Title: Betting
Post by: eric woolban woolban on November 06, 2010, 12:01:47 PM
I remember their used to be a thread on betting, or more to the point the frustration of Barnet equalising in the last minute to scupper your £300 accumulator.

But now I can't find it.

Mods please feel free to sticky and / or move to an ideal area.

Could be a bit of a sacrilegious one to begin with. Villa are 25/1 to be relegated with Ladbrokes.

I'm into the both teams score in a match accumulator bet at the moment. Keeps things going right until the final whistle.

Delfouneso is guaranteed to score today.

I decided to not bet on him doing so today. With my luck on betting he will score today.

I might put an accumulator on tomorrow.

Football league season starts tomorrow so I've laid down a bet.

All to win accumulator:

Burnley @ 19/20,  Middlesbrough @ 11/10, Nottingham Forest @ 7/10, Huddersfield @ 7/10, Sheff Utd @ 8/5,
Sheff Wed @ 19/20, Torquay @ 10/11, Gillingham @ 10/11, Livingston @ 8/13.

Also each week I will be picking these teams to score and concede in their match:

Spurs, Leeds, Brighton, Orient, Crewe and Mansfield.

With reserve teams of Watford, Rotherham and Kiddeminster if the above teams are unavailable.

And lastly each week, weather permitting, with Scot Div 3 I'm going to go for HOME HOME DRAW AWAY HOME in an accumulator.

That bet will pay £250.00 this week.
Title: Re: Betting
Post by: eric woolban woolban on August 27, 2011, 08:22:50 PM
Close today on a £2.00 accumulator:

    * Chelsea @ 1/6
    * Liverpool @ 2/5
    * Sheff Wed @ 5/6
    * MK Dons @ 10/11
    * Shrewsbury @ 5/4
    * Dag & Red @ 6/5
    * Accrington @ 6/5
    * Telford @ 7/4

Dag & Redbridge drew, meaning I missed out on £340 for a £2.00 stake.

Inspired by Brice Jovial scoring the other night I've had a bet.

A mammoth £1 on Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U, West Ham, Huddersfield, Orient, MK Dons, Wednesday, Crawley and Rangers to win at 153 to 1.

As usual, I've bet on all the scummy teams so I won't be too upset if I lose.

Last weekend I was so close to putting William Hill out of business :O)

I got 15 / 16 teams to win - with Reading letting me down. That was about £200

I got 10 / 12 teams to win - Reading (grr) and West Ham let me down. That was about £4k as it involved a 'two from each section bet'.

On both teams to score I placed ten games, and Bristol City not scoring let me down. That was about £225

And on another both teams  to score bet I picked 12 games and Forest Green let me down. That was about £130.

Let's see what this weekend brings...

Well. I had a right result yesterday. I fancied Europe to win yesterday morning. I logged into my William Hill account to place a bet only to discover just 45p in the account. Minimum deposit is a tenner, so that's what i did. £5 at 7/1 for Europe to win.

This left me with £5.45. Okay, i'll do a cheeky each way Yankee i thought. Placed a £0.24 e/w Yankee. 4 horses, 15/2, 28/1, 25/1 and 8/1. Total stake £5.28

3 winners. The 28/1 shot came nowhere. Total returns....£623.18

Dosen't bear thinking about but had the 28/1 shot won too, the return would have been £18606.75 Gulp!

They lost a stack of money on that promotion last year, but it brings punters to the site, so it lives on.

I use the one on Paddy Power I am surprised they keep it going I have won about 4 or 5 times already this season.  I only ever do six games and there are quite a few teams you can usually rely on who score goals and concede, Leeds and Hartlepool are usually good picks.  The premiership games often have both teams scoring as well.

I was looking at the relegation odds today, all the bookies have Wigan as favourites which is fine in my book.  What I can't understand is Newcastle are at 10/1 whereas we are 2/1, when we win Monday night should I expect to see Newcastle's odds shortening or is our goal difference still worth so much to the bookies?  I might have a cheeky punt on Newcastle for the drop in any case, 10/1 is very tempting.

I don't really gamble myself, but in the last few weeks I've been picking 6 matches for a mate's accumulator. The first week one result went wrong and last week 4 were correct but the other 2 drew.

This week I've picked:-

Palace to beat Villa (we never win there, ever)
Bolton to beat Barnsley (Bolton on a good run at the moment)
MK Dons to beat Crawley (MK a decent side and Crawley are on a dreadful run at the moment)
Fleetwood to beat Morecambe (this should be a home banker, but the fact it's a local derby does put me off a bit)
Cambridge Utd to beat Hyde (Cambridge 2nd in the table and Hyde have won once all season)
East Stirling to lose to Annan Athletic (East Stirling have lost about their last 4 and Annan have been good for the last 3-4 games)

Probably too soon for odds if it is a bog standard race. Best bet might be a bookie who gives first show price of the day or take a chance on the starting price. Whichever Brian thinks best.

He is being shown at 12/1 when I last looked but the trainer says we might get 5/1 when the bookies open for business on Wednesday morning. He will probably attract a lot of attention when a hard look is taken at the form.   If he was a better quality horse I would be backing him with more confidence.   Lower grade horses tend to have off days pretty frequently.

I've had this mad experiment going on for the last 6 months (started during the World Cup) in which with a live match I bet on the time of the first/next goal for either team.

For example on Bet365 they'll offer say 14/1 for either team to score before say 60 minute market when the time is something like 55.12.

Think about it for a second a goal is just as likely to be scored in the 56-60th as between minutes 51-55.

For a glorious two week period late last year I made about 2.5k from quite a few high scoring matches....but equally I've lost a fair bit on a couple of weekends when some of the live games I bet on all magically end 0-0 or 1-0...and I don't cover myself by betting on 0-0 as insurance.

In principle it's a method that should work consistantly but really it's choosing the luck of a game. For example I was cursing watching the Spurs 5-2 Chelsea game at a pub on NYD as a few of those goals were scored towards the end of 10 minute periods. Likewise at the weekend Arsenal scored a couple of goals against us in that time range.

A more simpler method I like to do is always with 10 minutes left bet on the last goal being a free kick or Penalty. That's always around 25/1 or 33/1 for a free kick so worth sticking a fiver on as you never know when one team is losing and are sticking the ball into the box at every opportunity.

Anyone other any wierd/random betting formulas? Like betting on us to win a game for example?!

I knew a bloke who monitored the Rangers and Celtic results over a season with a view to backing them every week and staying clear when they played each other. He worked out that betting £500 on Rangers at 2/5 and £400 on Celtic at 1/4 for example would give him a £300 profit. It was the season Rangers pipped MON's Celtic on goal difference on the last day. He would have won a few grand over the course of the season. The following season he backed up his tried and tested theory with cold hard cash. One of them won the league by a distance but the other dropped loads of points which given his relatively small profit margins gave a very different end of season picture. The best laid plans and all that.

To those of you, like me who lost money on Happy Jack, I apologise.   Young Jackie was a good call glasses, well spotted.
For the record Happy Jack came back a very sick horse and we had the vet with him a long time the day after the race.   He has got ulcers in his stomach and for a couple of days we thought he might have to be put down but he is recovering well.   I will keep you posted if he runs again.

Most bookies have us around evens to stay up and 14s to win the cup so 29/1 is about right.

Run of losing bets going back weeks, including Blues losing me 60 quid a couple of weeks ago by scoring twice in injury time.

Tonight, winning 4-fold on the cards, just needing Russia to win for a 40 quid payout. Russia get a penalty with 23 minutes to go to take the lead... what happens? That's right, crowd trouble, match abandoned.

Someone is trying to teach me gambling is bad, aren't they?

Bet365. You can probably get better odds if you shop around but I have money in an account with them and couldn't be arsed to piss about depositing a quid elsewhere.

As I expected Happy Jack managed to find one too good for him. The trainer and other observers commented that he had no luck in running but I made my view clear that the jockey left the horse far too much to do.  You try to get through a wall of horses in the last half furlong and you are asking for trouble.

Bet 365 are doing their risk free in play bet tonight on PSG v Chelsea. I've got a few quid from these but am just wondering the best deal with this fixture.

I think £50 on PSG draw no bet @ 2/9 and then inplay Chelsea draw no bet @3/1 would give profit of £11 if PSG win, £100 if Chelsea win and money back on draw.

Alternatively PSG win @ 13/8 and then inplay Chelsea or draw @ 13/10 would profit £39 for PSG or £15 any other result.

Obviously there is the third option of bringing in another bookie to lay off bets but I can't think of that yet. Just got to get the calculator out again to go through these as my brain is getting befuddled with all the permutations.

Bet 365 with their risk free in play bets for Arsenal v Barcelona tomorrow. Place a bet pre match then place another in play.

If you bet Under 3.5 goals £50 pre match, then over 3.5 goals after kick off you are guaranteed a £25 win.

U3.5 £50 @ 1/2 pays £75 plus your £50 inplay bet returned.

O3.5 £50 @ 6/4 pays £125.

Both give a profit of £25. I think this is the best way to get the most out of this offer.

Cheltenham brings out the each way better in me, I've had more success with that method than favourites to I shall try again like that.

The New One is a nice price at 7/1, I saw a write up the other day and I feel as though its been talked about as the only real contender to Annie Power. I'm not sure yet although the two I like the look of are My Tent or Yours and Camping Ground - I like the odds on this pair as each way contenders and not as a Go Outdoors connection.

One of Don Poli, Vautour or Djakadam would be my first choices because of the trainer but I don't like the prices - I'll be going for an each way on Holywell - its 50/1 at the moment so I might just take that. I don't normally bother with bets until the day but that seems too good to miss. I could be throwing money down the pan here but its a good horse and a great price.

Bet365 are doing their £50 free bet on England v Russia - any thoughts?

A 'no lose' one would be £50 pre match on over 0.5 goals and £50 inplay England to win at 11/10. A little bet elsewhere to cover the 0-0 at 6/1 would be completely safe but I don't think I'll bother with that.

A bit more daring: Both teams to score pre match 1/1 and England to win.

I think I need to study this...

Haven't checked the details yet but I saw LeoVegas were offering 5/1 on England, max bet a tenner, for new customers.

Could use that then go £50 Russia/Draw pre-match guaranteeing a profit or at least no loss, leaving you free to bet £50 on whatever you liked inplay. I'll study it too when I'm more awake.

Decided to leave the Leovegas offer as I can use the Bet365 offer on this one, I might as well hope that LV put up an offer on a subsequent game that Bet365 aren't covering with their inplay offer later in the tournament.

Gone for the usual £50 on over 0.5 goals with Bet365 and covered no first goalscorer with Coral. I'll put the £50 on something I fancy during the game. Tempted by Russia half-time/England full-time at 28-1. I stand to lose a couple of quid if it doesn't come off but a couple of quid for a £50 bet sounds a good deal to me.

Incidentally, if anyone else plans to do the same... bet on no first goalscorer rather than 0-0. I think this way they still pay out if the only goal in the game is an own goal.

Slovakia at 15/8 seems a very good price.

Wales have played poorly since a couple of very good results against Belgium. This seems to have fooled people into thinking they are suddenly a very good side. Their group consisted of Andorra, Israel, Bosnia and Cyprus and they managed to score just 11 goals in the whole of qualifying.

Since they beat Cyprus last September they have drawn with Israel and NI, lost to Bosnia, Holland, Ukraine and Sweden and only beaten Andorra.

My inplay bet for this was over 1.5 first half goals which was nice but I had the Arse to win so only minor profit. I'm going against covering myself on these and going for glory.

Lat Hawill in the 3.05 at York today. Gotta be worth a couple of quid each way.

The way Warwickshire have been playing I may put all of my potential winnings on Surrey.

EDIT- actually what I may do is have half of my potential winnings on Surrey and then place the rest in bits and bobs throughout the game when the game and odds ebb and flow. Keep it interesting and see how much I come out with.

I thought I'd already put it in here but in a drunken moment of madness just after we had signed Jedinak I put £380 on Villa to win the league at 9s. I tried to put £1000 on but Stan James irregular betting activity kicked in.

Second biggest bet I have ever had.

The biggest? £600 on Adrian Lewis to beat Michael van Gerwen a couple of years ago.

The final score -

van Gerwen 6 Lewis 0.

Don't rule Warwicks out. Played well to beat Somerset in the semis, who had the best record in the comp this year in the group stage.

Remember Small Heath, win the cup as underdogs and go down in the same season..

Liverpool, Villa, MK Dons, Swindon to win their respective leagues. 17,576 to 1

I'm also going to have a Villa win Blues lose double every time they play on the same day.

£9 in my account so had that today 5/1 give or take

About 15 teams were in a better position than Leicester. I really like Klopp and the players evidently want to play for him. If they can keep Coutinho and add a top class centre back they will be up there.

Online bookmakers are becoming a joke now. Went to have £50 on Tiger Roll yesterday at 10/11 with Betway. They declined the bet and said I could have a maximum of £4.75 each way!!!

Now maybe they were terrified of the massive £45 liabiliy, or wary of the fact that I won just over 30 quid on their site at last years Cheltenham festival but it is fucking ludicrous that a bookmaker would do this.

It actually worked out well for me as I ended up not having a bet and Tiger Roll got beat.

Is it just me, or are online betting companies getting ridiculously cautious these days?

I was about 100 quid up on the whole for Cheltenham after an extremely see-saw 4 days betting across numerous sites. On Betway specifically I was around 200 quid up for the festival. I've just gone to have 20 quid each way on a horse priced at 15/2 at Curragh, and they are trying to limit me to 3.75 e/w. I've got the bet on elsewhere, but this is fucking ridiculous. Winning a small amount of money at the Cheltenham festival makes you a professional gambler apparently...
