Title: Houllier's Pre-Match Press Conference
Post by: eamonn on November 26, 2010, 07:47:44 PM
Just watched it on Pravda, a few interesting observations:

It was the first time I'd heard him mention Fabian Delph. Nothing on when he's due back, none of the clueless journos thought to ask, but he mentioned him being an important player. Good to know. He also mentioned Gary Gardner (the hacks were probably scratching their heads at that name). He has told Gary that he's very excited to see him play as the coaching staff have been raving about him.

Not so positive about Mr Ireland. His attitude is fine apparently, he just needs to give more to the team. ''I am very patient. At some stage there will be a click somewhere'' said Hou. But he also said ''He's just come to the club, whether he wanted to or not I don't know. As a player he's got something special, I like that. His input has got to be better. Next question.''

Finally, reading between the lines, if in clichéd style we're to build the team around one player, under Gerry Who, it will be Marc Albrighton. He's not keen on talking too much about Carew and Ireland but it's very clear how impressed he is with Marco. When talking about our injury crisis, Albrighton is always the first player he mentions. Seems very happy with his ability, attitude and hardwork. Not surprising to anyone who read that nice little interview with Marc in The Sunday Times the other week with their sports editor.

Nowt earth shattering, just some titbits that you mightn't see on SSN or wherever.

Thanks Eamonn.  We really do have some exciting young players and it's cool to hear them being praised by Houllier.   For him to say that he isn't sure if Ireland wanted to move to Villa means that Ireland didn't want to move to Villa and he's off to Fulham where he will hook up with Hughes (did he expect this to occur at B6 perhaps?)

Anyway, buy 'the striker' and we'll be force to be reckoned with under GH.

I'm gutted Marc can't play Wednesday but I bet it's not half as much as he is.

IMO the thing that is missing from irelands game is confidence, we all know what he is capable of, he just needs a goal or to deliver that killer ball but i can not see him doing that while he is with us....shame really

If Houllier has confidence Ireland will come good he should show faith and start him today.

Although I wouldn't.
