okore about his return to full fitness.

There are also the first video interviews with newboys Joe Cole, Philippe Senderos and Kieran Richardson.

I think i get charged about £4 a month for it which is hardly worth moaning about

No, the email address is not actually invalid.  I use it every day.

I've got this going on too! I'm hoping it will work from tomorrow when my old reg expires.

I suspect the only games you'll be able to watch will be the ones Sky choose to televise.

I found this link for watching the Championship in America. No sure if it'll be any good.

Unlikely. AVTV have always been pretty lazy. For example you could see every premier league Aston Villa game replayed in full. using AVTV's stream, on spanish TV over here when we were in the premier league, but never on AVTV itself (yeah crazy I know). This generally was not an issue because the non AVTV Premier Lgeaue coverage in the states is excellent, way better than the UK. You can watch every single PL game live

For the Championship even though the rights are even easier I assume AVTV will continue to take the lazy path and either only show highlights or crappy audio coverage only during games.

Beyond that Championship coverage in the states is relatively poor with usually 3 games or so each week.

Unless AVTV is going to miraculously start taking their job seriously I am afraid we are going to have less games to watch :(

Agreed. And just like every year instead of putting up the full games (which they have) they instead chop it down to highlights.

This year it is doubly irritating knowing there is the full game footage right there but we cannot watch it because AVTV chooses not to show it and because we are in the Championship there are few streams of the full game out there archived. So frustrating.

As far as I am aware there are none. There are non for the Premier league (see ChelseaTV etc) so I doubt there are any for the Championship.

Its just pure lazyness from AVTV as far as anyone can tell. Hopefully Xia can get round to rooting out the slackers there that after he is done with the squad.

Looks like the entire media team has been cut massively, noticed before the game on Tuesday, they didn't have a pitch side camera showing the mascots on the big screen, just there names appeared. So I imagine the pitch side camera guy was one of the casulaites. I thought everything that appeared on the screens was a little amateurish compared to seasons past.
Title: Re: AVTV
Post by: SoccerHQ on August 20, 2016, 10:39:50 AM
They just take the feed from the tv coverage for the screen. In the championship you've only got one camera angle unless it's covered as a tv game.

Only one pitch announcer aswell as last season Woodward used to do the midweek games so now the long serving PA Dave something has to do it.

I subscribe to AVTV and to be honest, it's pants. I used to like the pre match shows - even though the team were dire, but they are gone. Half the time video content (press conferences etc) turn up on the Villa FB page, or YouTube before the official site/AVTV and then are edited to death. The lady who kind of replaced Jack seems pretty good, even asks pertinent questions, but features are few and far between. It would be interesting to know if there are very few subscribers and so the club now view this as a free service to season ticket holders, hence the sort of bare bones approach. Its a shame, as it could be so much more!
Title: Re: AVTV
Post by: SoccerHQ on October 23, 2016, 09:14:58 AM
Yeah the club seem to be using Facebook a lot more now which is logical.

I don't subscribe to AVTV nor have ever seen the point but really for anything to significantly pop up on there I think you'll have to wait until we get back in the prem again or maybe there might be a better product for next season.

AVTV is intent on providing a third class service even after all these years of fans badgering them to improve by showing the full games not highlights.

Even Fulham shows the full games afterwards.

From that Fulham website, there's an article with their manager's comments after the game on Saturday. Sour grapes or are we bullies who don't play football right?

Quote
“We played very well first 45 minutes but we didn’t play behind Aston Villa in the second half. We tried to fix the problem but Aston Villa pushed us without the ball, pressed us, and won the game with muscle, and won the game without the ball.

“We weren’t solid enough, we showed less ambition and a lack of concentration. We didn’t play with enough personality second half and we paid a very expensive price.”

Once again, Fulham cruised the possession stakes, but Jokanović is keen to see his side add more of an edge to their game.

“I like to have possession of the ball,” he said. “I like trying to dominate the game, but it’s necessary to be solid, strong. Fouling is part of football.

“Aston Villa today are a team who use these rules very well, and we have to be stronger. This is the Championship, this is England, and we have to know where we are. Sometimes we are a little bit confused.”

For all their possession I don't think they got anywhere near our goal till about a minute before halftime and they didn't improve much second half either. What did they expect us to do, hand them the ball then bow down while letting them waltz through the pitch and score goal after goal? Bunch of titty babies.

The club is doing a survey, probably to everyone whose email they have about AVTV next year. If you could help me (and possibly other fans) out and answer it I would appreciate it. A lot of the questions are whether AVTV should show full game replays next season if you could indicate you are in favour that would be even nicer. Other clubs do this and it means an awful lot to those of us overseas or in the UK who cannot get to games.  Cheers.

B. Would the home club not have a say in it ?

The footage is already available from somewhere (the highlights are on AVTV every week), also I believe Fulham brings their own gear so we could do the same.

In the survey they talk about a few things outside of full game replays including some live games. I assume they know what the rights are.

It's got my vote, ciggiesnbeer, much as the radio broadcast serves as a 'fix' when we are not on TV, to be able to see all our games ( from abroad) , even on a delayed basis, would be a real bonus........Godzvilla! ( The mountains of Russia...you say ?! )

I think the Derby chairman was making the point a while back that for all the money and big clubs and big players in the league, just having one camera angle at the 3pm non TV games is a pretty amateurish way of doing things.

On my Bet 365 account I can watch any French, Italian, German or Spanish second division game and they are all properly covered. Numerous camera angles, multiple replays etc just like a premier league game.

It just seems odd to me a high profile game like SHA on Sunday just had one camera following the action which limits the ability to screen it elsewhere. Reminds me of football coverage in the 70s and 80s.

Well, those hopes dashed ...that bit of good news ( for we ex-pats) didn't last long , if it's  now left in the hands of AVTV ,then we can kiss any thoughts of watching the Villa in foreign climes, adiós !....Godzvilla!

" Aston Villa and Leeds United are two of 11 Football League clubs who have declined to be involved with the EFL’s iFollow service deal.
iFollow is a streaming service that allows subscribers based outside of the UK and Ireland to watch up to 46 of their club’s league games live in HD at a cost £110 per season.
61 of the 72 Football League clubs agreed to be a part of the serve whilst Accrington Stanley, Birmingham City, Bristol City, Charlton Athletic, Derby County, Fulham, Newcastle United, QPR and Wolverhampton Wanderers all declined, meaning they can launch their own independent services, if they so wish.

It appears that Villa might be interested in launching their own unique service, but this is yet to be confirmed".

I've got the full subscription and it's been working fine up until the Fulham game, now for some reason I can only get audio commentary on my laptop not video.
Through the app on my iphone I can get the video but would prefer to watch on the bigger screen on my laptop.
Anyone else experienced the same?

Thanks!

It's working fine for me right now, though during the live stream on Saturday it stopped for about 5 minutes right when we scored the second. It did eventually come back though.

The firsts half the camera shake was really annoying. There were a couple of times I had to stop and reboot.
The commentary is deadly dull.

Thanks! I just checked it out, it's letting me watch that but not live on saturday, weird.
Hopefully it's just a blip and normal service resumes next game.
Crap watching on a phone!

Yeh that is weird. Lame suggestion I know but try swapping out browsers. For whatever reason AVTV doesnt work with Safari at home, I must use chrome. I have heard other folks say the opposite so changing out browsers may help.

Is the game on today as it doesn't look like Espn is showing it?

Nope, Sky are showing it in the UK and I'm sure the deal was that AVTV could only show games which weren't selected by other broadcasters.

Sorry to resurrect this sorry topic but I've this misfortune to follow us via 'it'. I'm limited to watching on an Amazon tablet this weekend. Any idea how to add the app or is it possible to stream via the website. Sorry I have no ability with technology

Overall, my experience with the live coverage had been good.

However, recently I couldn't login to my account, and when I finally got in touch with them, they informed me they had cancelled my subscription as they couldn't take payments from my credit card.

After speaking to my bank, who claimed there was no issue with my card, I again contacted avtv about the matter. And am still waiting for a reply. Highly irritating

My experience of watching it through a computer has been very good apart from for one match when I couldn't get the stream and many people were having problems (they refunded me when I wrote to them.) I pay game by game as I don't know when if I'll always be able to watch and what games will be on telly. The one thing that irritates me is how they show replays of actions when the game is still going on. Also, the commentary is more professional than 'our Jack' (although I quite liked him sometimes), but it's not very exciting and I'm not sure why they don't have an ex-player co-commentating. But I'm nitpicking

Had a look on Twitter this morning - there were enough complaints from Saturday to ensure that I won't be buying any matches any time soon.

The front page of the main website is down and is giving an error message but if you go direct to AVTV then you can get to a web page.  I'm still struggling to find the radio link though

AVTV (https://www.avfc.co.uk/AVTV)

edit: Finally got there but it defaulted to the Brentford match and I had to move it along to the current game manually.

The live stream  for the M-Boro game was pretty poor, best described as ´stuttering´. The Web Page looks like it´s been designed by someone who has a bad hangover ,  overly complicated is being nice............Godzvilla!

Hmm - just got billed £13 pounds for AVTV "Live Video (Monthly) - £13 11 May 2018 to 11 Jun 2018"

Isn't this a kind of rip off, as no games are being shown again?

It really is very poor. They have so often not got the sound right for audio only events so I suppose video was always likely not to work. A service not worthy of our football club.
Totally agree, never again , no more money down the AVTV drain.\iN THIS NEW World TECHNO;OGICAL era  ....AVTV ARE STILL CAVE PAINTERS....GODZVILLA1

Agreed. It's 2018 and the feed is average at its very best. I think they know though from an AGM earlier in the year and are looking to improve it. Hopefully it won't be as much of issue next year as we will be in the PL and games/highlights etc will be much more accessible through better providers.

Frustrating that the service has not been up to mark as signed up this season
